Could police have 'planted' the phone? Initially, they said the found phone belonged to Hannah, then they changed their story.

When the defendant (note: one defendant, not two) claims he found the phone on the beach, what time did that happen ....before the crime? after?

If he made that claim during torture, than it means absolutely nothing. He could admit to being The Pope under torture.

The worst the phone incident shows, is one of the defendants might be a petty thief who took something off a beach.

You need to read Andy Hall's facebook post which was reposted by StealthEnergiser a short while ago. Wai Phyo testified that he found the phone at around 4:00am on 15 September while he was out looking for his guitar and clothes.

While this doesn't look good for Wai Phyo, it is still only circumstantial evidence linking him to the murders. It doesn't in itself prove that he and Zaw Lin murdered Hannah Witheridge and David Miller. We should also consider the possibility that he is telling the truth when he says he came across the phone by accident.

I wonder what happened to the sunglasses he is also charged with stealing?

Since Wai Phyo was looking for his clothes, it removes one of the objections to Wai Phyo being the running man. It is an admission that he changed his clothes. I still do not believe the Burmese kids guilty of the murders, but this has been by far the worst day for the defense.

The problem with following this drama is between police incompetency and deceitfulness it's impossible to know what could be anywhere near the truth - police saying they found Hannah's phone and then retracting it could be down to their usual deficiency in reporting capability and the way they absolutely love to jump in front of reporters with any glimpse of news when they're under pressure. Sorry for family and/or defendants but for joe-soaps like us I doubt we'll ever be sure of the full truth of what happened that night.

  2. Just to be Clear ...... Finsbury (whatever that means)

"The Phoenix members made it clear to everyone else that their campaign was aimed solely at improving their own terms and they would not be interesting themselves in improving terms for the average PSC member."

I have no idea where you plucked that "quote" from but it certainly was not included in the previous posts from Phoenix Shareholder / Members that contribute to TV postings. The existing Phoenix Shareholder / Members took the action not alone for their personable situation but for the benefit of all golfers that might wish to play Phoenix. And as you may have missed, the terms for golfers has changed at Phoenix since a case was initiated against them. Do you really think this would have occured without the case been brought against them?

If you do not wish to support the shareholder / member fight against injustice and right of membership as purchased - that is your right. But please get your facts correct and in your terms " get real ". If you wish to ignore what has happened at this course, that is your decision. But remember that once one club succeeds in " putting down the protest " the remainder of the cartel will follow.

Again I reiterate, I am retired and purchased my shareholder / membership of Phoenix with the sole purpose of playing golf for as long as I am able to, without hassle. That is what I paid for and expect. The new owners are trying to change the rules without discussion / consultation with existing shareholder / members. For me, this is not the way to do business. What I am really sad about is the attitude of posters such as Finsbury who have no consideration of the real case that is ongoing and are not interested in acquainting themselves with the facts.

After you have sought out the opinions of the shareholder / members and what has transpired to date, I look forward to your update.

It was the law of supply and demand that made Phoenix change to a non compulsory cart rule. The idea that it was legal action taken by some disgruntled members is laughable.

Phoenix members have battled against the course giving attractive terms for PSC members for years, hence the lack of support you are getting from them now.

Lifetime members of Tony's Gym might feel your pain, but they probably will not be coming out on the streets in support either.

Finsbury: what twaddle are you on about with that comment about Phoenix members battling against the PSC for years against them getting better rates ?

I've been at Phoenix for 9 years, know a substantial number of members and have never heard anything even remotely like this.

Phoenix ownership attempted to railroad it's members into a new membership deal effectively negating anything positive about the old one with respect to membership duration, playing conditions, yearly and round costs etc. and tied us to a falling guillotine by imposing a transfer fee that is just about the same cost as a membership. Nice work by them. Seen fair to you ? Good luck to you if it does.

It is a quality course, but I for one, despite my membership, hope it fails miserably and the owners losses open their eyes to the lower-so folk they tried to shaft.

As bartpix said a lot of people invested what is a lot of money for them and got pi$$ed down on from above. The sheer ignorance of the owners in purposely refusing to speak to anyone at any stage of this fiasco should indicate to you and the PSC chairman what the situation is like with them.

