  1. First off sorry if this topic is covered elsewhere, but I have not found it.

I have a farang friend who may be in need of some sheltered type accommodation, primarily to see that they eat properly and generally take care of themselves.

They are on a lot of medication as a result of a recent operation, and fall asleep at the drop of a hat, or can go all night without sleeping due to the pain involved.

Alternatively some sort of home help, live in is probably best, as things may need sorting out during the night.

Any serious suggestions are welcome please.

    Many thanks

  2. Is this a good time to move sterling or USD to Thailand? Any thoughts? Does anyone have any insight into the state of the banks here, given the corruption in every walk of life, there seems no reason to suspect that the banks have hidden debts and fraud. I have money in the banks here in bonds.....I read somewhere that in 2015 the bank insurance per account is being reduced dramatically to only one million baht per account....so if you have 10 million in an bond account and the bank goes bust, you lose 9 million baht. Anyone (knowledgeable) have thoughts on this?

I think this is a very "dangerous" time to move more money to Thailand than you are prepared to lose.

I say this for reasons that cannot be disgust, and the turmoil that will erupt at that time.

  3. I have had quite a bit of tile laid in Thailand and have never seen tile spacers used. We have been happy with the results.

In my place the tiles have been laid too close together restricting the space available for grouting to take hold, I figured tile spacers would be the way to go?

  4. Hi all,

I want to lay ceramic tiles over existing grotty brown ceramic floor tiles and am looking for a "proper" tiler (like one who uses tile spacers!!) who would know how to do this, does anybody have any actual experience of such a person please?

    Thanks,

    Dave

  5. In the small village that i live in; Ban Sentor near to Hang Dong, Chiang Mai; they introduced a rubbish collections service about a year ago.

Rubbish bags are bought from Number 1 for 10 baht each and have an official looking stamp on them.

These bags are then collected from the "main" road twice a week.

It is really heartening to see the take up of this service, even the little-lean to shanties sport their official rubbish bag, it is almost a "face" thing to have one.

I have even seen locals take an unofficial bag and cram it into an official one in case it gets shunned by the collectors.

We also have a re-cycle place that takes all the glass, tins, metal, cardboard etc and we normally get about 100 baht a fortnight for what we take, yes I know, another Cheap Charlie.

As the Old Lady said when she peed in the sea, "every little helps"
