Assuming your Non O visa is based on a Thai spouse or child, you can apply for a 60-day extension of stay. Your Thai family member must usually accompany you when you apply for the extension. A one-year extension of your permission to stay may be possible if you can meet the requirements.

A Non-O based on marriage should not incur visa runs but only 90 days checks, I believe.

Smartphones will be provided by Immigration    ????

I can see that line at immigration backed up to the gates.

  3. Thais got use to the high season, low season thing and it's spoiled them. There hasn't been a real high season in probably 20 years. The Thais go use to jacking prices up for high season and now it's the norm. There is no high season. It has been and always will be fleece the tourist...regardless of where you are from. The Thais job is to extract every possible baht from your wallet and do so with a smile on their face. Our job as foreigners is to mitigate that loss as much as possible and all while having a smile on our faces.

If every westerner and like company were to fold up their respective tents and leave tomorrow, the day after Thailand would be right back where it was 70 years ago. We'd be gone, the Thais would be happy.

  4. My usual breeze through immigration for Visa renewal was not smooth this time. Having been unable to  obtain an income letter from my embassy (yes, one of the few who is abandoning its citizenry here) I had to be sure I was getting proper amount transferred in each month.

Not to make this any longer than needed, I was close on one of my transfers. When I processed through immigration on Thursday I was told not enough for March. I argued my case to the supervisor who advised I go to BKK Bank, Silom to get transfers verified. Once I got that letter I was to return. If the letters showed I had 2 months funds brought in I would be OK.

The bank cannot/would not do same day letter so next morning I went back and got the letter. All was good. Then I noticed the "error"...The officer at immigration was not counting my full transfer. She was noting my transfer AFTER the bank took its cut which put me under for that month.

I returned to immigration Friday morning armed with the letter and my newly discovered information. Fortunately, the letter was fine and I did not need to "show them the error of their ways." When processing the visa renewal I was asked to fill out 3 additional forms having to deal with where I live, how long I have lived there and also one advising of the rules. I was also required to draw a map to where I live.

In the final analysis Thursday was jumping through all the hoops and Friday was proving I had indeed done so.

  5. I was living on the dark side when the city finally decided to put lights in at the rail crossings. Great idea, wonderful way to save lives...last about a week. Last time I was down that way I drove the road to see how it was...it wan't nice.

The lights work but only when you get a professional traffic engineer to time them.

  6. I see both sides of this equally well. I am one who does require the assist and am damn glad it's available. I have no qualms giving over a 100 baht (or more as case determines) for the poor Thai that has to  push me through the airport. The reason you will see an "entourage" is the airline desire to board all in the party together. I can get along fine for short distances but due to  a heart condition cannot go the long trek through Swampy and other IAP like HKG, NRT or ICN. Yes, I have seen it abused too but I'd like to think the number abusing the option is small.

Admit it, you had a major issue dealing with having a black president who has more class in his little finger than trash talking low life Trump could ever dream of.

Color of his skin has nothing to do with it. He was an incompetent POTUS. Class? He has no class either but you please carry on without me as I refuse to have a battle of wits with an unarmed man.
