Its a double storey house

I'm looking to buy a house, in a development by http://kkn.co.th in Chiang Mai. The house is built using 'Cast-in-place' does anyone know what this is?
There are 2 small bathrooms adjacent to each other, and I asked if I could knock down the wall between them to make 1 large bathroom. The saleslady said I'd have to ask the engineers that built the house, because its built differently (not using bricks?) but rather one large piece of concrete?
Anybody know what this means? Also, if I did make 1 bathroom from 2, do you think this would devalue the house ? (one of the bathrooms is an ensuite)
Thanks

Hi all, I know this has probably been asked before, but I've been in CM a few years already and looking to generate extra side income for the long term.
Import/export business seems to be a good bet in CM. I like the idea of exporting handicrafts, although not sure how to break into the market or find buyers ? I know this has been a popular business option for foreigners here, wonder if the market is still good for this?
Anybody have any tips/experience in doing this? I'd also consider buying a small business that was already established.

I currently live in Hangdong and am looking to buy a house in the Hangdong area. I know there are lots of villages/ developments, for example Baan wangtan near big C is popular with expats, and a new village next to it (muu baan brataanaa), there are a lot of new villages/developments springing up, and I wonder how I can find the names /where these villages are?

As time will be tight, and I'm travelling in rush hour, think I will pay more and get a taxi, cos these must be faster than the shuttle bus. What is the taxi system in the international arrivals floor? Where and how is the best place to get one?

I'll be arriving from London at Swampy, approx 6pm on a Monday. I have an Air Asia flight departing DMK at 9pm to Chiang mai. Is this going to be enough time for me to get from Swampy -Dmk. Where is best to get a taxi? what kind? Approx how much will it cost? Thanks

Primark, also have a small baby section, lots of cheap baby clothes there, quality not bad either

Thanks folks, looks like a steriliser it is then. If the Thais don't use the mashed food in bottles, then what are they feeding them instead? Bit surprised about the fires and blankets, thought it would be too hot in this heat. Am actually more worried about the baby being hot in this heat, rather than cold?

We're expecting our first baby next year, and starting to look around for baby stuff. I'm in the UK now for a month, and was wondering if there was any baby stuff that we'd be better off buying over here (UK) rather than Thailand. Any items that are better value/quality here vs. Thailand? In particular, not sure what breast pump to go for, and am questioning if I need a bottle steriliser. I live in CM, and are mostly around Thai country folk. Is it me, or have I never seen them sterilise bottles? I've never seen the locals with steriliser machines, or is it me? If the locals aren't using them, is it really need?

Thanks. Yes, I figured it would be difficult to find any coverage, but I'll ask AA on the off-chance. I'll be 5mths pregnant when I fly back to Thailand, wonder if any UK insurance companies can offer anything for the return leg (even though haven't been living there for many years). More for peace of mind than anything.

Hi, I'm a British national currently living in Chiang Mai, and just found out I'm pregnant. Earlier this year, I booked tickets to fly back home to the UK for a 1mth trip, and so I'm now looking for any travel insurance that will cover me, in case anything happens on the journey there. I wonder if any company will cover me, seeing as this is a 'pre existing condition'? Also I'm due to fly 7th Sep. Thanks

DavidMavec, would it be possible for you to send me the sheets you have? I'm also trying to get my head round the consonant cluster rules, I have bits of information/rules from different places, would be great if there was one scrib sheet that had everything, in a easy to understand format- if such a document out there exists?
I learned the classes in a totally different way; each consonant follows a medium, high, or low rule, there are three groups. If it leads by ห (e.g. หล่อ) it will follow the high group (หล่อ would thus be pronounced with a low tone but ล่อ would be a falling tone since ล belongs to the low group.
In terms of clusters, there is a list of words where this is the case as well, for example, สมอง, whereas because ส is in the high group, the มอง syllable is pronounced rising, whereas if it were not there, มอง would be pronounced with a mid-tone because it belongs to a different group.
There are some exceptions but there are very few.
I am not sure if this is making sense to you, but the way I have learned has let me know the proper tone quite fluently by reading the word, after a good deal of practice of course. I have some sheets I could send you if you would find them useful -
Any suggestions for where to get my eyes tested? I think I need glasses for driving, so wanted to have my sight checked out. There's heaps of those 'Top Charoen' shops, would it be wise to go to one of those? I once went to an eye-glass shop in BKK, and I think she tested me wrong, and I ended up buying glasses that were too strong for me and too tight!

So what do people who are awaiting an extension for say, based on marriage do, if they are refused and their waiting period is up?
Yes, I would like to know the answer to this too, as i might face this situation. If you are refused, do you have to leave the country that same day? or ???

Thanks for the other side of the story Nancy. I'll check out all options. On a side note, is it clear or not, whether having a yellow book does indeed entitle you to government hospital care here?

I use Bupa Thailand as well . I have the Emerald plan . Checked around and like you the life insurance attached to these policies made them very un attractive . The agent I used is out of the office near Lana Hospital email is Rujira Jidpayuck [email protected] was very good to deal with . I never spoke to them all was done via email and I was very pleased with the service .... They will also allow you to pay monthly which most other companies will not .... Hope this helps
Thanks so much. It's very useful, I will drop her an email now

We use BUPA through a local agent. Depending on package your costs would be around 6,000 tp 17,000 per annum.
Thanks could you post or pm me the details of your local agent? Many thanks

Hi can anyone recommend a good health insurance company? with preferably an English speaking broker. I've heard AIA are good. I'm looking for basic coverage which doesn't have too many of the clauses, and will just pay out if needed. I did enquire once with a local AIA broker, but their programs are tied with life insurance which I don't necessarily need, as I don't have any dependents. Am 30+yrs and in good health. Thanks.

Any recommendations for companies that do logo stickers on cars? reasonably priced? i was quoted 2,000bt for one medium sized logo+text.

I think I just need somebody to find tenant. The house is in muu baan pla tanna (not sure correct spelling) but its in Ban Wangtan, nearby Big C Airport

I have a house to rent, if I don't manage to find tenants myself, am thinking of using an agency. Does anyone have recommendations for reputable agencies?
Chiangmaihouse.com and ChiangMaiProperties seem to be well known ones. Seems like going rate is 1mths rent for 1yrs contract. Thanks

Thank you Lite-beer!

Just wanted to check that if I have exited then re-entered the country on a re-entry permit, I don't have to report until 90days after the date that I entered the country again (and not the original 90day deadline that was set).

The recent internet outage seems to taken with it multiple posts on this thread.
That's strange I can't see the multiple posts on here.
'Cast-in-place' homes - what is this?

Thanks. The house we're looking at is also 3bedrooms, 3bathrooms. It's because the 2 upstairs bathrooms are so small, that i would prefer to have 1 large bathroom and possibly (somehow) fit a bathtub in. Yes, sure, we'll definitely ask the construction company, I don't want to go breaking the house.
Sorry what does 'The walls are all poured with the electrical conduits already in place.' actually mean? This is a new village in Hangdong, opposite the house it looks like a mass construction site with a lot of building work going on, where the next phase of the village is yet to be finished.
