Once in awhile I will shut it down like if I am going out of the country and when my computer screams I'm using too much memory. Otherwise, on 24/7.

You have to understand that Thais are the most loving caring people in the world until they get behind the wheel of a car and YOU are in their way. Then all bets are off. Aside from getting T-Boned They like to sit and admire the color and decide if it really is green of if the traffic cops are just toying with their emotions to go ahead and proceed.

A dietary portion of rice is surprisingly the same size as an old fashioned computer mouse. That said, even I eat more than that and my wife has me "rationed" at home. I have not experienced the skimpy portions you describe but not saying it doesn't happen.

"If we believe their purpose in coming to Thailand is not what they say it is, then we will order them to leave and they will be blacklisted. They will not be able to return to Thailand, ever."
So, if some guard at an immigration post has a bad day or just doesn't like your looks, he can at his discretion bar you from Thailand forever, because your story wasn't convincing enough for him. The possibilities for additional payoffs are infinite, I suppose.
It was ever thus.. The immigration officer has always had the exclusive right to determine if you should be let in or not.
As is so with ANY country, a visa is NOT a guarantee of entry. It is merely a document that will allow you to move freely if granted entry.

Well let's see just how many pissed off border runners end up having to make their way to Phnom Penh, Ventiane, Yangon and Penang or KL from the land border crossing point.

Positively SPOT ON! I had a friend die last year from jerks throwing ice water. She died taking evasive action and was hit by a pick up. I'm getting out of town again this year.

Dear OP... how many hours of classes per day does a student need to attend at one of your esteemed learning institutions to qualify for an Education Visa?
And at what percentage level of absenteeism do you report the students to immigration to protect the genuine learners from the side-effects of those nefarious individuals who didn't really come to Thailand just to study Thai language?
The ED visa applicant will find out just how many hours it takes when they show up for a visa renewal and cannot converse with the immigration officer in simple Thai...and gets ordered to leave.

Let me be totally and brutally honest. BIG F***ING DEAL! If you want to come to Thailand and live, you play by the rules - THEIR RULES and live with it or get out. What would you say if someone came to your country and tried the same shit?I'm conflicted on the issue.
On one hand, I agree that people gaming the system hurts genuine students who wish to study.
On the other, there is a severe predicament for many people who are not of retirement age, nor work for a company inside Thaland. The labour laws are antiquated and many 'fake students' would love nothing more than to have a legitimate visa and pay taxes to Thailand.

Moon Muang Soi 1 has a few bars that are ex-pat hangouts. Nothing fancy. Kind of like a neighborhood bar.

Glad it ends well....common sense prevails.
Only after the voting populace and others reminded them of the error of their ways....politicians never act, they react.

"We suspect the bus driver fell asleep,"
Ya think? Every day its the same shit, drunk, tired, hopped up on M-150, lack of training and experience....
Since there are no liability laws in place...with any teeth, nothing is about to change. RIP and condolences to the families.

Well Played, Thailand! IF and I said IF you were to go and place just a single annual tax on all street vendors to hawk their goods they would more than make up for any deficeit graft, I mean spending. That would also include enforcing the tax they...........oh, <deleted>, they will never learn that graft is too ingrained in the society you will never be rid of it.

I apologize for intruding on your question but the FBar issue has always puzzled me. For example:
United States persons are required to file an FBAR if:
- The United States person had a financial interest in or signature authority over at least one financial account located outside of the United States; and
- The aggregate value of all foreign financial accounts exceeded $10,000 at any time during the calendar year to be reported.
I have a pension and SS income that is direct deposited into a US bank account. All money is taxed before deposit. I use TaxAct for income tax filing.I then wire transfer every month to my Thai bank accounts. There is never more than 90,000 thb in the Thai banks per month but through the year it obviously adds up to over $10,000 US. The word "aggregate" in the above statement is what confuses me. Does that mean $10,000 US at one time in the bank or do I still have to do an FBar because the money is spread throughout the year?
Thanks for any help.
If your deposits in any Thai bank Exceeds $10,000.00 during the year, it must be reported. Using your example of B90,000, that I approximately $3000USD. You would exceed the threshold in April of the year.

He is totally wrong. it's not lack of responsibility from the drivers. It's lack of responsibility from the government and the traffic authorities, as the police.
There is a lot of honesty there but the main cause purely lies with the government. Not just a lack of responsibility but also lack of any credible driver training and education. It is commonplace to see Thai drivers commandere one of the on coming lanes of traffic in many areas to "get an edge" in the traffic lanes. Some guy started screaming at me one morning that I was in his lane and to move. I said, what side of the yellow line are you on? He would not admit he was wrong and kept screaming. You cannot fix stupid. The only way you will remedy the situation is to make auto fines more harsh and lock people up for serious infractions and seize vehicles if necessary.
Why won't this happen? $$$$$$

Weigh the costs of doing the divorce in Canada v. the cost of a plane ticket to CNX, a couple of nights in a hotel and a trip to the amphur to sign on the line to end the marriage. It may be cheaper to fly here and do it. At the same time gives your new husband to be a look at a beautiful place in the world.

What about the 1000s of "preferred" numbers the retailers are hoarding hoping to sell for big Baht? Those should be the dirst ones reclaimed or ordered sold at face value.

Probability of them being used is low. Continental Trailways in the US installed them on about a dozen buses in the late 1960's or early 1970's (sorry, I forget the exact time) to see how many people used them - drivers were instructed to inform passengers about their use. However, after a long period of time, it was found that most seatbelts were just pushed aside and/or stuffed into the spaces between seats by the passengers so they could sit more comfortably. But that was also before the seatbelts were upgraded to their present usability, with spring loaded retractors to keep them out of the way when not in use as they have today.
The equipping of and use is mandatory in buses in South Korea.

Perhaps in a crash maybe only the top half of you will fly? They won't wear them, and hardly effective in a crash having your lap restrained.
But I suppose it's a step in the right direction.
Maybe breath tests for drivers before each shift and random drug tests would do better.
