God, if that's happy hour, what's miserable hour like? :)

  2. Thank you for posting that link, yumidesign. In the past, whenever I've drawn stories like this to the attention of Thai friends, wife etc, they either squirm uncomfortably or say something that implies that, as a Westerner, I'm "soft" and unaware of the underlying reasons for such behaviour; i.e. Thai authority is always right.

  3. I, too, hate to see elephants in towns and cities or trudging along the side of busy roads. However, I think that a scheme of buying-back from the owner, no matter how well-intentioned, would probably just result in even more elephants being taken out of their natural habitat.

  4. I think everbody has their periods of being pissed off with the place that they live in. I have been here for four years, and I have thought about relocating a couple of times as it can get frustrating here at times. However, I am generally happy here, and if it did eventually really get to me then I would leave. I miss a few things about home, and things like the cretinous BIB and politicans here in Thailand can sometimes get right on my nerves, but I made a choice to come here, and I have a choice to leave.

Yep, quite agree. As long as there are more ticks in the "Reasons to Stay" column than the "Reasons to Leave" one, I'm going nowhere. Yes, I frequently get jarred-off with Thailand; I never was naive enough to believe that it would be heaven on Earth. But it's nowhere near bad enough for me to consider leaving. But who knows what the future might hold?

  5. Introduce her to decent bedding, might not stop the buying but at least it might stop her from buying the embarrassing cartoon quilts when she sees what is available in adult designs in places like homepro. They have some really beautiful sets, fitted sheets, pillow cases & duvet covers. :D

Yep; agree with you, Boo. They're not the cheapest in town but their bedding is good. 100% cotton and tasteful, not bloody polyester with a design that looks like someone threw-up all over your bed. Have you seen those TOTO bedding ads on the telly? Jeez! :)

  6. My MIL has a glass-fronted cabinet full of new triangle cushions, probably in case royalty drop in for a cuppa and want to stay the night :D

Wife has not inherited such traits, thank goodness.

Yep. That seems to be pretty much the norm with that generation. My MIL's the same. :)

  7. why is it I worry

65 people have read this site

    1 answered

Does this mean only 1 in every 65 farlang are interested in True Traditional Thai ways

They other have a one set mind SEX

    Please prove me wrong

    I was hoping for more like 60 / 40

Coo. True, traditional and Thai in the same sentence.

You don't happen to work for TAT, by any chance?

    :)

  8. Well, have you considered the notion that maybe posters are just not that interested in your topic?

I think it's a big jump from, "Ooh, not many people replied." to "Ah, so they must all be sex maniacs.".

Apart from Onnut, of course. :)

  9. Police are unable to follow rules and laws.

    Anyone surprised?

Nope. Also the situation in Thai schools and colleges, I'm afraid. I can think of a couple of examples in my own place and several more in my wife's college. Certain spectacularly untalented individuals pass their government teaching exams with flying colours. One discovers later that they just happen to have an uncle, say, who works at the ministry.

Thailand; the country behind that old truism of "It's not what you know, it's who you know". Makes the heart glad, doesn't it? :)

  10. :D When you said 'real' scooter I thought you meant a Lambretta.. Oh well :)

Don't know where you'd get a maxi scooter though.. only seen a couple in Pattaya they seem quite rare..

Yeah, quite. I'd love to track down a reasonable Lambretta here, Series 3 preferably. I see plenty of Vespas around but... :D

  11. Well, there's going to be an addition to the household in December-ish and I'm thinking back to all the stuff I had to buy the last time this happened. Gulp.

But what about child seats over here? I can't remember ever having seen one in a Thai car although that doesn't exactly surprise me...

But are they actually available in Thailand?

Any help would really be appreciated! :)

  12. I really miss my Ducati Desmo 250 single, amongst others, and I thought that an SR500 would be a good basis for an interesting project. Do they come-up for sale over here? I've looked in a few places but no joy. I'd be willing to travel for a good 'un. I'm assuming (haha) that the parts would still be ok.

    Any ideas?
