  1. You have to understand that Thais are the most loving caring people in the world until they get behind the wheel of a car and YOU are in their way. Then all bets are off. Aside from getting T-Boned They like to sit and admire the color and decide if it really is green of if the traffic cops are just toying with their emotions to go ahead and proceed.

  2. A dietary portion of rice is surprisingly the same size as an old fashioned computer mouse. That said, even I eat more than that and my wife has me "rationed" at home. I have not experienced the skimpy portions you describe but not saying it doesn't happen.

  3. "If we believe their purpose in coming to Thailand is not what they say it is, then we will order them to leave and they will be blacklisted. They will not be able to return to Thailand, ever."

So, if some guard at an immigration post has a bad day or just doesn't like your looks, he can at his discretion bar you from Thailand forever, because your story wasn't convincing enough for him. The possibilities for additional payoffs are infinite, I suppose.

It was ever thus.. The immigration officer has always had the exclusive right to determine if you should be let in or not.

As is so with ANY country, a visa is NOT a guarantee of entry. It is merely a document that will allow you to move freely if granted entry.

  4. Dear OP... how many hours of classes per day does a student need to attend at one of your esteemed learning institutions to qualify for an Education Visa?

And at what percentage level of absenteeism do you report the students to immigration to protect the genuine learners from the side-effects of those nefarious individuals who didn't really come to Thailand just to study Thai language?

The ED visa applicant will find out just how many hours it takes when they show up for a visa renewal and cannot converse with the immigration officer in simple Thai...and gets ordered to leave.

  5. I apologize for intruding on your question but the FBar issue has always puzzled me. For example:

United States persons are required to file an FBAR if:

    1. The United States person had a financial interest in or signature authority over at least one financial account located outside of the United States; and
    2. The aggregate value of all foreign financial accounts exceeded $10,000 at any time during the calendar year to be reported.

I have a pension and SS income that is direct deposited into a US bank account. All money is taxed before deposit. I use TaxAct for income tax filing.I then wire transfer every month to my Thai bank accounts. There is never more than 90,000 thb in the Thai banks per month but through the year it obviously adds up to over $10,000 US. The word "aggregate" in the above statement is what confuses me. Does that mean $10,000 US at one time in the bank or do I still have to do an FBar because the money is spread throughout the year?

    Thanks for any help.

If your deposits in any Thai bank Exceeds $10,000.00 during the year, it must be reported. Using your example of B90,000, that I approximately $3000USD. You would exceed the threshold in April of the year.

  6. He is totally wrong. it's not lack of responsibility from the drivers. It's lack of responsibility from the government and the traffic authorities, as the police.

There is a lot of honesty there but the main cause purely lies with the government. Not just a lack of responsibility but also lack of any credible driver training and education. It is commonplace to see Thai drivers commandere one of the on coming lanes of traffic in many areas to "get an edge" in the traffic lanes. Some guy started screaming at me one morning that I was in his lane and to move. I said, what side of the yellow line are you on? He would not admit he was wrong and kept screaming. You cannot fix stupid. The only way you will remedy the situation is to make auto fines more harsh and lock people up for serious infractions and seize vehicles if necessary.

    Why won't this happen? $$$$$$

  7. Weigh the costs of doing the divorce in Canada v. the cost of a plane ticket to CNX, a couple of nights in a hotel and a trip to the amphur to sign on the line to end the marriage. It may be cheaper to fly here and do it. At the same time gives your new husband to be a look at a beautiful place in the world.

  8. Probability of them being used is low. Continental Trailways in the US installed them on about a dozen buses in the late 1960's or early 1970's (sorry, I forget the exact time) to see how many people used them - drivers were instructed to inform passengers about their use. However, after a long period of time, it was found that most seatbelts were just pushed aside and/or stuffed into the spaces between seats by the passengers so they could sit more comfortably. But that was also before the seatbelts were upgraded to their present usability, with spring loaded retractors to keep them out of the way when not in use as they have today.

The equipping of and use is mandatory in buses in South Korea.
