  1. No matter what people ask on this site, there is always one person who wants to start being a freelance immigration officer and warning people off of doing anything within the country to help themselves make a few $!

I assume you are a non Thai person and do you have a work permit for the hill tribe tours? ( I think it is a prohibited occupation) and will have to sell accessories? If not you may find yourself in trouble, take care.

I'm not trying to be anything except helpful. If she is on the wrong side of the labour laws she risks deportation. Better to know about it before it happens. If a jealous Thai competitor drops her in it, problems. If she already knows about it, nothing lost. It's called help, I'm not setting myself up as anything. Stop being such a twit. Try putting the word 'illegal' in between 'anything' and 'within' and then see how foolish you look.

Who is going ot know ?

This is stupid to talk about work permit to sell online. Maybe more than 100000 people do it without a work permit...

So where does the 100,000 come from ? the top of your head or elsewhere? Are you saying there are more than 100,000 ? farangs? are selling on line in Thailand?

I agree that selling online is low risk, but if the business is high profile in trekking and comes a cropper, the whole pack of cards falls down.

So rather than being 'stupid' it's best to know about these things and take avoiding action before anything happens. ( I suspect they know already) I wish them well, but unlike you it seems, I'm only alerting them to possible risks.

You, I suppose would say' it's OK, no problems' (when in fact it is illegal and if the authorities want to get difficult they could), and walk away if anything happened.

Why don't you do something useful like water the garden

  2. If you don't pay, do you have to stand the whole way?

( A joke, but many years go on a domestic UK Dan Air flight I could not find a seat and the plane had started to taxi. I saw an empty seat and said to the air hostess "I'll sit there" "no" she said, "it's reserved"! . I still don't know if she expected me to stand, I sat down and hoped the plane was capable of flying. Dan air folded shortly after.)

  3. Don't forgot to mention another famous attraction, the Night Safari, just watch out for open drain holes as they are known to swallow up whole hippoptumus's. Still there are plenty of hotels for all budgets, its pretty vague what you are wanting...single,a family,a wife with billy lids in tow?

Plan for 4 days miniumum and don't blame me if your bored in 1 day ! Try some rafting/rent a bike and a tour to a hilltribe village, get the bus to Mai Sai and go to Myanamar and shopping for a day. Loads of things to do.

    I'm not leaving either.

I don`t recommend the night safari. It`s like a Belson concentration camp for wildlife. I`ve never been, never will.

You may enjoy it if you like shopping for souvenirs and experiencing the splendours of Tesco Lotus and Big C, and perhaps being a little more risqué and venturing into Makros.

For the DIY man, a visit to Global House and Home Pro is a must.

Make sure your hotel is comfortable for all the early nights you’re be having.

But please, don’t take my word for it, try it out first and let us have your report.

BTW, I’m still not leaving, because I actually like it here, but I`m not a tourist trying to seek out things of interest.

I think you must have a cunning plan to keep tourists away and enjoy the peace and quiet ( ? and boredom) all to yourself. am I right or am I right?

  4. What utter rubbish, I think BJ should leave for pastures new.

    OK

If here at the weekend, Walking street Saturday night San Kamphaeng, good for local handicrafts or the walking Street Sunday, town centre, both great fun.

Sankamphaeng hot Springs any time, several caves to visit.

They don't torture the elephants, a good show. If you drive, take the Samoeng loop, see the elephant shows and other attractions.

Wat Doi Suthep is really worth seeing and there is a 'touristy' Doi Pui ' hilltribe village further up.

The weather at the moment is dry, but it is the rainy season. Tends to rain in the afternoons, quite hard, .We've had several days of hot sunshine. If you are unlucky you will get several days of cloud and some rain, but the chances are you will not. September is wetter and you will almost certainly have rain.

Can't help with hotels as I live here, but I'd suggest one in the centre, CM is easy to walk around. If you want to shop, Airport Plaza of for wooden thingys try Ban Tawai- about 15 km south.

Hope you have a great time, CM is really nice

  6. Good work fire team.

However, 2 explosions there in 18 months? This must be a major point of concern for the whole of Bangkok because one accident like this in the life of a facility like Bangchek is really not acceptable; 2 in 18 months shows there are endemic problems there. No way I would want to live in that vicinity until a western HSE engineering firm has been through it and all the recommendations have been up taken, and passed as up to scratch by an independent (non local) audit. Wouldn't trust anything else in this country.

