I think I know this guy. He used to own a karaoke place and would go out almost every night. Usually solo and usually throwing big money around. Wore gold chains like Mr T and I could barely understand what the guy said due to the way he spoke.
Edit - He looked very Chinese so I guess that's why they thought he was from there at first.
-
he was fined $2.84 . I wonder if they would allow him to pay it over several monthly installments
From the looks of him it could have been based on income.

Big Bike ? Kawasaki Z250 ??? If you say so sir.
It used to be that only bikes 150cc and below could be registered in Bangkok. Anything above that was considered a big bike.

Was this a similar dragnet operation like the one up north during the old regime years ago? I wonder how many were just 'in the way' criminals?
Bit different than as suspects were just shot dead. Amazing how much more violent the criminals were during that time!

Some surprisingly defensive comments here. If the description of those ugly foreigners doesn't match you then why worry?

harold 'can you give me 5 million please'
We need to get Harold a giant searchlight with an H on it like the Batsignal.

If she had shot him there'd be 5 pages about how bad guns are by now.
RIP to the guy.
Trying to use this to score points for gun ownership? Really?
Have a word with yourself.
We really should get all these knives off the street.
I agree. There are too many cases lately of innocent bystanders being hit by flying knives, people pointing knives at each other in traffic, and drive-by knifing of businesses in Yala.

Police don't seem too concerned that the guy in question disappeared several years ago. If he fled to escape charges he should be treated the same way as Thaksin with asset seizure and the trial progressing in his absence.
After all, Thailand is cracking down on corruption... Isn't it?

Walking out on a bill is never a good idea. If there's an issue get the tourist police. Get two of their staff to come with you if they think you'll do a runner.
Too many people try to stiff bars of bills that you're assumed guilty right away.
-
Thailand should apologize for making an issue of it.
Looks like you didn't read the article. Thais shrugged it off but Japanese were horrified and apologized on their own.

If you are sick and unable to travel you can get an extension on that basis already. In fact Bumrungrad has a floor with people who take care of this on behalf of their customers.
People overtstay because they can and the penalties were sometimes cheaper than complying. Times have changed.

If the investigators had gone to his website they'd see that he was initially planning to live in Europe for a year or two. That would explain the Euros.
Sad story. He seemed from the website to be a kind and thoughtful person.

Ridiculous. But goes to show how afraid some Westerners are of terrorist attacks. They'd rather live in a city where one could be kidnapped, shot by gangs, or raped than in Bangkok because there was a bomb here.

I'm sure I'm going to be flamed to death for this, but I'm really sick with this "a slap is unacceptable, traumatizing violence" nonsense.
9th graders are no small kids. Look at these girls, some of them are taller than he is.
Have I been slapped by my teachers when I was a kid? yes, several times, although one of my primary school teacher, being a football (soccer for you americans) player, used to prefer a good kick in the butt
Was I traumatized? no
Am I angry at these teachers? not the tinest, for as far as I can recall I did really deserve it every time. Actually I'm still friends with that teacher with a good kick. He's a very old guy now.
Times have changed. When I was much younger than these girls I was smacked on my hands by a ruler in front of the class. Can't remember what I did wrong but I remember it hurt a lot and I didn't want it to happen again!

Nothing will change. Most other countries that make cheap stuff are worse than Thailand.

Why didn't the airport white ticket say where he was going?

I know and respect Tom as a journalist but in a piece about corruption and impunity I thought that even he might at least mention the greatest practitioner of those in SE Asia in recent decades. But evidently he's leaving as much of a Thaksin partisan as he was when he began. I will not miss his largely one-sided writing on this country.
That was something always predictable in a Fuller article. He would criticise one side for an action but when the other side did the same thing it was conveniently ignored or whitewashed.

The west has been good to Thailand now you are turning to communist countries as allies , be carefull what you wish for Prayut.
Honest question, what has the West done lately?
Recent proposed investments have come from China and Japan. EU and US are no longer Thailand's largest buyers of Thai products. Only time US seems to come up regarding Thailand is when the ambassador makes critical comments.

Would sooner see Trump in office than Cruz. Cruz was responsible for shutting down the government, would get rid of same sex marriage, get rid of Obamacare and set back foreign relations 40 years.

What's Buzzfeed's source?
During the trial it was reported that the UK police wouldn't hand over IMEI information so Miller's father had to get it from the mobile company himself.
Edit- For example, "Smashed phone found at second defendants home was proven to belong to Miller, with help from Millers father to identify the IMEI serial number."
Evidence is evidence, no matter the source.
I seem to remember Andy Hall revealing that one of the B2 confessed to him that he was in possession of David's phone and sunglasses with both the sunglasses and phone broken and thrown away afterwards (presumably to rid themselves of the implicating evidence).
If someone burgled a house, would they smash their booty the next day? This behaviour just doesn't make sense to me and the forthcoming explanation as to how they became in possession of these two items is just too ridiculous to conceive!! The court is right to use this as genuine evidence, resulting in the guilty verdict.
The original article is suggesting the UK government helped the case which ended in B2 being on death row. Even if they are guilty beyond any doubt the UK can't do that.
Info beforehand said that the UK government didn't hand over info. And in fact in the "anonymous" video there is a brief flash of a letter from the UK government confirming that they can't hand over information.
Yet Buzzfeed sources are now saying that the UK government did in fact participate in the case. It doesn't change the outcome of the case but means laws were broken in the UK.
I think this is more journalistic mudding of the waters. Wouldn't surprise me if those so called inside informers didn't actually exist.

It is all a moot point. The police failed to link possession of the phone to the accused, yet the court went with it. Just as the court accepted the confessions which were the result of torture and written by a man who could not speak the language of the accused or Thai with any degree of competency. They also accepted DNA evidence which appears to have been done by a 5 year old in the kitchen and recorded in crayon.
If the court didn't care about any of that then...
The defendants admitted to finding the phone. That's when their story changed to returning back to the beach at 5am to collect their clothes.

and from the source Buzzfeed newsserial number of David Millers iPhone which was supposedly found, broken, in a property linked to the two murder suspects.
and before anyone else makes a comment - this changes absolutely nothing, it all comes down to which iphone was found where, an IMEI was submitted for verification, only the Thai police know which phone was found where
The iPhone found at the crime scene was unimportant it seems - and has remained so
nothing new here, this has been discussed over and over on these forums
I would like to know the source of this news article and why it has been released - it adds nothing
who on earth is ................What's on Sukhumvit................seriously
Lawyers representing the pair said DNA samples from the alleged murder weapon a garden hoe did not match that of the two men, and Thailands leading forensic scientist told the court that the evidence had been so badly mishandled that it was worthless.
The prosecution case had also rested heavily on sperm samples collected from the crime scene, but when the defence asked to have the DNA independently tested Thai police officers failed to hand it over.
hmmmmm nothing new here
But that's of course not correct. They initially didn't hand it over but after the big ruckus of "all used up" they finally agreed to hand it over for independent testing. And then the defense decided not to test.

I have always believed this, desensitizes the knuckleheads, what game did they learn kicking someone's head in by 6 or more, even the girls are using this tactic, by some of the videos on FB, a Disgrace, should be Banned these games, sure some can handle it without acting out, but u have these imbeciles who cannot control themselves...
Society should not pander to the lowest common denominator. If we always did so we would not have movies, music, dancing, drinks, and much of our modern technology.
