Any reviews out there for Expat Auto CM? I'm looking for a used Toyota Sports Rider. I wonder if buying from Expat Auto compared to a large Thai car tent, means I can feel more assured about quality of car etc. as they inspect+repair the car, I guess to 'farang' standards?? Any experiences much appreciated

If you are on the electoral role you MUST sign the form sent to you or you are liable for a fine upto 1000 (get your dad to do it)
Thats if its your property or you are responsible for it, if living with parents then the form is completed for the household and upto your Dad who he puts on it for council tax/electoral purposes etc.
Oh right, thanks CharlieH. How often do they send this form? I don't even know if I'm on the electoral role.

If you're in Thailand you would not receive the letter unless they mailed it to your Thai address. So no problem.
yeah, but that's my point. My parents are taking care of my mail in UK, but sometimes they go abroad too, and something could go amiss. I just don't want to miss something that I need to reply to/declare to, and get in trouble for this

Hi, I am a female UK national. I have been living in Thailand since 2008, and have visited the UK about once/2yrs for a month each time. I was wondering, do I need to do anything about my name on electoral polls? What happens if the local council send a letter? I vaguely remember this happening a few years back, but my father replied for me (mentioned something about being prosecutable by law if not??!). Any mail currently goes to my parent's address. For example, what would happen if I get a letter calling me for jury service? Would I be obliged to reply to that?

I'm using Sutat at 777designz. and have to agree his work is great (just as good as any western designer). It took me several attempts to get hold of him, but I think that's because he's so busy with a lot of work and clients - because his work is good!

Its a broken window so we're not talking small pieces or bottles that can be put in the trash. I left the broken panes by the trash to see if the collectors would take it, but they didn't. Then we moved them next to the trash bin on the opposite side of the street, and 3 of the 4 panes have disappeared (collectors took them)? So go figure.......

Is there anywhere (like a dump?) that I can safely dispose of broken glass? I broke a window, and not quite sure how to dispose of the pieces. Tried asking the Thai household members, who seem to think there are no designated places for this, one even suggested that he'll take it to the forest as nobody goes there, so don't worry nobody will get hurt from it (?!) shocking I know. Our local recycling place doesn't take broken glass either. Btw I'm in Hangdong, thanks

Blue diamond restaurant in the old city, also stock small packets of Chia seeds for around 200bt

Any recommendations for where to get colour protection done for a car and car detailing? Btw I'm in Hangdong. Thanks

I'm asking for my Thai husband, who's lost his current passport (which may have expired anyways), but has his old passport. Anyone know if it would be easy to obtain a new one for him? We live in Chiang Mai. Thanks

I'm asking on behalf of a friend who's coming to CM for dental work. Does anyone have experience of Dental 4u? http://www.dentaldepartures.com/dentist/dental-4-u/ or any recommendations for good reliable dentists here? Thanks

Hi Ladies. I am married to a Thai male who is a self-employed tour guide. He doesn't have a company or sole proprietorship. Just a license from TAT (Tourism authority Thailand) allowing him to open a small office and run tours. If I wanted to work for him, doing the English language marketing side of things, how would we go about applying for a work permit? Thanks

I am wondering how difficult this will be. I'm a foreigner married to a native Thai male. He is tour guide and self-employed. He doesn't have a company or sole proprietorship. Just a license from TAT (Tourism authority Thailand) allowing him to open a small office and run tours. If I wanted to work for him, doing the English language marketing side of things, how would we go about applying for a work permit? Thanks

Has anybody tried getting a residency certificate from CM Imm recently? I believe they were issuing these before, but I tried about a month ago and they said they currently weren't issuing them (something about changes in regulations) and that if I wasn't in a hurry, to wait and maybe they could in the future. Its for a driving license application.

I'm due for my next 90day report in CM, on 19th June. Can I go a few days before this? I presume I just go there and fill out one of their TM forms and thats it?
nothing else required?