    Agree!

  7. With regards your comment about the non horizontal pans and speed shifts. Most modern edits (music videos, MTV cribs, General Cinematography) contain these techniques to add interest and fall in line with the bars of music. Usually to keep the audience focused on whats important.

As someone who used to direct and edit video for a international television company.

I would like to point out constant camera movement and pointless zooms/pans is the mark of the amateur.

Yes, rules for pop videos are different, but you aren't making pop videos (or horror movies), you are making documentaries.

If you have to add movement to make a shot interesting, change the shot.

If you have to add movement to 'focus the viewer' change the script.

Look at a decent documentary, count how many pans, tracks and odd shooting angles they use ......... usually none.

Now look at an amateur video ....... get the idea!

Agree, but tracking shots can be useful where there are static scenes( buildings etc)

  8. My Goodness, As always, the thread is going rapidly downhill. What started off as the really great thread now has TV members slagging each other off. Back to the videos. I gave what I thought were constructive comments and was also amused by the 'Best videos' title ( a touch pretentious/ provocative??). There is a lot of Thai culture that could be added once they ( as I did) get over the first 'Wow it's amazing' shock of being here.

But please folks, stop snapping at each other, look at the videos.

  9. Nice video , enjoyed it, very well edited. Can I make some suggestions?

Sometimes the 'non horizontal ' shots don't work, pans of scenery maybe better truly horizontal, as are shots in houses.

Other effects, speeding up, slowing down, distract a bit

Your voice overs are great for your friends, but are often obscured by the high level of the music track. I can't do voice overs unless I practice to slow down A LOT, maybe go back and listen again? You can always fade down the music while you are speaking then raise it again if you want.

I've just got back from that area,it's great, very leafy at present. If you go again, try to visit Mae Hong Song, a wonderful Wat on the hill, great little town, less 'touristy' than Pai. The airport is amazing, almost in the high street.

    Cheers

( BTW my previous comment was just a send up, great videos but maybe not 'the best')

  10. The Golden Triangle is very touristy. You may think about getting a bus to Pai , stopping a while and heading up to Soppong/ Pangmapha then MaeHhong Song. Would take several days, but go on the minibus from CM, about 300 baht I think ( the local bus is horribly slow). Lots of mountains, greenery, Pai is a bit overdeveloped now, but the journey is great and MHS is nice. lots of short trips to the Long Necks and other hill tribes. Can't cross into Burma from there tho'

  11. Very interesting and well presented. Thanks for this. Much food for thought in this and I would support further testing. As I said earlier, the manufacturers will be laughing all the way to the bank. In the meantime, as long as the security person is under 30 , female, and pretty, I won't object to a full body search.

I'm sure you won't. But it is she that is going to be searching you . . .

    I'll enjoy that too!

  12. MSG, Your prob right, but my little funny dig about Nivea and the Thai people who purchace on a mega scale. On the topic of harm from ALL devices--mobiles-computors-scanners-ex-rays. TIME is our only guarantee, these things are invented for money first, health second, advanced tech third.

OK!! I agree, I suspect some big American Company making these things was very happy when TSA decided to adopt them. To my mind an instance of the US trying to depend on technology rather than intelligence. If the video referred to earlier is right, they can be fooled anyway, so a lot of money spent for less than 100% certainty.

  13. Oh great, more security theater. Why exactly are they wasting money and people's time with this thing when it's already been proven worthless in america..

    http://tsaoutofourpa...-body-scanners/

I hope they'll still allow body searches since I don't want to get cancer from these things which although might be a small chance isn't something I want thanks.

Well seriously, not everybody (probably nobody if you think of it) wants that dam_n X-ray! What is somebody already has cancer or any other condition that could be worsened? Or what if people simply don't want to go through the procedure?

Something has to be done about it. If a petition needs to be signed, I'll be the first one to put my name on it.

Put me also on the list, is it serious ? these things are bad for your health ?

I am a regular at the airport and do not want to get sick , just because of this.

If this is the case - try to prove it in Thailand it is from the scanners ............ bad luck

Please just calm down and read the evidence I referred to first. The risk is said to be NEGLIGIBLE In other words you can IGNORE IT
