  1. Prices here in Thailand seems to be cheaper than the UK, especially if you can get the education discount. But yes, they are expensive.

Wow.. then in the UK they must be really getting screwed. Prices in Thailand on tech is much much more expensive than in the US. If the UK is more expensive than Thailand then I truly feel for you brits.

Any reasoning why the prices are so high in the UK? I know in Thailand the reason is duty on imports.

It always seems to be the same on electronic gear, cameras etc. VAT is 20% but it seems, they just can.

Dude - it is not your fault. You know this. It is not your fault. It is not the Brits fault.

No, it's the Brit's fault for acting typically British.

No need for anything that might encourage a reply

    So long. Bite me.

Help me, I'm British, what is typically British?. I can then find out if I'm typically British ( English actually, but lived in Scotland for 20 years and have a Welsh Grandfather). I'd be very disappointed to find out that I'm not. It would give me sleepless nights. Please help

  3. Yeah this "he is married with a child and neither of them has visas to Britain ,how will he and indeed how would we manage in his shoes?" thing confuses me. So one of them is Falang, living in Thailand? Or is it a local Thai? If Falang (and British) why would he need a visa to his own country?

I think he means the wife and child do not have visas, fairly simple to work out

Nope. How about this; take your solidarity and compassion and shove it. I don't like it when Thais and Thailand is insulted. How about I throw some insults at the British people and see how you like it. The British like to dish it out, but they can't take it. You want to dish it out on this Forums about Thais, better trust and believe that I will dish it right on back to you. Solidarity and compassion my ass.

And since we are on the topic, I also must point out that the biggest whingers/complainers on this forum, and the most likely culprit to be making some type of derratory comment towards my country and my people are British. Like no other English speaking country comes close. The Americans don't whinge very much. The canadians (what few there are here) don't have many complaints. The Australians generally don't complain. Neither do the new zealanders. The Irish don't complain. The Scottish don't complain. There is one country that exports the largest amout of complainers to Thailand.

It's like a national past time for the English. They complain about Thailand. They complain about Britain. They complain about their food. They complain about the service. They complain about everything.

This turns me to my original post: if you don't like the way things are, you are free to leave and find someplace that you would be happier.

Well done, you've just shown you can stereotype with the best of them Congratulations! BTW British includes Scottish, Welsh and (maybe) northern Irish. English are those who live in England. Helps with the stereotyping

  5. I had this comment over a post about how in general Thais do not think ahead/what if. 'Go home'. Well sorry I won't go back to my land of birth, this is my home now I'm very happy here but, just like anywhere, ( my 'home' country, France etc ( joke)) there are frustrations. I thought chatting about them was one of the functions of a forum.

As someone commented on my earlier post, some people spend their lives running away, maybe they think we all should. If they think such a comment is helpful, maybe they should think again

  6. To linux user

"and I will not engage in a debate with people that do not program or use source code it's like debating biology with a creationist." A liittle arrogant don't you think?. So you would not discuss whether one car was better than another if the person talking did not understand the details of the engineering and just discussed the reliablity and ease of use?

No debate ,not interested in who makes what, who sues whom, who invented corners. Just want a computer that works well.

PS I used to work for Coke- it really is better then Pepsi, take my word for it!

  7. I just can't wait to buy the next iMac2012, ( hopefully within a month) sorry. My existing one is 5 years old, still going strong but not up to coping with modern NLE editing programmes. I just love how Macs 'just work' You boycott them if you like,
Mac is the easiest thing to use if you do not have good computer skills or you do graphic design or video editing but over all it is not a good product but it sure is pretty, not quite sure how a mouse with only one button works though seems like you're missing out on a lot of options with that flaw alone. You could always just run Linux on your old Mac, in fact Mac OS X is Linux copied poorly by Apple. I would never personally own any product from Apple simply based on the human suffering they have caused and continue to cause not to mention they lie about everything including what they did not invent like rounded corners and flat, soon they are going to try to patent the "square" and say they invented it.
It's a bit like driving a car, no need to be a mechanic and fix it regularly, just drive it. I have some computer skills, have to, my wife uses a PC and I have to 'maintain' it. I use a variety of mouses? (sic mice,?) two button, trackpad, a special one for editing. No need to run linux, don't want to, Mac OSX is fine for me and Adobe Premiere runs on it ( not fast I've only got a core duo, waiting for the new iMac). I suspect you are just a little biased.
Mac OS X is a cloned Linux kernel that is why it does not crash, although most of the tech that went into the kernel used in Mach Kernel was scraped and considered a failure, the kernel was developed at Carnegie Mellon University with grant money. I'm not biased at all I even mentioned if you do movie editing or graphic design Mac is the way to go it's the best for doing those things, I just would not buy one strictly based on the human rights violations Apple engages in as well as frivolous lawsuits they bring against the competition because they want attention. You have to admit Apple did not invent the shape of a telephone, nor did they invent "flat" or "rounded corners" well, unless you're a fanboy or an Apple Evangelist, very sad.

