  1. Lets hope there are no casualties, or injured people to be counted for.

Its usualy the vunarable who get caught in construction disasters.

    fingers crossed!

The sad thing is that electrical was mentioned and these sites are notorious for tapping in to the power lines for the free stolen electric service. The people doing this are more than likely not certified electricians....let's hope no injuries or fatalities.

  2. Thanks for the above answers but it still begs more questions.

Let's say my daughter gets both Thai and US passports. Flies to US and enters with US passport and then departs for return to Thailand with Thai passport. So far, so good.

But, the next trip to America she arrives with US passport and US Immigration asks when she departed America from the first trip since it is not indicated in her US passport because she traveled on Thai passport and if she manages to sweet talk her way onboard what happens when she arrives in Thailand and is asked basically the same question - When did you depart Thailand since it is not indicated in her Thai passport?

Always enter and depart on the passport for the appropriate country. Leave Thailand show Thai passport. Arrive US and show US passport. Leave US show US passport, arrive Thailand show Thai passport.

    OB

And what doe you say when immigration asks where your departure stamp is located. Your safest bet is to contact Thai immigration.

  3. They have a VOA now per se but it's a joke. You have to apply on line, get your letters (needed to board the plane from BKK) then when you get to VN you get to stand in line for up to an hour waiting for them to rake in $45 USD (in USD only) to place the stamp in your passport so you can proceed to immigration. If you pay for the expedited service is still about 20 minutes but you get to relax while someone runs it all for you. Application fee, Stamping fee and Expedited service is $75-$90 USD depending on the site you choose.

  4. Did Kristie Kenney move up or down?

She's still in the State Department, but working in D.C. Her main qualification for diplomatic appointment has been her marriage to Bill Brownfield, who is in the State Department's South American narcotics bureau. Ms. Kenney's current post is Deputy Assistant Secretary for Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs for East Asia. I don't know if that is a step up or a step down. It's possible she will no longer be considered for assignments abroad, because there was quite a public backlash on her propensity for posting twitter selfies, deemed inappropriate for a career foreign diplomat.

It would be considered a lateral move. Glad the new choice is actually qualified for the job.

  5. Is Thailand doomed? Perhaps but it will not be due to the Ex-Pat. We could all pack up our tents and leave and Thailand would revert to where it was 60 years ago. Yes, Education sucks it needs to be reformed but until it is there will be a steady stream of another generation of taxi drivers, factory workers, street vendors and sex workers. Does the exchange rate suck? Sure it does but my money still goes further here than back home. Now, Thai drivers are some of the worst I have ever encountered but they are the most loving, gentle people in the world...until they get behind the wheel of a car and you are in their way. Hate is too strong a word and is hardly accurate.

  6. Is it possible to get a new car / pickup for around 600 - 700,000?

I know that's not much, but don't spend a lot of time in Thailand at the moment and my missus destroys vehicles.......

Yes, You can get a decent new car or pick up for that money with a fair amount of extras. Buy new if you can, there is a lot of crap out there "Pre-owned". For what they charge for used vehicles, a hundred thousand more can buy you a new vehicle.

  7. To take this reporting thread in a different direction...the new on line 90 days reporting site seems to be up and working to a point. My application has been in pending for 10 days and am officially due today. Should I drive out tomorrow or jsut bide my time and see what happens? I don't need another B2000 dent in my wallet///

  8. In reality in many areas if you want to get somewhere by foot then walking in the road is the only viable option. Moving vendors to side streets seems a sensible option as people who want to shop can go there and leave the pavements for the purpose intended. The authorities should also clamp down on motor cycles who increasingly use pavements to avoid traffic.

A perfect example s Soi 11. You might get around the corner on the sidewalk/foot path but very quickly you are in the street until you get where you need to go.

  9. I have been here since 2005 so I am right at the 10 year point. My purchasing power has declined by roughly 30% since 2005 with the Baht being artificially inflated and the costs of goods and services going up. As an example the 30 Baht bowl of soup at the street vendor went up 33% overnight when the announcement of the new minimum wage of B300 per day. My wife asked and was told you got a pay raise, you can afford it.....

IMO the Baht should be at 37-40 to $1 USD to be where it should be.

  10. And thats the question... Cannot in HK. And according to the lawyer cannot in Thailand either since never married.

I was previously married to a Filipina. I could not get a divorce in Thailand although legally married, since Thai law recognizes marriages from other countries and its law. The Philippines does not recognize divorce and Thailand will not grant one even though I live here. As an American I had to go to Guam to obtain my divorce.

  11. I'm not in Thailand at the moment so unfortunately cannot help. I am A negative though and was wondering where the best place to donate is when I'm next over?

Best of luck to Mr Farnham

Sent from my C5303 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

PLEASE MAKE YOUR BLOOD DONATION AT THE RED CROSS NATIONAL BLOOD CENTER ON HENRI DUNANT

    Thank you!

  12. I'm A, but I can't remember if pos or neg and my blood donor card is back in my home country.

But, I'm under 55, so I'm ineligible regardless? I don't understand that rule.

Rules for donating blood in NZ include ineligibility if you have slept with a prostitute in the last 6 months, had a tattoo in the last 6 months, or been in the UK in the last 12 years, but they don't ask that you be over a certain age.

    (Over 18, of course).

Your donation location will type for you and advise if you donate...thank you!

  13. Thank you all for your willingness to assist.

The age 55 thing is totally confusing to me but as I understand it IF IF IF you have donated before age 55 HERE IN THAILAND, you are still elgible to donate. Once you reach 70 they will take your donation regardless of circumstances.

According to the MDs, we can only accept A Neg blood and that others will not work. I can't say why as I am not a doctor.

People in other locales like the gentleman in Sukhothai...There should be a donation location in every province BUT this is Thailand. Please check with a hospital in your area. Thank you, Kelvin.

Thank you again to all for your willingness to help. It is greatly appreciated.

  14. Admin if this is in the wrong place please move...

    THIS IS A HUMANITARIAN REQUEST.

THERE IS AN URGENT NEED FOR BLOOD TYPE A NEG. AN AMERICAN IS IN THE HOSPITAL REQUIRING HEART SURGERY AND IT CANNOT BE PERFORMED UNTIL AN ADEQUATE BACK UP SUPPLY OF A NEG IS ON HAND. DUE TO RED CROSS REGULATIONS IF YOU HAVE NOT DONATED IN THAILAND BEFORE YOUR 55TH BIRTHDAY, YOU ARE INELIGLBLE TO DONATE IN THIS MATTER. SO I AM ASKING THAT ANYONE WHO HAS A NEG BLOOD TYPE TO PLEASE CONSIDER MAKING A DONATION TO HELP SAVE THIS MAN.

PLEASE MAKE YOUR BLOOD DONATION AT THE RED CROSS NATIONAL BLOOD CENTER ON HENRI DUNANT IN THE NAME OF KURT R FARNHAM AT PRARAM 9 HOSPITAL. THAT WAY YOUR DONATION CAN BE EARMARKED FOR HIM.

I apologize for all the caps and apparent shouting.

    Jim
