Same with putting powder on a digital safe shows the four numbers greased up by fingers.
Then you have just 4! Combinations to get it right (as long as they are four different numbers).
So touch more numbers when you finish.

  2. Yontrakit as has been stated the licensee for all VW AUDI etc. parts here in Thailand, as I thought it was clear in my post. You want parts, in Thailand, no matter who you get them off (non genuine excluded) they come from there and are marked up depending on the dealer. A recent example was and expansion tank, called dealer 3,500 called Yontrakit, 1,700... both take 2 days.

  3. Cloves are everywhere, Chinese shops in the village, Tesco. The Cinnamon also, the nutmeg may be the hardest one to find, but if you have a Daiso they have it in there sometimes.

I've also been tempted to try a Chinese 5 spice with a bit of cheese maybe, juts never got around to it, and the kids love sweet things

Commonwealth bank in australia offers an at call deposit online account, that has a government guarantee and currently pays 4 percent per annum. If you are not a tax resident of Australia you will pay 10 percent witholding tax so still yielding 3.6 percent.

Correct, but you're only allowed 95,000 AUD per account and you can only have 2 accounts,

but they need to toped up 200 AUD every month....or you don't get the 3.6%....

Perhaps unrelated to the OP (he may not be Aussie) but if the Commonwealth is an issue, then move to the ANZ progress saver, effective rate of 4% at call, minimum monthly deposit is only $10, much easier to handle, and there is no deposit limit nor account limits. I ditched the CBA 10yrs ago.

Now to the OP's question....as he specifically said in Thailand. Your question is vague, do you want it to grow or do you want to use it? If you want it to grow then find an investment vehicle that suits you. If you are aggressive go into business, by stock invest in shares, but do it with the realization that you could lose the lot. If you want to play it safe, stick it in a bank, kick your heals up and enjoy your 7k a month, not very exciting is it?

VW Caravelle V6 AMV Cosworth owner. There is no point being a member of any club here, in a very short space of time you will know more than most if you belong to a forum in the UK. All you need to know is... you want parts they come from one place... YONTRAKIT. You want someone to fit them, then its pot luck, I have used over 10 dealers and most are just glorified B-Quik's. I paid one guy 1,900 baht for a OBD read/reset, and 2,500 for putting some plumbers tape on a water leak (incidentally the tape roll was left in my engine bay) that was an official VW dealer.

I had a OBD read yesterday FOC but it was a paperclip job alt=laugh.png>

I ended up buying a 'made in china' OBD - USB cable for $5 off ebay, and downloaded the free version of VCD Lite.... job done. Mind you I'm not a slouch around a car, it may be over a novice level.

Ok so my wife comes to Australia on a partner visa and isn't entitled to any social security for 2 years.is that right.I have 2 kids coming also that are oz citizens so am I able to claim family allowance part a and b for them.

You can claim family tax benefit A & B for your kids as soon as they arrive in Australia, you can also get it for any kids that your partner has that aren't yours (doesn't matter if they are citizens or not)

The 2 year waiting period for social security doesn't apply to family members of Australian citizens. A partner is considered a family member.

Is this from personal experience? as the info uses that magic word MAY be exempt, I love the English language!

The Newly Arrived Resident’s Waiting Period may not affect you if you are:

  10. I appreciate that, but I was never trying to make myself out to be some millionaire or anything, far from it. But the question came to mind as some, not all of our club lives in Thailand, and most may not work, meaning they have the means (or had them...lol) to sustain themselves. I was bringing the topic up as I mentioned just to run the idea past everyone to see what the plans were in the regard. Let's call this part done then for lack of concrete evidence. On to something else useful.

As you know your spouse is entitles to 550hours of language tuition when they arrive @ AMEP. This however it seems, only really applies if you live in an area where they can provide that class, and if you do not use that 'quota' within 6 months? of arriving it is lost. A lot of free tuition down the drain. MOST of these places are only located in the major cities. For anyone remote from them is just hard luck. The Thai wives sites mention a lot of the wives who already have a command of English using their allotment to study other things, such as aged care, business management etc... whatever they can/want to at a TAFE. Does anyone have any hard and fast examples of how this was achieved?

  11. A few long posts I put in here with info etc. just got glitched away.... oh well! I'm glad you think its not a real problem of having assets such as land here but I'm sorry I can't accept the 'she'll be right mate' thought.

Currently the Thai Government is ramping up inheritance tax on undeveloped land, so it forces land owners to develop the land or pay an ever increasing tax on it per year owned. You can check the threads here on TVF. If they wish to avoid essentially losing their land to tax, they must DO something with it, this derives income. Income, assets even here in Thailand (however large or small) is legally to be declared on your tax return. Failing to do this is tax evasion and not likely to win you any friends in the DIAC either.

It is fairly obvious, that the banking interest and conditions are far better and more stable in Australia than Thailand. Anyone with half a brain when given the choice to invest large sums of money in a Thai bank or an Australian one would choose Australia. If the land is sold while your spouse is in Australia, the funds would best 'work for you' in Oz. Why would you bother to leave it in Thailand doing stuff all? If you're English or American I get it, their banks are not much better interest wise than here.

edit PS: The reason for this inquiry is not that I have some hi-so rich Thai wife and I want to hide money. But it does directly effect your eligibility for Social Security payments if and when they are eligible and necessary. I think the income/assets threshold for couples is as low as 200G, at which point you won't be able to claim any benefits. As I said I have done this all before a couple of times, every time, the goal posts keep moving, and being complacent is a definite concern.

  12. Thank for the info krisb, I have been through the settling process a few times but I don't think it is as easy as you make it seem.

Medicare is a doddle. You get your blue card, will change to green one when PR is granted.

    Medical Insurance

Does the loading apply to TR or PR residents over 31?

    ATO and Banking involves tax

If your wife has no assets, then there is not much to worry about, open an account, she can even do this on a tourist visa (pay 10% witholding tax)! BUT if your wife actually has some money we have a whole different ball game. As a resident for tax purposes she must legally declare all income foreign and domestic. The implications of these are quite deep. Without getting into the details too much, any assets or property held in Thailand are taxable income in Australia. My father-in-law was a hard worker on the roads here in Thailand, and he spent most of his pay packet buying land ahead of them. Passed on some 10 years ago and left it to my wife. If she rocks into Australia with over half a million dollars in her pocket, tax wise where does that put her? Would she be best to leave it here? Exchange it? These are the details I'd like to get some discussion going on, they may affect us all.

edit: Something else that just occurred to me, is the 'baby bonus' I think there is a window of up to 18 months or more for claiming it, some members may have a claim to that as well?

  13. 'Cranking Power' derives from two things, voltage (normally a car battery should have 12.6v standing) and amperage (this is written on the battery, 75Amp is the most common), If the initial kick is not enough to start the engine, then it will drain amperage for longer cranking times. When you repeat this a few times you wear out your battery unless you do long enough drives to fully recharge it, which most of us don't.

Also the added loads we put on the battery (running AC 24/7) doesn't give them a chance to recharge even if the alternator is working at the full 14v. To shorten crank time, you would look at the usual culprits, air and fuel and fire. Sparks are easy to check, fuel pump, injectors. When you are sure all these are good then I would get a battery check done.

If you replace the battery without getting to the cause of the long crank, you will just kill a new battery (3-4000 Bht) in a few months and be back where you started.
