have just completed building an aussie queensland house 100 ks from udon thani, in the bush, perfect for the hot thai climate, concrete and steel, no timber, i was involved in every stage of construction, as a 67 year old builder , carpenter, electrician, plasterer, bricklayer, and much more, it was ,for me my finest and most difficult project that i have ever attempted, most workers had never seen the materials and tools that i used, eg nail guns, super blocks, steel roof trusses, insulation and quality aluminium windows and minimal concrete posts and quality finishes, , it is finished now and many thai people want to build the same but just do not know how, it can be done, just have patience and do not get stessed out, thais learn quickly, you just have to show them what YOU want and have good planing with willing happy workers, building costs are definately on the rise in thailand, now is the time to build, once was enough for me,just got my new hip fitted after the house party, it was not easy

Would love to see pics of it though, a Queenslander in Thailand.... I wish.

well that is probably why I had never heard of her, two different teams.

    That's ridiculous.

no, seriously I had never heard of her. Not on Australian T.V

Same Same, I only knew of her existence about a year ago when she was on some show I saw in a motel with Gene Simmons from Kiss and Trump... she ruined the show IMHO. Just a loud mouth.

I feel sorry for you if your wife has been unfaithful or has been misleading you, however this is not necessarily the domain of Thai women alone, although it does seem to happen with a great deal of regularity here.

For what it's worth, I was in a live-in relationship with a Thai lady for 4 to 5 years, when I decided to head out on my own for the single life which I craved again. I had bought the house in conjunction with her, paid out for family illnesses and problems etc, bought her a motorbike and so on, and all with an open heart.

I had used a local lawyer in buying the house and used him again with the "settlement" details and all went very well, and I walked away with the majority of the funds I had put into the relationship, whilst still enabling my ex to benefit to the tune of around 1 million baht, which was fine by me.

What I'm trying to say is that you really need to know where you stand before you act upon any of the suggestions here (some seem as if they would work?) and I second the call for you to sit down with a good lawyer.

As one poster has already mentioned, you need to get the chips stacked on your side, and he/she can help you do this, knowing Thai law as they do. However common sense also comes into it, so the more "chips"/benefits/proof of you providing in the relationship etc etc you have, the more powerful your position.

The worst-case scenario could be that you walk away with 50% of everything, and if this is the proposition put forward by the lawyer, then you would start negotiating with regards to her keeping the house and you having your part paid in cash and so on.

Divorce in any country is never easy as many on here will attest to, however the more you can document with regards to how much you have put into the relationship, the better it will be because you have something to bargain with.

As was suggested early on by others, your starting point is to see a lawyer to see the lay of the land and only then can you start to put a plan into action, any other actions without knowing where you stand may not benefit you at all.

    Good luck.

4-5 years for 1mill (30k), and you dump her. I think she would have been better without you, don't think you did her any favors.

  4. I have had quotes this month from 3 and the best any of them can do is around 14,000 Baht per cubic meter (sometimes +VAT), the cheaper ones don't include a lot but don't tell you that.

This is a door to warehouse delivery (Melb). They insist on sending a team to pack you. This of course means lots of space (cubic meterage) they can garner with newspaper, no thanks. Its a jungle out there, be sure of what you are getting with each quote, or it may cost you just as much when you arrive as it did to ship in the first place.

    SERVICES EXCLUDED by some cheapies:

    - Quarantine Inspection approx. AUD165-200

    - Terminal Handling Charge at Destination approx. AUD120-180/cbm

So if you find any better, make sure you get back to here. I will look at the two suggestions above as well.

    Oz

PS. edit: Most of them do not handle automotive as well, only household and min of 5 cubic meters, you will have to ask

Thanks Turkleton, and all others for the advice.

It's now on you tube, I just hope it was worth the effort. alt=laugh.png>

Nice to finally see the vid :), will give it a go when I have some time.

The sausage roll recipe was nice too, may I suggest that if you don't want as much 'puff' in your pastry, that you give it a roll first. I gather you are buying the pre-made puff sheets from MAKRO @150bht? I roll them out to about 1.5 times their size first. This means the kids don't get covered in flake pastry crumbs and can get their mouth around them....

In the mean mean time here's my never fail ready in 1hr bread (works for Raisin Bread too)

200ml Warm Water (above 43degC below 59degC, 48 works for me)

    ¼ Cup Oil

    1/8 Cup Sugar

1 TBSP Yeast (sometimes I get away with 3/4)

    (Fruit Loaf Options)

    1 TSP All Spice

    ½ Cup Mixed Fruit

Put all this is a bowl and leave to activate for 15-20 mins, then add (this is proving the yeast)

    1 Egg

    ½ tsp Salt

    3 Cups Bread Flour

Mix to a dough (slightly sticky is good) , shape/cut if needed, let rise in a warm place till doubled in size. Bake @ 200 degC for 10 min (Rolls) 20 min (Loaf)

Well I tried your recipe this morning using raisins instead of mixed fruit.

    Here is the result.

However as the proof is in the eating and for a measure of quality control I was able to use my western food taster (me) to check it out.

