  1. I obtained my O-A in Jakarta. At that time I was a legal resident in Indonesia and according to the regulations it is there ,where I have to request (and not in my home country Holland). No problems whatsoever.

I received 365 days stay on my arrival at airport Bangkok.

Out of interest, from which police force did you get your police clearance?

Assuming it was the Indonesian police, how would they know what your status was in Holland (not that I am suggesting it was bad smile.png ).

"Of course" I received Indonesian police clearance.

I obtained the Dutch police clearance by Internet contacting the city administration where I was registered before my move abroad.I paid through Internet banking and I received the report by registered mail.

To be honest, obtaining the Dutch report was a rather simple action, but with the Indonesian bureaucracy it was less easy.

  2. OA can only be obtained in home country (if legal residence in China Thai Embassy might be able to issue) and is not the normal path for retirement. You can arrive on visa exempt entry or tourist visa and convert to non immigrant O visa of 90 days inside Thailand at an immigration office with proof of 800k in Thai bank account or 65k per month income letter from your embassy or a combination of the two meeting 800k per year and being over age 50. You would then 60 days later extend for retirement (do yearly) and there is no medical/police check/personal data form.

  4. Non immigrant O-A is a pre approved long stay visa issued by Thai Embassy in your home country. It requires proof of funds in home country plus medical and police report. If multi entry obtained each entry into Thailand during the one year visa is valid will get a new one year permitted to stay stamp - so an entry just prior to expiration still gets one year from that date. Thereafter you could obtain another or do the normal one year extension of stay from Immigration inside Thailand using local proof of funds.

Most people just obtain a non immigrant O or convert inside Thailand and do the local immigration retirement extensions of stay.

Income requirement is letter from Embassy so subject to what they accept as income. Immigration could ask for supporting documents for that declared income.

Thanks for that quick reply. You posted as I was looking again at the Ministry website and I found an explanation of Non O-A more by accident than anything.

I often wonder why it's easier to get information here on TV than on the official websites.

    Thanks again.

What is so complicated about the mfa website? ;)

    http://www.mfa.go.th/web/2482.php?id=2493

    looks pretty clear to me.

  5. Transfer my visa/extension info was no problem.

I checked before leaving Immigration office and found that the stamp of a single re-entry was not tranfered.

They answered that it could not be done and I have to show (also) my old passport at any border passing.

I requested for a new single re-entry (at 1000 baht plus photo )

This happened at Korat Immigration about 2 months ago

  6. [quote name='JimGant'

The euphemism "retirement visa," so loosely thrown around, is the source of most of the confusion when it's used in lieu of "extension of stay." All original 'extensions of stay' spring from one's last obtained Non Imm visa (suffix -- "O", "O-A" etc irrelevant)** This visa may have expired 20 years ago, and is located in one's long-expired passport. It's the chain of renewed annual extensions that matters. Break this chain, and it's back to square one of obtaining a Non Imm visa and the first annual extension of stay linked to that visa. That MFA -- and some consulates, like Hull -- actually state that Immigration will issue you a "retirement visa" certainly isn't helpful...

The "A" of the Non Imm O-A stands for pre-approved.The Ministery of F.A. will ask the immigration to pre approve your visa request and you will get a 365 days stay upon arrival.

The word "retirement is stamped on the visa page as well as on all other extensions.

  7. Advantages of O-A:

Not need money in a Thai bank untill your annual extension in Thailand.

You are free to decide when you actually leave for Thailand.( no time pressure)

Entering Thailand gives you a 365 days stamp.(plenty of time to arrange bank account-place to live-internet connection)

Arranging your move of house holds(?),knowing to have a annual visa already.

Plenty of time in your home country or country of residence to make all kind of arrangments and collect all different documents.

  8. [quote name='Thailaw' ' Don't talk to anyone (certainly not Thai immigration) until you have a plan that you are comfortable with and that you are willing and able to carry out. "Getting legal" is not that difficult and you have some sound advice as to how to carry that out. But "getting legal" will only help if you can and will "stay legal". Do you have B400,000 (if you are legally married) or B800,000 (if you are not legally married) in a Thai bank? Has it been there for at least 2 months? Unless you want to start doing visa runs (I doubt that you would consider going that route, or would continue with it very long), when you return to Thailand you will need to apply quickly for an extension of stay based on marriage to a Thai or retirement, depending on your marital status. You should have all of that lined up and ready before you make the big jump. When you have a plan and are ready with it, then talk to your embassy -- they may give some helpful advice and/or help you implement/liaise with Thai immigration . If you don't have the necessary funds available to get the one year extension of stay, then you are probably better off just keeping a low profile and continuing on as you are--its worked for 25 year! Good luck in any event....

    You nailed it Thailaw.

If you don't have the money for a visa or visa extension you will most probably loose the possibility to stay with your family.

Although illegal,I would certainly suggest you keep it this way as long as possible.

  9. Unless you still have (a copy of) the old passport with the details of your entry into Thailand, this might be a bit of a problem. Immigration might want to check if you entered the country legally, they also migth want to question you about your stay in Thailand and check if you were not working illegally.

I would go to Cheang Wattana and before you go contact your embassy so they might assist you. This one might require some extra time. If all is cleared, you should pay the fine if 20,000 baht and be on your way. It is wise to turn up at immigration with a ticket already in hand, so immigration is assured that you will now leave the country.

Buy a ticket on which you can easily change the departure date.

Normally you will not be blacklisted, and can get a new visa and enter Thailand again, either based on retirement or marriage (if you are legally married at the amphur).

If no money available for obtaining a visa and/or extensions,he most probably will block his own return back to his family.

    Better keep quite

  10. 400K THB must stay at least 3 months in a saving/current account

The seasoning period is only 2 months for a first time applicatio, which is what the OP states.

Only just last week somebody was refused an extension at Korat immigration, because the money was not 3 months on the account.

The man was sent away with a 60 days extension. ??

To my best of knowledge the immigration website states 2 months !!

  11. I believe it will be temporarely.

This present office in Chock Chai is far too small. There is only limited parking place on a (in rainy season) muddy underground. One toilet for all of the office workers AND visitors.

Further I spoke to foreigners who were invited (and present) at end of last year's "start new building" ceremony.

That was also in Dan Kwean but at the other side of the mainroad, not too far from this (temporarely?) "new' office.

Note: there are still immigration operations going on in the previous "temporarely" building at the TOT office on the mitrapap road, who will also be located in the new to build office.