Telephones?corners? What are you on about? I've got an iMac, 5 years old, going well but too slow for modern editing. Reliable, brilliant image. I just want a new one. Brilliant product. Don't care who invented the OS, 'it just works' As I said, like a car I just drive it, don't spend my time under the bonnet ( ? hood?) trying to fix it.

  9. ( Just guessing but if you had had a nickel for every time someone asked you for help with a PC maybe you would be up with Warren Buffet now?)

Wouldn't happen to be due to the ratio of the number of PCs out there versus Apple would it? wink.png Also, to compare apples to apples, so to speak, then one would need to compare specific PC companies as Apple is one company. Some may have higher or equal reliability to Apple's some less.

Of course it does, just teasing!!!!biggrin.png

Is that why apple support is not a free included service with your purchase? Because the products "just work"?

If I had a nickle for every time an Apple user has asked me for support help on their device...... I might be able to buy a share of APPL.

But it is for 90 days. And yes 'they just work'. Over 5 years far fewer problems on the mac than with my wife's PCs. ( Just guessing but if you had had a nickel for every time someone asked you for help with a PC maybe you would be up with Warren Buffet now?)

  11. I normally transfer via SWIFT in GBP to BKK bank, get a very good exchange rate and only pay the SWIFT fee, no cost in BKK bank. Noramally arrives the next day!! ( ordered 3.30 pm day 1 arrives 10.00 day2!!!!!)

Think you will find that there is a fee - they just dont show it on the statement. If you check their TT rate on their website you will find that you appear to be getting a slightly inferior rate. You are not getting an inferior rate, it's just that they have deducted a fee. Last time I did a transfer of 5,000 GBP the fee was 475 baht. Maybe diffferent if what you are saying is that you transferred it entirely within the UK to the London branch of BKK bank. I agree that UK bank to BKK bank in Thailand is now normally next day, but 3:30pm is pushing it close to the limit.

3.30 pm here (9.30 UK time), no london BKK, straight to Thailand didn't compare the published rate with the actual on the day but little if any difference compared to the previous day's rate. Have done it twice now, same result.

Edit, have just read earlier replies, maybe 1/4% who knows, maybe only 500 Baht, but still far better than converting in the UK

  12. Thanks for adding my video Webfact

DEET (N,N-Diethyl-meta-toluamide). Chemical Technical Summary for Public Health and Public Safety Professionals. Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry

    http://www.atsdr.cdc...th-effects.html

Also i can understand the Thai media / Gov have tired to cover this up also Thai hotels have a habbit of spraying all rooms with this stuff and can make problems with breathing ..

I've taken the bit about ingestion here, helps get some idea of how much has to be ingested

    Ingestion of DEET

Rarely, people have ingested DEET intentionally to commit suicide, or because of psychological problems (Tenenbein 1987; Fraser et al. 1995). The effects resulting from intentional ingestion are variable, due to the different scenarios in which they occurred. Of the six reported cases of deliberate DEET ingestion, three led to death. In these cases, the amount ingested was 15-50 mL of 47.5% to 95% DEET in bottles. In two cases, bottles of DEET were drunk along with unspecified amounts of alcohol. Health effects included coma, unresponsiveness to pain and other stimuli, and death (Tenenbein 1987). In another case, a woman with a history of unipolar-depressive illness ingested a number of pills along with 50 mL of 95% DEET. She arrived at the hospital comatose and pulseless. She had a generalized seizure and died from a generalized bowel infarction (Tenenbein 1987). In another case, a woman with a history of psychological disorders ingested 15-25 mL of 95% DEET. She had a right and left atrial enlargement and diffuse ST-T abnormalities, but returned to normal within 24 hours with no further cardiac abnormalities (Fraser et al. 1995).

    Hope that's OK

  13. Terminator is right.

The 1317 road ( straight out of the Airport/Mahidol road over Don Chan flyover) will take you on the NEW Sankamphaeneg road to the cave at Mae On/hot springs ( about 25Km) up stairs, down stairs, big Buddha statue in the bottom of the cave, just a small cafe and small car park.

For the Umbrella factory, still take the 1317 but turn off at the intersection for Bo Sang, cross the traffic lights, the factory is on the right.

The Sa paper factories are at the back of Bo Sang, take any soi to the left and just wander. There are also one or two on the 'old' road which leads back into town.

  14. "I told supporters that the judicial process will lead to the Democrat government being penalised."

So he already knows the outcome? Either the judicial process has been interfered with to get the desired judgement or he has no idea how the judicial process works. I suppose it could be both actually.

He's got all the qualities needed for a cabinet post hasn't he?

Just like a quote from Alice in Wonderland ( or was it Alice through the looking glass?) From the Red Queen " Sentence first, verdict later"

  15. Err.. get used to it? wink.png

    Why should I?

Careful now - you will be told to leave Thailand soon due to your insolence of asking why logical thinking is a bad character trait here.

More likely to be a power trip thing from the guy with the actual key. If someone else has a key, he loses face in front of the boys so he clings onto that responsibility for dear life. I would hazard a guess that people have been shot here for meddling with someone elses key.

I have already, this quote from Semper

Because you are not living in your home country. As said above, get used to these things or relocate. smile.png

Amazing, you can live somehwere, like lots of things, but if you have a issue with something you are told to go home!
