  1. The Military and their cronies robbed the country blind over the last year and a half.

Care to substantiate that claim? Unless i've missed it, there's no evidence to suggest that anyone involved with the coup suddenly became unusually rich after it was staged.

On the other hand, the evidence against Thaksin is as plain as the nose on your face. Not even the Thaksin fanaticals i think would deny that he abused his power for personal gain. Or are there people out there who are really that blind?

To answer my own question, i fear sadly yes.

  2. I can’t believe people fall for that !!!

First clue : It’s from The Nation.

Then how come a student able to write such a well argumented plea needs to resort to cheating to pass an exam?

Then the reference to “the son of someone I can’t remember the name” Wouldn’t it be Mr Thaksin? It’s the Nation after all, beside trash talk about Mr Thaksin, they haven’t much to say.

Then the final paragraph : "Now I am sitting in front of you, it's hard to say if I am repentant. Perhaps it was just unlucky that I was caught red-handed. If only, if only, I could have got away with it. I simply hope that my family is powerful enough to stop the current staff who are investigating the case. And then they install a new group of teachers who will be more easily convinced that the cheating never happened."

Forget the son, that’s daddy they’re after.

And it works, this thread turns to Thaksin bashing as usual.

  3. 100% agree with sunrise07

Both USA and France currently have very controversial leaders but if someone in the opposion suggests staging a coup against the current president, he will have a 100% unanimity .... against him !!!

  4. So there are good news, when one looks for them.

    From BBC International :

Viktor Bout - who has been dubbed the "merchant of death" - was picked up by police at a luxury hotel in Bangkok.

Thai police acted on a warrant issued by the US, which accuses Mr Bout of supplying arms to Colombian rebels.

He has also been accused of breaking UN embargoes on arms sales to many countries from central Asia to Africa but has never been prosecuted.

Mr Bout, 41, is said to have graduated from Moscow's military institute in the early 1990s. According to a 2007 book about him - entitled Merchant of Death - Money, Guns, Planes and the Man Who Makes War Possible - he set up a network of companies using redundant Soviet military planes.

  5. I meant everything I wrote. If it was against forum rules, I'm sure I would have already been informed by a person in charge, one of them you are not I believe.

Regarding who is of good faith and who is of bad faith, people are free to make their own mind.

    No further comments.

  6. I believe the reference to the Philippines was a reference to the People Power movement, a "popular" uprising who topple some incompetent dictators to replace them with even more corrupted and incompetent leaders. And when they had the chance to find someone (Ramos) who seems to be efficient and leading the country the right way, they "democratically" asked him to leave. I hope people will understand Philippines is the right example of what NOT to do.

On the other hand, I completely support Thaksin's links with Singapore, China, HK and Japan. For the record, Singapore has recently been voted the favorite Asian destination for expats.

To SJ : My original intention was to ask for the publishing of more positive news (people happy of the current situation Vs the always unsatisfied) in order to promote more positive views of Thailand and less arguing. But reading the headlines regarding the revival of the PAD made me really angry, therefore the unintended aggressive tone of my posts. Unintentionally, my posts were actually a case in point …

More disturbing was your opinion that TV caters mostly to people supporting a military junta and opposing the war against drugs. I had to check twice that I didn't type by mistake "BurmaVisa" in the address bar…

PS : Don't expect from me less bad faith than from people supporting the other side.

  7. It is an understatement to say that Thaksin understands modern business to a great degree.

Who are Thaksin major (personnal) trade partners in Asia :Singapore, Hong Kong, Japan and China

What was the country most cited as an example by the opposition prior to the coup ? The Philippines!!

Pretty scary is you are business oriented. Or just worry about the future of your country ...

    edited for some typing errors

  8. Agree, one can argue that what the business world hates more is political instability which as moment is created as much by Thaksin return than by PAD activities.

I was just complaining that not enough forum space is given to people who support the PPP and Thaksin and about the too complacent tone to describe the anti democratic activities of the PAD. As I said, a democratic debate is when all voices are heard.

  9. In my previous post I noted it would be very hard to get rid of the middle man, others have indicated this also. To export, grains, must meet a mositure content and fumigation guideline, as well as total weight, test weight, % foreign material, cracked grains etc. These guidelines can change from one country to another and normally a shipment is inspected at both ends. If either end deems any one guideline not being met, at the least the price is compromised or it be sent back to the shipper (not prepaid either). I am not trying to rain on a parade, but most packages of special farm items, organic, etc are repackaged by some distributor who has a lot of experienc and contacts in the field. I would be most interested to hear of any individual who has been successful in this type of venture.

I'm sure some readers of this forum know some of those distributors. Why not invite them to give their comments and advises on this forum. It would be interesting for those of us who planned to start some farming activities for a leaving, and for the other ones too.

