  1. Hi again,

They cannot ever take my Wife or my Son off me. Lets see them try....

Just to be sure you realize, the 20 docs should be 10 for each year, split between you both including joint docs/accounts if you have them. Remember, they're trying to catch out cheaters, not make life difficult for genuine couples. They can't admit to what number of docs might be acceptable on the phone as it would then be pointless asking for 20 on the form.

I've got friends who had only the mortgage in joint names, and for other docs probably less than you've listed who were successful. Me and my wife had less than the full 20, but have a daughter and her birth cert details and child benefit letter which must help greatly. Maybe you should call and check again in case they need the original of the birth cert as I can't remember if I gave a copy or not. From experience of myself and friends, I think your list of docs is sufficient.

  2. There is no way I have 5 docs from each year. Most are from 2007 and 2008 as I said in my name not my Wifes. The fact is its impossible for me to do whhat they ask. Covering letters is my only option!

    Thanks All

  3. Hiya Guys,

a little update on this thread. The docs I have together are a letter from the local authority, virgin bill, doctors letter stating how long my Wife has attended the surgery, Wifes NI card, Wifes NHS card, Child Benefit letter, dentist appointment card posted, letter from employer about my pension, bank letter for Son, yearly travel insurance doc, Health Protection Agency letter, NI letter, doctors letter for son.

I have also included letters from my self explaining why most bills ect are not in my Wifes name. Also included are PHOTOCOPY of Son's Birth Cert from BKK embassy and Passport, is a copy ok is it better to put the originals?

surely this must help! Some are from 2006, most 2007 and 2008. Any comments welcome....

  4. Hiya All,

my Wife passed her Life in the UK test today, so that changes my ballgame again last minute.

Ok I do not have all 20 Docs needed for the evidence. I gathered some bank letters etc together but they are basically the same and recently dated. Got one off my Doctor stating dates she attended...What can I do? Can I get refused on this after being married and having our son?

  5. I think there were a number of people who stated that Qatar were selling cheap flights at Central World over the weekend, it was clearly stated that as usual with this type of promotion it was time bound, as it was with Singapore Airlines recently.

The poster might not have been telling the truth, as might the others that posted that they were able to take advantage of the offer, but it seems a bit far fetched that they should tell lies regarding a promotion in such a public location.

Why he should have to prove himself by uploading the ticket details I really don't know.

They dont have to do anything but he already bought and it would have helped others if he would reveal the dates. The best i could find was the same as posted here. By the way gov ,I opened a thread and its still current. I found a flight fro syd-malaysia for $112 aud and I revealed how to find it rather than make people punch in 100 diff dates. can you not see the logic in that?

Though I don't want to get into an argument I can see the logic of that very different scenario, what I couldn't understand is why you got so upset when the other chap wouldn't upload his ticket details, though I admit that I didn't read what he said, when his was an in store promotion rather than online - where you have to punch in the dates.

I was a bit fed upset that I missed the promotion.

This is the last of this conversation on my part. I didnt get upset he sent a disgusting PM so I exposed him on the thread and the mods banned him NOT ME. Now maybe I got it wrong and it wasnt an online thing but he should have pointed that out. Why are you commenting when you didnt even read it... anyway Im unsubscribed here and moving on.

I wouldnt unsubscribe now you nearly have 500 posts. Bedlam offers cheap flights for people wired to the moon. :o

  6. As a resident of Thailand and a visitor to the UK as long as your trips are as a visitor, you can use your Thai license (12 months max). A International Driving Permit is not recognised in the UK. It also has to be translated into English (Thai license).

All the points made are by the DVLA, whom I just got off the phone from.

  7. So is it possible to use the IDP in the EU member countries....and if so how long is it valid. Also can you use the Thai license and if so for how long?

Also what is the "paperwork" needed for the application?

Thanks for all your replies. :o

I am unsure by the wording of the OP but yes its very possible to get a Thai IDP based on your full thai license for use outside of Thailand.

They wont issue one on your 1 year 'provisional' Thai DL.. Only the 5 year 'full' Thai DL..

I got mine by doing all the paperwork at my local office in Phuket, they check everything but it still goes to BKK and takes 6 or so weeks. You need the forms (at my local office) photos, a post office money order, self address envelope that sort of thing.

I strongly suspect this could be a royal struggle at a baan nok transport office upcountry.

  8. Hi Rj,

I am confused again by this...6 days and she can get ILR? My local college states it will be from now until June and then she will take her exam then? Also the course has to include citizenship and the UK test has tobe taken after that?

From what you are saying she can do a 6 day course and then apply for ILR without taking the test, then later apply for citizenship. I feel that tobe to easy from what facts the college and people have given me?

    :o

    Hi folks

Today the missis passed her ESOL course. It was a verbal exam in which she had to answer questions posed by the lady who came down from the home office. Then they had to have conversations with each other about various different everyday life situations.

In total she had to attend college for 6 full days plus a day yesterday for revision and today for the exam itself. The teacher said she would phone her a week on Friday with her actual score and she will receive her certificates 3 weeks from now. So for anybody in the same situation this course is definately worth it.

All thats left to do now is gather all our letters and bank statements in prep for applying for ILR. The teacher also said that if my wife wants to apply for British Citizenship (ie, British Passport) then she can do the second level of ESOL course as the one she has just undertaken was ESOL level 1. For British Citizenship, level 2 is required. Is this correct? Also can we apply for British Citizenship instead of ILR or at the same time as ILR, thus saving applying for it in the future? Cheers guys.

  9. Hi all

I am applying for Irish Citizenship through grandparent descent as my Grandmother was born in S.Ireland(ulitimately to get EU visa). The documents I have are :

    Grandmothers:

    British Passport.

    Birth Cert

    Marriage Cert

in relation to myself it is not very clear what I need to send? ie. passport, marriage cert? Also when if I get my citizenship is thier any time restrictions on applying for EU visa when you just aquire Irish citizenship.

    Thanks All :o

  10. Thanks for all your replies. The sites semm to advise that the places are "unclen" why is that? I have had tattoos in Thailand but it seems the traditional tattoos are warned against?

Are there any monks or tattooist in the U.K who do thai Style tattoos?

    Thanks :o

  12. Hi All,

thanks for all your replies. Ok MBJ, that clarifys it a little, so I do have time wooooo :D thought I maybe missed the bus! I think I will take the Irish by descent route and see if it is possible.

My Grandmother is from Southern Ireland, however now she lives in the UK and has for sometime, holding a UK passport, does that matter?

    :o

  13. Hi all,

my Wife is currently on a settlement visa which expires in June. It has come to my attention that she may fail the Life in the UK Test and they do not offer an English course with citizenship in my area. I was going to apply for Irish Citizenship by descent and go for the EU Family permit, however it seems that that would not come through before June as there is a 6 month backlog!

What options do I have at this point if any?

    Thanks all :o
