  1. So eventually if that's the case and these gadgets are illegal...maybe they are diverting the metering to somebody elses' usage!...at some point the company who supplies ladykata with her electric are going to wonder why they are only getting 600 baht a month off her when she used to spend 3500 baht with them and will come knocking on her door to find out why and will no doubt find her using the illegal devices? She is effectively committing fraud and cheating the electric company out of their revenue right...or this magic box is sending some of her metering to some poor unsuspecting neighbour which again is fraud. She must be really gullible to think this magic box is going to reduce her bill so much without someone the other end noticing.

Or 3500 baht to 600 baht...to put it in laymans' terms...she's fiddling the meter bigtime!

    1. I lease a large house and aircon bottom floor 24/7 for 3500 baht a month electricity. That includes a washing machine and dryer, oven used frequently.

    2. You cannot reduce your electric bill with any device local to your "fuse box" without reducing your usage. Period. Unless someone has repealed Ohms law and/or the power formula.

Who installed this device for you?

  2. Yes, through Bangkok. Surin is in Isaan, about 400 km from Bangkok and 100 km from nearest Cambodian border.

Can take train or bus from Bangkok.

  3. Please forgive if you consider this a hijack. I like boiled eggs also, but takes too long.

I poach them in the microwave. Takes 1 minute (adjust for your tastes),

    Very small bowl, rounded bottom

    spray with cooking spray

    crack 1 egg in each

    Add about 2 tsp water

    poke yolk with toothpick

cover and cook on medium high for 1 minute

pour out water and slide egg onto plate.

  4. U.S. websites such as amazon and many others accept u.s. credit cards. Most do not ship many items to Thailand. Clothing, etc ok, but shipping, handling and customs charges can be exorbitant.

    Electrical appliances no.

    Video games, very few

Books ok but very heavy for shipping.

amazon has great delivery but may come in many batches over time.

  5. I have been having problems with Windows 7 freezes since I bought a new PC in February.

    HP Pavillion P6185L

    Interl Core2 Quad CPU @ 2.67 GHz

    4 GB RAM

    1 TB HDD

NVIDIA GeForce GT220 1 GB graphics card

Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit

Here is where I originally posted on the forum about my problems.

There may be some tips there that you could try to alleviate your problem.

I have since given up and now just live with it... :)

I had same problem with identical new machine, but on WinXP. After much thrashing around by the vendor, they finally called out HP Technician on free home service. Took him 6 hours of diagnostics and never duplicated the problem. He finally gave up and installed a new GT220 Video card.

Took my word for the crashes, no charge for home service. No problems since.

  6. A few constructive criticisms:

A large number of foreigners were left in the dark due to total lack of english translations during the street riots and shootings.

Film clips were shown over and over again with no reference to being live or file footage, giving viewers a continuity of violence that did not exist.

Very poor video coverage of important events, such as the army sniper shooting a red guard sniper, 10 shooters being reported as being on a building rooftop, with no followup. Did the army surround the building and capture the 10?

No explanation of why the government forces didn't take back the several blocks of territory evidently abandoned by the redshirts.

Reports of 300-400 police standing around smoking and joking and taking cell phone photos of Central World being torched. True or not?

Any investigations ongoing regarding police activity and non activity during the conflicts?

These are but a few. I trust these issues will be attended to when they get more and better information and witness start flipping their comrades.

  7. Having followed Thai politics, read the history and lived here for many years I have my own opinions in this regard. I have never criticized government authorities either, chosing to leave opinions to my Thai wife.

In this case however, I will make an educated prediction on the fate of the redshirt leaders and their facilitators.

After several weeks, the door to their rooms/cells will be left open, they will receive a pardon, an obscure law will be called upon or they will get bailed and they will disappear. After much hand wringing and accusations, the new government will declare amnesty in the interest of unification of the country and life will go on, and on, and on. Theirs will be a much richer life however.

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

  8. My apologies to the forum member who associated the Asian Times with Sondhi. After more research, I see I need to clarify my accusations.

Sondhi was indeed one of the founders of the Asian Times. The newspaper however, folded 12 years ago even before his problems with Mr. T.

It was taken over by former employees, is published in Hong Kong and has an extensive British staff. A detailed reading of its articles will demonstrate a lack of bias in their articles, the comments on Thailand being a small part of their content.

I must say however, I believe an offhand comment trying to tie Sondhi to the article was disingenous at best.

And I do not consider Sondhi any more legitimate than the red shirt leaders.

Suppose you geniuses advise all of the factions how you would stop the vote buying and corruption both at the national and village levels. That might actually be helpful.

  9. Do tell us why you believe a single word of a publication founded by Sondhi Limtongul?

    I wouldn't.

Also wouldn't believe any article by you that would put forward an outright lie about who founded, or even contributes to this wholly Chinese published printed and online newspaper.

You are a liar, and a stupid one at that. Anything you write to this forum needs to be suspect from now on. This is one of the few decent forums left.

    Stay out you troll.

  10. Difficult for me to criticize this moron just in terms of being a Brit. We Americans have Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, Michael Savage and Terry Hannity. All have their own tv programs and making millions stirring up the uneducated with outright lies and political and religious nonsense.

And they can afford to pay the Michigan and other militias in case they need to take over Washington DC.

  11. The OP states he is going back to the U.S. "for a few weeks" only. Buy in Thailand and get the warranties here. I bought a new gaming HP PC for less than $1000 here with legal windows XP, monitor and keyboard. Had a free home service call from HP tech regarding a video card problem. He installed new one. No charges for parts or labor. Deals are even better now.

  12. Of course it was the reds. They have threatened this. Red shirt apologists, you should be ashamed.

Where is your proof that the red shirts are responsible? You're ASSUMING. Don't confuse people with lies before you have facts, please. Nobody knows who attacked who tonight. Nobody knows who launched the bombs.

The red shirts are doing exactly what they have threatened for weeks. Sae Daeng openly bragged on the microphone that the commanders were neutralized. No one has yet proven who is carrying out the attacks. I would suspect both sides and other sides.

The army commander who was shot in the head was one of tens of thousands of people on the streets. Maybe it was suicide?

The red shirts promise to stay until parliament is dissolved. Hey Che. Try that with Fidel.

  13. Sorry, but my opinion would be negative. You don't mention having resources to obtain a car, mortgage and schooling for the child. Based solely upon a teachers salary, you could not maintain the lifestyle you indicate would be necessary. A teachers salary will hardly support a single person living in a very moderate apartment.

Unless your wife had a university degree, she would have little chance of working for more than minimum wage, which is 5-6000 baht per month. Moderate schooling would be private schools and these are in the 100,000 baht range per semester.

Of course, all things are possible depending on the lifestyle you would accept. If you expect anything like the situation you would have in the western world you will be sorely disappointed. Even Japanese cars here are 50% more expensive than in the states for example. Cable TV, and high speed internet are comparable in price to that in the western world. Auto insurance is reasonably cheap and street food is also. With the exchange rate as it is, you would have a very difficult time on the budget you outline.

In my opinion, you would need some supplemental income of at least another 30k baht per month, if not more. And a good deal of patience in dealing with your potential employers.

  14. I guess it depends on the business... 8 D

I am thinking of setting up a discount shuttle service from Samui Airport and Nathon pier. Would that be a good idea, or would I be treading on toes?. :)

Possibly take a 30 year lease on a vacant lot, buy a fleet of tuk tuks and just sit back a relax at the bar while the money rolls in. Shouldn't bother anybody. After all, you are bringing business to the vendors.