It was grrrrrrrrrrrrreat as Tony the Tiger says. Still warm and with lashings of butter I enjoyed it.

    Thanks Oz

That looks good, I think I go a bit heavier on the spices by the color you got, it will be all about building that to your taste anyway. I get a 1kg bag of raisins and sultanas from MAKRO if you have one handy, lasts ages then.... nothing beats a fresh loaf, ours never makes it to the second day.

As an aside, I use this also for hot-cross buns when the season is in.....

    butter....mmmm

  7. Did mine 2 days ago at Nakhon Pathom (renewed my 2 5yr licenses). They made me watch the video, do the depth perception, brake, color and peripheral vision tests. Paid my cash and was on my way. I had heard they were a little tough so I had prepped for the e-exam, but no test. It took about 2 hours as there was a crowd of us. The address ID I got from immigration. Copy of passport, tabien baan and owners ID copy and the form required from immigration signed by her.

Same with putting powder on a digital safe shows the four numbers greased up by fingers.
Then you have just 4! Combinations to get it right (as long as they are four different numbers).
So touch more numbers when you finish.

Sent from my iPad using ThaiVisa app

Not when I went to school.

    1234

    2341

    3412

    4123

    1342

    2431

    .... etc

4 to the power of 4

  9. Yontrakit as has been stated the licensee for all VW AUDI etc. parts here in Thailand, as I thought it was clear in my post. You want parts, in Thailand, no matter who you get them off (non genuine excluded) they come from there and are marked up depending on the dealer. A recent example was and expansion tank, called dealer 3,500 called Yontrakit, 1,700... both take 2 days.

  10. Cloves are everywhere, Chinese shops in the village, Tesco. The Cinnamon also, the nutmeg may be the hardest one to find, but if you have a Daiso they have it in there sometimes.

I've also been tempted to try a Chinese 5 spice with a bit of cheese maybe, juts never got around to it, and the kids love sweet things

Commonwealth bank in australia offers an at call deposit online account, that has a government guarantee and currently pays 4 percent per annum. If you are not a tax resident of Australia you will pay 10 percent witholding tax so still yielding 3.6 percent.

Correct, but you're only allowed 95,000 AUD per account and you can only have 2 accounts,

but they need to toped up 200 AUD every month....or you don't get the 3.6%....

Perhaps unrelated to the OP (he may not be Aussie) but if the Commonwealth is an issue, then move to the ANZ progress saver, effective rate of 4% at call, minimum monthly deposit is only $10, much easier to handle, and there is no deposit limit nor account limits. I ditched the CBA 10yrs ago.

Now to the OP's question....as he specifically said in Thailand. Your question is vague, do you want it to grow or do you want to use it? If you want it to grow then find an investment vehicle that suits you. If you are aggressive go into business, by stock invest in shares, but do it with the realization that you could lose the lot. If you want to play it safe, stick it in a bank, kick your heals up and enjoy your 7k a month, not very exciting is it?

  13. and finally for today... did he really go there?

The Saudi Ambassador to the UN has just finished giving a speech, and walks out into the lobby where he meets President Obama. They shake hands and as they walk the Saudi says, "You know, I have just one question about what I have seen in America."

President Obama says "Well your Excellency, anything I can do to help, I will do."

The Saudi whispers "My son watches this show 'Star Trek' and in it there are Russians, Blacks, and Asians, but never any Arabs. He is very upset. He doesn't understand why there are never any Arabs in Star Trek."

President Obama laughs and leans toward the Saudi, and whispers back, "It's because it takes place in the future...."

  14. A groom and his newlywed wife go to the Hilton on their honeymoon. They check in at the front, and the receptionist gives the groom a key to the bridal suite. The whole evening, the people in the next room are phoning down to the main desk to complain about the moaning, which doesn't stop for one minute the whole night.

The next morning at 6 a.m., the groom calls room service.

"Hi, could I get some breakfast brought up here?"

"Sure, what would you like?" asks room service.

The groom says, "Well, I have to replace all the energy I lost last night, so you'd better get me 6 fried eggs, 9 sausages, 12 slices of toast, and 6 liters of orange juice."

Room service replies, "Gee, that's quite an appetite you have there. Is that for your wife as well, or just for you?"

"No, that's just for me. Can you send up six pieces of lettuce for my wife as well?"

Room service asks, "Why six pieces of lettuce?"

The groom replies, "I want to see if she can eat like a rabbit too!"

  15. A man is sent to prison for the first time. At night, the lights in the cell block are turned off, and his cellmate goes over to the bars and yells, "Number twelve!" The whole cell block breaks out laughing. A few minutes later, somebody else in the cell block yells, "Number four!" Again, the whole cell bloock breaks out laughing.

The new guy asks his cellmate what's going on. "Well," says the older prisoner, "we've all been in this here prison for so long, we all know the same jokes. So we just yell out the number instead of saying the whole joke."

So the new guy walks up to the bars and yells, "Number six!" There was dead silence in the cell block. He asks the older prisoner, "What's wrong? Why didn't I get any laughs?"

"Well," said the older man, "sometimes it's not the joke, but how you tell it."
