  1. I'd be a bit paranoid to allow an unknown person stay in my house while I went off for a night out.

Raro, have you done that before without issue ?

If anyone could recommend someone trustworthy it'd be of interest to me also.

  2. Here's another take on the dual pricing that happened to me only 2 weeks ago at Pattaya Park amusement rides section.

Went along with 3 kids. Two of them are mine (luk kung - jet black hair) and the other lad who has lived here with his British parents for quite a few years has bright blonde hair. They wanted to go on some of the rides.

At the counter the lady asks me if my lads speak Thai, yes I said, so she gave me Thai price for them and went on and charged uprated price for the other lad. I asked why and she told me cos he's not Thai. I explained he lives here as well but she was having none of it.

So I gave back the tickets. Walked 10 meters away. Told the boys to sit down and went up myself with my drivers licence and asked for 3 of what the lads wanted. She started smiling and asked me if I was being honest with her. I told her I wanted to go on the rides myself. She smiled and gave me all the tickets at the same Thai price.

End point, like rintein says, it has nothing to do with tourism and all to do with how you look.

  3. I love this forum so much for all the people who pay close attention to the details.

@easyride: I never inferred they should have backed it up, at least never meant to infer that - I wrote that she wiped the phone and there was no backup and if you look closer, I then asked for no comments on who was the real imbecile for not having made a backup - inferring my wife !!

My whole point was the store clerk should have at least advised my wife that she was going to wipe the phone. She took the phone to see how to resolve the lock and without notice wiped it clean. Never said anything to my wife - this is the/my issue.

If I misrepresented myself then it must be my poor use of angrid and I'm sorry for wasting your obviously very valuable time.

@ gone and Guderian and all the others - thanks for the advice - you are all correct - 7 days return.

A struggle but end result was the phone has been returned and all money returned.

FYI (and I hope I'm not taken to task about anything in this explanation); it was a samsung and was sold by a broker located near the AIS shop in the Tesco on Nth Pattaya road. It required the store manager being called on the phone who initially refused and during the course of the conversation verbally abused my wife. A police report was mentioned, apologies flowed and money returned.

Drama over on both fronts....I hope...

  4. @easyride: who said the clerk should have done a backup ? my point was she could have at least mentioned to my wife that she was going to wipe the phone - wouldn't you think ? - and if you read again, I did admit that my wife should have done the backup herself - as I was anticipating a comment like yours.

    @Gone: thanks for your input.

  5. My wife just bought a phone two days ago and it keeps locking up. She's brought it back once already and the imbecile behind the counter reset the phone - all numbers gone - no back up (no comments about who's the real imbecile please) - a big 'solleeeee' was all that was got.

She says she'll give it another go but I'd like to know what's the general policy on returning goods here ? I know normally they'll insist it's not possible but if they completely refuse is there any law that can be thrown at them ?

I remember there was a consumer hot line setup or supposed to be setup a few years ago.

    Any info is welcome.

    Thanks.

  6. With all the rumpus about this continuing and with some attempts to arrest some of them a few months ago and with the amount of people who log onto this site surely there's someone who knows someone in city hall who could give some info on what their plans are for this drama ???

  7. Sorry Tropo but from your touchy replies it does look like there may be an ongoing concern indeed.

Most responders are warning the guy about the possible pitfalls of renting here and with all that's been going on most of the warnings are fairly justifiable.

I've regularly rented jet ski's in the past as well without any issue but would also give the same warnings if anyone asks.

As well as that you said "My wife really loves jetskiing and insists that we do it whenever we go there."....I thought you told Markland you live there.....

  8. I normally connect to the internet via a USB aircard (True). This requires starting the True application before connecting.

I've just bought a wireless router that I want to use to connect other items to the internet with also via the aircard.

When I connect the router via ethernet to the desktop, the desktop recognizes it but I'm unable to get a connection and can't figure out how the router will activate the True Connection application to get the connection.

Does anyone have any experience with this ? Any ideas are welcome

  9. Many thanks for the replies.

Bumrungrad would be the best option and was thought about but I must agree with Jayman in that if there's something small or an emergency then having to drive to Bangkok isn't really ideal. There used to be a really good doctor in BP hosp that we would always use for the kids and we felt very comfortable with her since there was no pushng of beds or drugs on the kids in any way whatsoever but she's left a few years ago and any time we go now it's been a different doctor each time in the hope of finding one we feel comfortable with but nothing as yet.

I'll give Sheryl a shout as well and see if she has any ideas.

    Thanks again.

  10. Looking for advice on a good paediatrician - someone who puts kids before profit.

My wife brought one of our kids to Bkk Pattaya hospital a few days ago with a persistent cough. She was told he'll have to stay the night and have some x-rays taken. They take the urlne. And no, he didn't stay.

    Any recommendations are appreciated.

  11. Why the "H" should they turn away customers? You blame it on them for letting you play when you could have just as easily walked away like your mates did and then come here complaining?

There is 36 courses around Pattaya you know.

Geez that movie theater should have never given us seats when they knew the only remaining seats were behind a couple that talked all the way through the movie. Shame on that movie theater.

Disagree since on many courses it may not be apparent that a golf course is overcrowded at the time you pay. There's a general time limit between groups that most courses stick with and that is not adhered to on this course when they take the bookings. Since the navy course is generally a cheap course they're trying to make up for it in numbers.

Also your comment re 36 courses - Having to change plan and go to a different golf course after getting out to Plutaluang for a round takes time that some people don't have on their hands.

On a side note for anyone that's interested, I hadn't played Khow Kheow in many years and went back there last week and was very very impressed with the way the course is now. The B course is an excellent example of what a golf course should look like and I thought it was good value for money too.

  12. So can you send your friends name and number to the OP to try and save this poor girls soul....

Wifey was listening to Thai TV a few days ago. Seems one of the electronics manufacturers is moving up towards Lamphang from Ayutthaya. They are looking for 500 workers and lamenting at how hard it is to find them. Guess the ones working there now don't want to move.

My neighbor runs a factory near here...says they have big problems getting workers. You can make up to 10k/month or so with overtime.

    So, other options are available.

  13. Sorry Tropo, this isn't meant to be a thread hijack - just an add-on to your request.

We're looking for anywhere that would have something to keep kids occupied while a few drinks are had afterwards ?

  14. For anyone out there looking to purchase the TM R-11 that's on 'offer' in Golf sale on the bottom floor of Central. The marked price yesterday (26 Sep) was 22,000bt reduced to 18k and a further 5% reduction possible - this was offered to my colleague. Three weeks ago I was in Super-sports looking at the same driver and the marked price was 18k. Not 22k.
