  3. This has probably been asked many times before, but anybody have tips on how to call UK mobile phones for cheap>?

Am using Skype which is working out to be about 11-15/pence/min so not that cheap

I have a True Inter-SIM, but even that doesn't seem to be that cheap (I haven't worked out the rate, but I never talk for long before my credit runs out)

What are the best calling card options?

    Any other suggestions? most welcome

  4. Followed the above posters instructions, and just successfully got myself a multi non-imm 'O' based on marriage.

I am a British national female and supplied these docs:

    - Copy of marriage cert (signed by both parties)

    - Copy of husband's house register (blue book) (signed by him)

    - Copy of husband's id card (signed by him)

    - Copy of my Thai bank account book showing 100+k (signed by me, the latest transaction and date showing on the book was 4days before the date I applied for my visa)

    - Letter in English written by husband, requesting for visa to be issued so we can live together as husband+wife (signed by him)

    - Same letter as above, but in Thai (signed by him)

The clerk glanced at all the docs very quickly, she didn't take more than about 5secs to look at them , then asked for the money

I had the original marriage and cert and bank book, but these were not requested

Don't forget to keep the ticket+receipt she hands back to you, you will need that the next day when you go pick up your passport

The embassy is a very easy 10min walk from Ampang park city LRT station (not to be confused with 'Ampang station' which is on another line)

Exit the station and walk straight down the road, in the opposite direction from the Bank of China

  5. Thanks, Lite Beer, I was hoping the date won't be a problem.

Really hope it won't be as don't want it to be a wasted trip

I know sometimes authorities can be very picky over minor things like this

I am a British national female. I also have bank statements showing 100k and have signed them

I know that I can get an extension in Thailand, but I kind figured its easier to get a 1yr multi-entry ( i actually don't mind the visa runs strangely enough)

as I don't want the hassle of going to immigration and the extension process.

I'm sure I'll probably need to do this at some point, but for now would like to put it off for a year, and just put up with visa runs instead ?!

  6. Flying to KL early tomorrow morning, to apply for multi-entry Non-Imm 'O' , based on marriage

got all the docs, the only thing is, my spouse has signed all the copies (wedding cert, his id card, his house book, his bank statement)

BUT he has also dated them 15th January

Will the date be a problem? He's gone to work, and won't be back before I fly out tomorrow morning, so I can't get him to sign again

How picky will KL embassy be about this?

  7. This could be a life saver for me after my recent marriage visa fiasco.

I'm off to KL tomorrow. Sorry to be naive, but where exactly do you make this application, and how long does it take to process your application ???

    Many thanks

This link might help - the Thai embassy in Kuala Lumpur

    http://www.mfa.go.th/web/1321.php?depid=220

I believe you apply one day (in the morning) 09.30-13.00 and pick up next day at 14.30

  8. Am a female British passport holder, married to Thai national

I am deciding whether to opt for the multi or single entry Non-O based on marriage in KL

I may have the impression that applying for this 1yr extension is more troublesome than it is, but it does sound like a pain

Visa runs to Mae Sai every 3mths sound easier to me (I don't actually mind this trip oddly enough)

If I apply for the 1yrs extension based on marriage at CM Immigration, when I am in the 1yr extension itself, if I need to exit the country do I need a re-entry permit?

  9. Was that the marriage cert, proof of income/savings and the standard passport photos? Anything else asked for?
I brought along marriage certificate (certified by the MFA) house register of my wife, ID card of my wife, passports ( mine and my wifes and copies of it) I did bring along also my bank book which they never ask for, passport photos ( 2 ) a letter of my wife asking the embassy to issue me a visa, I also included some old statements of money transactions from overseas to thailand. Business register of my wifes business, and I also brought my wife along which made a big different in my opinion.

The marriage cert needs to be certified by MFA too? I am assuming this is for marriage certs issued in foreign countries (ie: if you got married in the UK/USA). A marriage cert issued by an amphur in Thailand, is the final doc and does not need to further certified I presume?? (although the Thai marriage cert does look you could easily replicate it on microsoft publisher with the flowery border lol).

  10. Hi, can anyone recommend any gyms in the Hangdong area, I live in the World club mooban of Grace Intl school (GIS)

I had read online about California gym in Airport plaza, went to check it out but, really did not like the general manager (GM) there

The staff first told me it was a monthly fee of 3,500bt which was a fixed price for everybody, I said this was over my budget, then they called the GM and she was quite rude and offered me 1,500bt/month, but due to the way she rudely offered it to me, I got up and left, they were quite pushy and almost had me pinned to the seat, it was difficult for me to make an exit!. (and so the 3,500bt is not fixed price after all!)

Anyhows, am now looking for other gyms close to me

Went to ask at GIS, but the landowners of World Club moo baan, apparently sold the gym to GIS, (even though at the time my husband's family bought the house in this moo ban they were promised lifetime membership at this gym - then they revoke this promise/membership -welcome to Thai laws)

So , back to square one...still looking for gyms as need to exercise!

P.S Just out of curiosity, has California gym had a 're-fitting' ? as I seem to remember it looking different/much bigger a couple of yrs ago?

  11. Under Thai Law (Sin somros and Sin Suan tua) any assets

    - acquired before marriage and

    - any inheritance received during marriage

remain sole property of the individual, not communal property of the couple ( http://thailandlitigationlawyer.com/asset-settlement-law-in-thailand )

As a registered marriage at the amphur, is legally valid in the UK

Can anyone tell me, what the UK law is on assets? is it the same as Thai law?

ie - Do assets acquired before marriage, and inheritance received during marriage also remain sole property?

    thanks

  12. Does anyone know if I can buy those acupressure bracelets (that help with car sickness) here in Thailand? And more specifically Chiang Mai ??

I often take friends on the Mae Hong Son Loop, and the 1,864 curves on this does tend to cause car sickness for a lot of people!

I have never actually used them, and not sure how effective they are, but I find that many people don't like taking oral pills for car sickness due to side effects of drowsiness so maybe these bracelets are worth a try

If anyone has found these bracelets to be effective and if you have any suggestions for brands/types, would be good to hear from you