  10. Business approval (Fm Bangkok Post, today March 5, 2008)

Early reaction from top business executives to the government's new economic stimulus package is in. Basically, they love it but note that the baht is a little flaky and political stability is uncertain.

Paiboon Nalintarangkul, executive chairman of Tisco Securities Plc, said the economic stimulus scheme issued on Tuesday, if implemented efficiently, would benefit the Thai economy.

Should the government be able to maintain political stability and the interest rate decline, he said, it would make the economy grow 4.5-to-5 per cent this year ...

Despite some bold titles, not everybody has problem with the new government, far from it. Some objectivity would be greatly appreciated. A democratic debate is when all voices are heard.

  11. But did you know that the man was also a poet (courtesy to dear Ozzy)

Times have changed and times are strange

Here I come, but I aint the same

    Thailand, I'm coming home

Times gone by seem to be

You could have been a better friend to me

    Thailand, I'm coming home

You took me in and you drove me out

    Yeah, you had me hypnotized

Lost and found and turned aroound

By the fire in your eyes

You made me cry, you told me lies

But I cant stand to say goodbye

    Thailand, I'm coming home

I could be right, I could be wrong

Hurts so bad, its been so long

    Thailand, I'm coming home !

  12. I heard Mr T. still has some doubts about what to do, here is the message (thanks to The Clash):

Thailand you got to let me know

Should I stay or should I go?

If you say that you are mine

I’ll be here ’til the end of time

So you got to let me know

Should I stay or should I go?

If I go there will be trouble

An’ if I stay it will be double

So come on and let me know!

Should I stay or should I go?

  13. I'm sure most of you have heard the good news and I was thinking of a welcoming song, and what best that this song from Eurythmics, "It's alright, baby's coming back"

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m-MPiBYKcz8

And the lyrics are fantastics :

    It's alright - Thaksin's coming back

    And I don't really care where he's

    been.

    It's alright - Thaksin's coming back

And I won't turn him around this time.

Pls forward to the welcome comitee, it would be fantastic to have the crowd sings that song when he will eventually be back home!!!

  14. I found it. The orginal thread was posted in Thailand Forum > Community Forums > Family and children, that why I posted my question in the "General" forum. Maybe lavender is more a woman affair, it's true the question actually originated from my wife. Anyway, I'll try to contact the ladies who posted in this forum, if they are still around. In the mean time, if anybody has any information regarding the subject ... they are most welcome !

  15. It seems to me the question can be resumed as why men need so many partners when women seem to be happy with only one. Once again the answer should be found in ancien chinese wisdom : "Have you ever seen a tea set with one cup and six pots" Whatever that means...

  16. You still doing the motocross?

    + 20 years + 20 Kgs = no more motocross, unfortunately.

Btw, thanks everybody for replying my question regarding the use of bleach as disinfectant.

If one day you are in the ER and you hear nurse mr_hippo and nurse gunnyd arguing, you know for sure that you're going to die before anybody pay attention to you !!

  17. One thing I never see mentionned is for the wedding the guest are supposed not to offer gifts but to bring "envelopes" containing money that is usually used to pay for the wedding reception. You can then negociate that all the Sin Sod money will be returned to you but you pay for the reception and the family keep the "gifts" from the guest. If the bride come from a good family, it can amount for a couple of hundred thousands.

I chose to pay for the reception, my bils (both Thai) chose the Sin Sod, only half returned. At the end I made the calculation, the parents get about the same from everybody and everybody save face, everybody happy.

  18. I read from a thread dated from 2006 (can't find it again) that some people planned to grow lavender in Thailand but they have some doubt if it was possible, too much humidity if I remember well. Are these people still around and were they successful ?

  19. It doesn't beat the trick used by mainland chineses. First a young kid walk in front of you, as a foreigner you're not supposed to know this trick and just assume that he is with the people queuing before you. Then the all family joins and you're f...d ! In China it's no use to shout at them, the only way is to walk in front of them and let the people behind deal with them.

  20. As a teenager, I used to practise motocross and was a very frequent visitor to the local hospital, every month or so and usually for a couple of stiches, but I don't remember ever been prescribed antibiotics. But it's not my question. As a kid I had a very bad bike accident and a deep infected wound on my elbow. There was no hospital nearby and I was not about to die, so we had to do my grand mother recipee : bleach and boiling water, as hot as I can take and until the water get cold, repeat 3 times daily. It worked. Later a friend of mine, doctor in the army, confirmed it was an efficient cure for this kind of wound.

Now what I would like to know, in an emergency situation, can we use bleach from the shell of any convenience store? Or are they now so full of other chemicals (???) that it's better to look for more conventional medicine ?
