  1. For Germans there is a healthinsurance available for a travelperiod of up to one year (www.travelsecure.de), but you have to be less than 70 years of age and willing to pay 0,95 Euro a day. Besides that you can keep the prospective entitlement with your german insurance company for about 38 Euros per month. I hope something like that is available for other nationalities too.

    Not for Holland :D

I thought I had it well covered,in my preparation for retirement:

A written statement from my health insurance company that I could stay insured during retirement outside Holland.( to just continue my status as it has been for 42 years)

2 weeks after my 62nd birthday I received the message that there was a new law in Holland and......

at the end I stayed without an insurance or.... with a premium of growing till 1600 euro/person/MONTH,at present level :D (This for me and my wife 3200 euro/month!!!!!)

    AIA: see previous message

Bupa:only till 70 years of age and with all the rerstrictions that a 62 years history may bring :o

Yes I agree with the statements that you need insurance but under the present circumstances I decided to have a special "health" account opened with enough funds to feel comfortable. But what is enough??

  2. I've been getting a "connection has timed out" error message for the past two days. I have two other web sites hosted by the same ISP in the States with no problem. When I contact the ISP hosting service says it works fine for them. Here in Chiang Mai I am using True Internet for my connection. But when I go to a censorship bypass site (I guess I'm not allowed to mention it here) the site comes up OK. I'm sure it's not being censored, having nothing to do with politics or sex.

Can anyone else access it? Any guesses what might be going on?

Lost dynasat 03 january at 19.30 hr.Got it back yesterday 22.30 hr.

In the meantime "Key updating message"

The lady I worked with here in Thailand is Preeya. She'll let you know who to use in the UK.

    rgds

2 years ago I worked also with Preeya from Asian Tigers.

    Perfect job.

one 40 ft container without any problem or extra money (may be that was already included in the price :o )

Stuff was transported, unloaded and unpacked and fitted and hanged, whatever was needed.

A 100% correct loading list with all items specified per box.We really shipped ALL.

    incl.3 tv's and 3 dvd's.They were called resp. TV-Kareoke station- Videogames station :D

They will provide you with a list and advise you how to fill in your paperwork.

Customs are not interested in the marriagal status of your wife. They will only check(the transport company will do too,at least that is what Asian Tigers did!!) how many times your wife returned during the last 1 1/2 year.

I did a door to door delivery and never was at the customs in person.Asian Tigers went with my wifes passport to their office and brought it back to the hotel the same day.

  4. The begin of this year AE (Holland) refused to mail my card.

They did authorize AE office in Bkk to print and issue my card.

The card is still connected to my bank in Holland as instructed by AE Holland to AE Thailand.

Mastercard (Holland) did mail the card directly to my address in Thailand.

After receiving had to phone Holland to activate the card(those instructions were mailed seperately).

  5. Just checked my AE card (gold).Issued at AE headoffice in Bkk.Everything fine :o

    About names:

Just had a new account at SCB.

On-line, I checked the name (writte in thai) and I found trouble.

I do have 3 given names and a last name.

Not having space enough for all 3 given names they decided to put the last given name in front of my last name.

    given names:a-b-c

    last name : d

I now have on my account: given names:a-b

    last name: c-d

I wonder if a transfer from abroad will go allright?

    Waiting???

    Calling the service??

  8. Well.... through MSN,I got my message that the answer from the service guys is there but................... :o I CANNOT log in!!!!

They forgot to answer through Yahoo as requested.

As mentioned I am using windows live

  9. Having the same problem, although not every day.

Noticed that on occasions I cannot log in,there is a sign of Verisign(lock sign).

I am using Windows life (the latest hotmail download) and it happened since.

Yesterday (when it was operational for a couple of hours-no Verisign?) I send mail to customers helpdesk.Of course I asked them to answer on my yahoo mail :o .

Answer should be there within 24 hours

  10. The 28th of every month, money goes from my Dutch bank account to my Thai bank account.

    It arrives the 29th, no exception.(except february,it arrives the 1st of March :o )

Never gave a reason why I transfered or was asked for one.

  11. I've lived in SE Asia for over 10 years and just "retired" to Thailand six months ago. The only reason we are in Thailand is because my wife is Thai and we live close to her family (although her two children are in HK, we both have HK PR).

None of the previous posters refer to their wives' aspirations - I don't think that mine could settle well in my home country (UK) and I have no wish to go back there.

We have a few small farms which we cultivate with the family, having bought machinery this year. I believe that I am integrated as part of the family and I suppose this is part of my investment for the future, i.e. I will have people who care and will look after me in my even older age.

I have been amazed at how low my cost of living is - we are spending a fraction on day-to-day living costs that I budgeted, so I do not foresee financial worries, in any case, we could live off the land if necessary. :o

We have many future plans, e.g. building a house on our most beautiful farm to spend weekends, etc. and there is always something to do on the farms, although I do need more mental stimulation. However, I would not consider moving long term to anywhere else despite all the frustrations.

    Hi Pnu,

Good to read that you are doing OK.

3 years ago we were chatting on TV while both still on the job :D

Obviously we both don't regret the retirement step.

  12. I consider most people below the age of 60 too young to retire (excepted special circumstances of course).

I retired with 62 after a 42 years of hectic business life (always a salary-bonus base)

At 62 had the opportunity to go with pre-retirement.

My future stay in Thailand preparations were ready (house -car-communication-banking-moving arrangments) and I never regret it till to-day.

It is heaven on earth every evening to realize that the next morning there is NO "must".

Have to say that I enjoyed every single minute of my working life........till the decision was taken!

My income is a fixed monthly income per month, till I die. Every year with inflation correction :o

Haven't been back to my home country since 1999 and most probably will not do so in the future.

Retiring at 60 plus means also that you are in the opportunity to arrange/prepare your retirement funds over a longer period.

  13. Guardian:your comment is useless.

    Jasmin rice:

Very good to worry and think about it.

It happened to me 14 months ago.My wife died (was 10 years younger) unexpectedly.

I was lucky that my brother in law ( a lawyer) arranged all the paperwork to have the property in my son's name.My mother in law had to sign all kinds of paper, which she did.

Continue to follow the several good advises and ignore people like guardian
