  1. You can arrest as many migrants as you want; as long as the people who organize and facilitate these things on the Thai side of the border are left in peace, it will continue. So how about rounding up some of these organizers and facilitators who make (a lot of) money off of this human trafficking? Oh wait, I forgot, they can’t be touched because of all the brown envelopes they distribute, and all the payments they make to the retirement fund of the RTP.

My mate got stopped at a Police checkpoint, checking his alcohol level he failed miserably, he was able to walk to an ATM get money, pay people off, and drive home.

So you’re okay with someone who is intoxicated being allowed to drive home? What if he had caused an accident and had killed someone because he was drunk?

  3. Thailand best place to retire in Asia.

    * if you like jumping through all kinds of hoops to get the appropriate visa

    * if you like dual pricing

    * if you like the most dangerous roads on the planet

    * if you like thick smog 4-5 months every year when you live up north or in the greater BKK area

    * if you like a totally corrupt country with an equally corrupt military regime

Other than that (and I’m sure I forgot a few things) it’s heaven on earth.

  4. He really doesn’t have a clue what he’s talking about, does he? Omicron is even hitting countries hard where 80-90% of the people are fully vaccinated and more than half have had their booster shot. Thailand doesn’t come close to these figures. And this guy is running the health department and is in charge of the COVID response. The only glimmer of hope is that Omicron is apparently not as potent as Delta. Fingers crossed.

I hope it poisons all the 'important' people who don't give a stuff about anyone when it's bad in The North !

Totally agree with you, the powers that be need a swift kick in the butt, or as many as it takes for them to get the message and finally start doing something about the horrendous air pollution. But the thing is that they probably don’t suffer so much from this pollution, because they can afford aircon and the best air filters that money can buy. The ordinary folk are the ones that suffer the most, having to go to work on their motorbikes every day, having to spend time outdoors every day, and living in houses without aircon or air filters.

There is no indication in the story that the woman was poor. You assume she 'had some hard choices to make'. The choice she made to ride her motorcycle sidecar with a young child at 3am was the wrong call. Will it be repeated by others in the future? Of course it will, because of lack of Thai highway discipline. They're their own worst enemies.

So you’re accusing me and others on this forum of assuming things, while you’re doing exactly the same thing. Do you have any knowledge about why the woman chose to ride that vehicle at 3 am? I’m just saying there may have been circumstances that she had no choice, while you boldly claim that it’s always the wrong thing to do, no matter what. Life is not all black and white, you know.

Placing their family in danger knowingly is even worse - Obviously not in all, but in many cases precautions can be taken.

In this case - ensuring lights on the Samlor. In other cases ensuring the rear lights on the motorcycle are working. In other cases not riding at 30kmh down the centre of the road while the rest of the traffic is flowing at 60kmh. In other cases stopping at a junction rather than looking when its too late etc etc....

In my case it's ensuring the car is road worthy whenever going on a long trip... i.e. checking the tyre pressures regularly and before every long journey. It's ensuring my son is in his car seat, belted up properly each and every journey.

There are always ‘some’ precautions we can take to reduce our risk no matter what socio-economic demographic we originate.

Obviously you have never been in a situation where you didn’t have two baht to rub together and had some hard choices to make.

Watching the UK news today someone was claiming the omicron variant is no less severe than delta it is just that some many people are now vaccinated and boosted and/or have had covid19 that it appears to be less aggressive?????

From what I understand, Omicron is (a lot) more infectious and makes more people sick, but they generally become less sick and less people die from it, even those who are not vaccinated. I’ve heard virologists say they hope Omicron will soon become the dominant variant world wide.

    What a cowardly act.

Exactly, the lowest of the low. Happens more and more often in my country as well, people causing accidents and then doing a runner, probably because they are drunk or high on dope, leaving (seriously) injured victims behind. The law needs to become a lot harsher for scum like this, or people who kill someone while driving drunk, high or playing/texting on their phones.