Hi, we ended up buying e-cigs off the guy below. One set is 3,500bt, and liquid is 300bt/bottle. But if you buy a set of liquid ie; 5 bottles it works out cheaper at something like 1,000bt.
He sells duracigs and yes he doesn't speak any English.
3,500bt might seem higher than others available on the market (I've seen prices around 1,500-2,500bt) but we were in a hurry to get one, and my friend hasn't had a cigarette in about a week now, so no complaints so far.
This small auto accessory place sells them.
They are not the small ones that look like cigarettes but larger pen size.
The guy does not speak English.

Ground floor Central airport plaza still sells them. tried it didn't liked it , back to cigarettes now.
Cheers, do you know whereabouts on the ground floor ? I haven't seen any shops there that look like they might sell e-cigarettes ?

Well, I'm very glad that Dr. Mann did such a good job.
Silly question, but where and how would one see a doctor/gp here first? In the UK you would go to your local health clinic to see a doctor, but the system seems to be different here, as people just go straight the hospital. Or maybe there are private health clinics here where I could consult with a doctor first? thanks
-
Does anyone know anywhere in Chiang Mai where I can buy those E-cigarettes or any reputable sites online? Its for a friend who's trying to give up.
Cheers

Lots of helpful replies, thank you. Did not realise the potential risks with CAT scans, is this the same for x-rays? For a 50+ long time heavy smoker, is it recommended to get x-rays regularly? (annually or?)
I wouldn't be eager to get a CT scan unless the risk factors clearly indicated it was necessary. By some estimates as much as 2% of the cancers in the US may be caused by CT scans. And for US women maybe as much as 6% of breast cancers.on this subject if you are over 50 and have been a long time smoker it is a good idea to have a cat scan however this sceening is a costly.
Here's an article by a doctor on the subject:
http://www.slate.com/articles/double_x/doublex/2012/08/ct_scans_and_cancer_is_your_doctor_increasing_your_risk_with_all_that_medical_imaging_.htmlThis link is not to an article by a doctor but rather to a mass media site which reports on several studies, and, as is usually the case, gets some of it wrong. Specifically the percentages cited have no clear validity.
But, it is definitely true that radiation exposure increases the risk of cancer, unnecessary radiation exposure should be avoided and also that CTs are particularly high in radiation compared to other imaging methods.
And indeed, CTs are not recommended as a screening tool, for smokers or anyone else. If a Chest Xray or ultrasound showed a lesion then yes, CT might be indicated. But not as an initial screen.

Hi, thanks ...wow didn't know that they might not find money from their fellow countrymen welcome. Surely the farang market in CM is not substantial enough for them to cater only for farang and ignore the Thais. I'm edging towards Sripat, may give it a try and post our experience on here
Sawasdee Khrup, Mja1906,
Please do review the pinned thread here on medical resources, maintained by Khun Tywais, which was revised May 3: there's a very complete description of Sriphat's structure there: http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/513012-recommended-doctors-and-medical-specialists/#entry6364053
In the past, Sriphat (the administrative unit foreigners must use that "interfaces" with the public hospital Maharaj ... frequently referred to as "Suan Dok" because it's near the famous Royal Wat, Wat Suan Dok, on Thanon Suthep) has offered a variety of health-exam "packages," starting around 2k baht, and running much higher, as they include tests like cardio-stress. Last time I saw their list of "packages," a few years ago, which was available in both Thai, and English, the highest cost package was about 6k baht.
I assume, but do not know for a certainty, that a Thai who walked into Sirphat's office, would find their money welcome.
If your friend is a Thai citizen, then they can, of course, get lower-cost health-care at Suan Dok Hospital. But, before anyone splurges on a bunch of tests, it is probably wise to see a GP first, and, depending on age, lifestyle, diet, current problems, past problems, etc., decide what needs testing.
good luck, ~o:37;

Hi, any suggestions for a hospital for an overall health check for 50ys male? I have seen these health check programs advertised at Ram, Siripat, etc.... Is there any difference between them? Also its for a Thai citizen, so do the government hospitals also offer the same kind of checks for older people?

I am seeking a freelancer/company to help migrate a basic website from an old CMS to wordpress. I would like to re-build and re-design the site, but most important is that migration is performed so that search engine rankings are maintained and is SEO optimised
PM if you are interested. Thanks
