  1. For me, allopurinol (generic) (a.k.a. Zyloprim or Zyloric) works well.

From Boots (I don't want to buy a cheap fake), the 100 mg tablets are 800 Baht/100, and the 300 mg tablets are 2000 Baht/100.

If your symptoms are mild, start with 100 mg/day, and work up slowly.

If you get any sort of rash, stop immediately. (In theory you can restart with 50 mg/day after a couple of weeks, then work the dose up, but I'd recommend doing so under the supervision of a decent doctor.)

When I tried Atkins, I was almost immediately in agony - I needed to up my dose to six times the norm. I won't be trying low-carb diets in the future.

Disclaimer: I am not a medical doctor - if in doubt, or you have unexplained symptoms, talk to a proper doctor.

Well I bought recently (from hospital prescription Bangkok hospital and St Mary hospital in Korat) Alopurinol 300 at 500 baht/100 pcs.

Yesterday I went to Boots and I checked the supply list:They don't have alupurinol 300 on their list but Alinol 300 at 380 baht/100 pcs.Lady told me it was the same.On the list they wrote:Alinol(alopurinol).

  2. 2 months ago,I obtained certificate from immigrarion office in Korat.

In my case I used the yellow tabien baan.

15 minutes and 200 baht later ,I had my certificate :o

Now ya got me confused. I sort of figured that the YELLOW TAMBIEN BAAN, which I obtained a couple months ago, would mean that I'd never need another "certificate of residence" again from anybody, the embassy, Immigration, or the amphur.

Who was it, or which Thai government office, that insisted on the certificate as opposed to the yellow tambien baan?

    Mac

    Sorry,I should have mentioned.

Certificate was for use OUTSIDE Thailand.

I had it translated and with notary seal on it.Was cheaper than going to embassy in Bangkok. :D

Just want to make things clear to new visitors of this forum.

I find the use of the name "certificate of residence" is wrong and confusing to new visitors to this forum.

The Certificate of Residence is the blue book you get if you have permanent residency in Thailand

as in Camerata's Guide To The Permanent Residence Process http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=74654

As you know this is not easy or cheap to get here in Thailand.

The document you are talking about is a certification of presence from a foreign embassy.

Cost about 1500 bath at most embassy.

And even if you DO have a certificate of residence some goverment office still require a certificate of presence , makes no sense I know, but TIT :D

Just checked the embassy website. It is called "certificate of residency"

The immigration office certificate is officially translated as "certificate of residency"

For my PIT(personal income tax) I am "resident"

btw:never heard of a certificate of presence

  4. I only include this old info for the benefit of anyone new to LOS.......

    Not new :o

And not (yet) old enough for a retirement visa, but no time like the present to start planning (i.e. salting $$ in the bank).

Do I have to apply for a retirement visa in my home country ? I heard something that if you have a VOA or Tourist Visa, you can apply to change it to a Retirement Visa while in country (assuming you meet the other criteria of course) ?

In addition to the Pension Verification (from the embassy) and the Account Verification (from the bank), what else is required ? I know certain Visas require a recent Criminal Record check (home country) and Medical Check-up (local ?).

Of course, there are also the photocopies of the passport/current visa, passport pics and I would assume a Residency Certificate (issued by the same Immigration Office) ?

I suppose I could browse the SunBelt site again and the embassy pages (again), but I've already typed this all out so it would be quicker to click the "Add Reply" button than delete the post ! :D

Being a Dutch, but living and working in Indonesia,I applied for my O-A (pre aproved) "retirement " visa in Indonesia.

Prepared all before going to the embassy.

Had my criminal record check from Holland as well as from Indonesia (could do the Dutch record on-line :D ).Medical check up from my local MD.Money amount on the bank in Holland(bank statement)No problem but waiting for a couple of weeks before OK from Bkk came in.On my arrival in Bkk ,I got the 1 year stamp without asking. :D

  5. Still no answer on what satelite this FOX can be received.

Me ,as well as the OP(I suppose) don't have highspead landlines,so receiving on PC is not possible. :D

Funny how many people react on a simple question with all kind of moral preaching (pro or con ) :o

  6. I am sure for me tomorrow will be another day trying to get UBC on the phone since I have two accounts and therefore double the chance something will go wrong. However, I am interested in seeing what channels ultimately do get offered and how much. Specifically, their January 2007 monthly schedule mailed to us has an advertisement containing the Disney Channel logo, but of course it is in Thai so I can't read it.

Does anyone have any info on when the Disney channel is likely to be offered?

I have 2 accounts too,but last time no trouble :o

Blank screens in the morning but after being 5 seconds disconnected, both worked fine.

If you want to know what you can expect tomorrow, on channel 9 they already show the new programming.

    Till 99 this time.

Let your black box(es) plugged and ON.

    Good luck

  7. Too many complaints on Thaivisa :o:D

So they listen to us? :D

Hope there will be a more logic number sequence, but let us wait to see what our "professionals" have created this time?? :D:D

  8. Apparently they're going to send out another IRD signal on the night of 30th/31st Jan which should rectify the situation - we live in hope!

Ha, yeah I've seen the notice on UBC saying they're going to "revise and improve the channel numbering", after I spent ages revising and improving it myself. Oh well, guess I'll have to do it all over again, plus have another night with no TV. 6 hours just to rearrange the channels again, hope they get it right this time.

I feel for you.Must be frustrating but TIT :o

  9. It has been on and off for the last week. Sometime down for hours.

I am using a Dynasat F1. They seem to have less problems with the Angel box

    Same happened to me .

Lost it to-day around 19.30 but this time it was back within 45 minutes. :o