PSC as a club should have at least shown some respect and courtesy to ITS members who are at odds with Phoenix and as pointed out before, a note to same members explaining the situation prior to any courting being done may have avoided this subsequent bout. However the chairmans newfound 'friend'ship with Phoenix GM obviously has had a profound effect on how his decision making takes place since new found friendship and possible glory has outweighed any loyalty or decency to long time PSC members.

Nice work by PSC also. Yourselves and Phoenix are obviously well met.

  3. A pic from Ramayana a few days ago. It's huge and quite a bit of work is going on.

I am a bit confused - in the pic you posted it looks like there is no work going on at all, and it looks a lot like the pics on the ramayanawaterpark.com website which were uploaded when the "News" section of the site was last updated on the 24th Jan 2014. That's a long time with no update.

What kind of work did you see going on there? I seldom get out that way but if this place is looking like it may get going again I will hold off on joining the Cartoon Network place.

Jimmy, I posted the following on another thread about CN park a few days ago. Better hold off and see what Ramayana is like.

-Was at Cartoon Network a few weeks ago and here's my take for anyone interested. A Thai drivers license will get you some sort of a residents discount - sorry can't remember the prices.

A lot of the slides were not open. The paint is coming off the pool floors in some areas. The walkways around the slide areas have sand all over them since the pathway slabs have only been dropped like hot potatoes during installation. There's a huge concrete area just inside the entrance that I have no idea what it's for (maybe the cringeworthy dancers or CN characters complete with bodyguards that come out every hour or so) and in true local style the same concrete has cracks developing in areas already. An attempt to at least soften the place up visually might do something positive - it looks like an open workshop area with all that cold concrete. The Adventure Zone surrounding pool has a few water 'features' that are essentially groups of 8' plastic pipes sticking out of the ground with water flowing out of them into the pool, still in their majestic off-the-shelf blue colour, not even a slap of paint - watch out for them, you won't be disappointed. The place looks like it's been cobbled together in a last-minute rush. No thought given to the decor inside or outside. To top off the civil design engineers misery when a downpour arrived there were flip flops and food wrappings floating around the 3 to 4" of rain water that had nowhere to drain to.

And topping off my list of whinges is the food - absolute tosh ! The extremely limited western food consists of fries that have the strangest taste that I couldn't pin-point and onion rings that have powder inside instead of onions. The also very limited thai food I fail to understand how they got it so wrong in taste - and none of it cheap. There was even a separate cafe offering coffees with no coffee available inside. I was so close to ordering a years pass for the family some time ago and am thanking my backside I'm a procrastinator. It's basically a failed attempt to be and finally ending up, a poor distant well removed relative to anything Disney - but still trying to charge similar.

Sorry for being so bloody negative on this but for something that has a relatively decent name attached to it and that I've been waiting so long to arrive, they've managed to make a proper baIIs of.

    Here's hoping better from Ramayana-

  5. My non-o visa extension is due to expire in the middle of November but I expect to be out of country working for about 4-5 weeks from end of october/beginning of November into December.

Pattaya immigration have told me that I can only apply for it within a week to 10 days of the expiry date. I explained to them that I'll be outside and they've basically told me it means I will lose my original visa and will have to apply for a new one overseas - at considerable more expense.

I told them I would gladly apply for the extension in September or October and loose a month or two of my extension time on the existing extension but I've been informed by the immigration officer that it's not possible to apply outside the 2 week expiry window. Anyone working rotational work and living with family in Thailand with a non-o visa may have had similar issues. Would appreciate any info from anyone.

  6. Almost the same story here. After they became the first company to offer internet connection at my place, I had 3bb installed (called Monday and installed Tuesday) and initially had nothing but problems with apparent disconnections. Initially he ran it into the house on the phone line but since the phone line is disconnected more times that it's connected got them to come back and run their own cable in. Same story with it working for an hour and then gone. The 3rd party service guy told me it was a router problem and that 3bbs routers were rubbish. Had the router/modem changed twice with the same results. It'd work for an hour and then we'd have to call the guy again resulting in the system working for about 1% of the time. In the end I bit the bullet and bought a half decent router and have had practically uninterrupted internet for the last 2-3 months at reasonably decent speeds not at home now so can't give you the values but the speeds were good compared to what I was used to with my air-card anyway. I even went on here before and slated them for their rubbish but since got the new router have been pleased.
