A little background: I've been living in Thailand for a while, I work in Singapore, I'm married, my wife is Thai, educated and pretty cool. Everytime I've gone to her parents house, I have done my best to speak Thai, to be polite and respect them in every best way I can and know and accept this isnt an easy culture to understand however I treat others with the respect I wish to be treated, this is the way I have been brought up. It started a while back at the family home, words said to me indirectly, such as farang kii nok, and others which I don't know as they have a countryside accent and I cant understand. I used to smile and brush them off, maybe its said in jest? However nowadays I have given all excuses possible not to go the parents home, they make me feel uncomfortable and the wife is always nagging at me to go with her. Maybe its inside my mind and I shouldnt be bothered with silly name calling, or perhaps its racism or perhaps they just don't like me, either way I'd like to know what you guys think.....any experiences with this? Thanks in adv!

I've noticed that most Asians don't have much of one, especially if they're from ambitious urban families, like chinese-thais in bkk or any other asian city... who tend to be profoundly conservative, narrow-minded, and hel_l-bent on climbing the social ladder for the privilege of looking down on those beneath them.
with regard to the above statement, Svenn you couldnt have said it any better, dam_n they are a miserable lot! Your comment mirrors my thoughts exactly! well said!

lol there some bizzare action pics 5555! Do you live in England? I should report you to the RSPCA for illegal animal fighting! lol just kidding, the pics were funny, maybe the lady has a screw loose?

Beer Chang wins Gold? I admit its not a bad beer, but this smells of thai/american backhanders, could It be a little bit of, dare I say, corruption somewhere along the line?! Actually who really cares what the thai/americans think about beer anyway, I believe the Germans should be up in the top five beers. I smell a dodgy deal!

Ive not made any bookings as of yet but have been looking at flights to London this year and the lady called Tanya has been fantastic in getting back to me with emails and quotes. I am very happy with the service so far, speedy and efficient! Keep up the good work Thaivisa travel!

Why is that a friendly warning to fellow TV'ers is often just seen as a target?
I am a fool... but at least I'm man enough to admit it. What kind of idiot are you?
Daren, maybe I was a little harsh with my wording and I didn't mean to offend you, I simply stated 'more fool you', not call you a fool directly, It was intended as a figure of speech. I appreciate that you mentioned JIB here, it is a warning to others and as you say TiT the lack of professional service you have had been unfortuante to receive.

...after going to the Steak house and stealing the ashtrays and cutlery we then thought it would be great fun if Timmy and I perused the local markets for some tshirts and pantaloons, without paying for them! Hahaha Snort what fun we had, until..........

for one its not a cultural problem as you state, perhaps you should practice thai language in school, not whore bars? And you wonder why you have lost her trust? You need to grow up and be a man.

I can't beleive you upgraded and spent even MORE money with them?! More fool you. I would have cancelled the transfer and told them to go <deleted> themselves.
-
go and visit them in Phuket and take them some t-shirts and other goodies if you so wish.

yes you can work remotely within thailand, if or still unsure, solicit the powers of a lawyer, preferably not thai.

the only way to confuse some thai drivers, is to drive properly, they dont have any proper training whatsover. Laugh at my posting, and enjoy the pleasures of seeing the white sheets over the bodies, it wont take you long believe me (check at intersections/junctions) It is not nice, hearing motorcycle fairing against human flesh and bone isnt appealing, especially in bangkok, you will see it countless times if you stay long enough. The bang gives you nightmares, and the idiots still keep on riding..........btw it isnt funny when you see someone dead, check it out, you will do if you stay here long enough.

he knew quite well what he was doing, he hid it in his shoe, I hope he enjoyed smoking some whilst he contemplating the big tiger, what a fool, hang him and spare the drug users who would buy from his dealer...<deleted> deserve all they get, <deleted> criminal cnuts. I wish he would have been caught the thai side, the guy got off easy.

mojaco,
I agree with you, but goodluck trying to tell that to the thais...in fact, invite the president of the USA to Thailand and let him know, I'm sure he would wipe clean the shelfs of thailands dodgy software in one swoop! such is the power of the USA, god bless america!

oh I forgot one annoying factor on the roads:
foreigners riding motorbikes with NO helmet, please dont copy the locals, a helmet saves lifes. The ignorance on thai roads here is astounding. From my observations here in Rayong its mostly older farang guys too, why dont they put a helmet on? Its like 400b to save your brains...
-
lol Maigo! 555
its true!
or better still, make friends with the thai police, donations will be pouring in (or out?)
-
the most annoying behaviour on thai roads? Oh thats easy! heres a few from my own personal observations:
people without licenses
people without helmets
people without proper driving skills
people driving towards me on the wrong side of the road
people driving towards me on the wrong side of the road (at night with no lights)
people driving on the pavement
people waiting on the roundabout for oncoming cars
people who carry their baby on the motorbike
people with dogs on the motorbike
people who fine me for having my lights on
people who think they can fine me for any reason whatsoever and I must respect them
but the most annoying in terms of it being a wasted life:
people on the roads at intersections with white blankets over their dead bodies because they should have learnt proper driving and got a licence and worn their helmet.

yes I know I shouldnt buy dodgy copies but who doesnt right?

Thanks for the tips fellas, like you say I think the way to go is like you say backing up into a drive and encrypting. Do they actually check the suitcases for CD DVDS? I think this would be too time consuming right??? Thanks for the heads up with this! Beardog I will PM you shortly, the software sounds great thanks for your help much appreciated!

Since being in Thailand for the past 3 years I have collected around 20 software discs, all of which are the copies you can buy at tukcom, it square, pantip etc, and I am wondering if these will be looked at on my way out of the airport when I fly back to London? I guess I will pack them so it shouldnt be a problem right? I dont want to get into any trouble so I wonder if anyone can advise that would be great! Anyone been stopped before for having dodgy software on them/packed? If it is going to cause probs I wont bother! yes I know I shouldnt buy dodgy copies but who doesnt right? (strange post I know but I expect MANY people enjoy shopping for software here in Thailand!) Thanks!

Naam, thanks for the link, I'm not really sure what to make of it, but perhaps It makes a little more sense to me so thank you I appreciate it. The best thing for me would be to study thai to a level in which I can question these things, which isnt going to happen, so therefore perhaps a mai bpen rai would be more suitable, as for my wife, I love her so much, they can call me whatever they may wish. Sticks and stones.
