  1. the number of nights you actually lose sleep to this will be significantly fewer than the number of nights you laugh yourself to sleep knowing that a fool and his money are soon parted. will be out of business before it gets started.

they should rename that road soi mockery.

today i noticed a lot of Gecko orange flags on the old monkey theatre road, i followed the signs dreading another late night party like dreamfeilds last year. when i got there it was worse, its a purpose built out door nightclub and its a big one. the owner came over talking to us about how proud he was of his new venture. i asked how many times per week, reply every night, i asked what time he going to close, when last farang go was the reply. last straw for me i cannot tolerate that noise every night. he reckons fully open in 3 months, worth a look if you are out that way. i would have thought sound bar, solo, bamboo, monkey bar, ark bar, lake party etc were enough without sticking one on the side of a mountain in the jungle thats going to keep hundreds awake every night and morning.

Hua Hin here i come finally...

  2. certainly a scam. i manage several of the properties listed on their website, they have no contracts with either myself or the owner to list the properties and they certainly cannot "book" any of the properties in question.

to make matters worse, i emailed them with a bogus enquiry regarding a property of mine that i know to be booked long term, asking about a holiday rental. they emailed back after contacting "the owner", stating that the property was available and that certain requirements of mine (that i asked about knowing they were not available on that property) would be made available for my stay.

when i failed to respond to their email, they replied again with a very generous 20% discount offer but only if i booked immediately.

    very generous indeed.

  3. KoHabitat Property Managers are pleased to announce their cooperation with a major American television production company for the purpose of filming your Koh Samui home purchase for international television broadcast.

If you or someone you know is currently in the process of buying a home on Koh Samui and is interested in the idea of appearing on television, please contact us at [email protected] for further information.

There are no costs involved for the home buyers, the production company will pay successful applicants a total of 1,500 US dollars for appearing on the show.

  4. interesting coincidence here, i just finished taking a farang couple and their daughter to view some homes here on samui and as soon as they got into the backseat of the Yaris they immediately commented on how much room their was inside. the female half of the couple was about 5 or 6 months pregnant and had no trouble whatsoever getting into or out of the back seat.

  5. i drive both the vios and yaris on a daily basis (company cars). the vios has much more trunk space but the same amount of interior space. people that i've had riding in the back of the yaris are amazed at the amount of space but there is no way you can get a set of golf clubs in the yaris.

after driving each of these two cars on a daily basis for the last 6 months i have a significant yaris bias, the vios is a piece of junk.

  6. i drive my yaris daily in samui traffic and also drive it to penang on visa runs. i love this car. after having put many 100's of 1000's of miles on vehicles around the world i can say that the yaris is one of my personal favorites. i really only have two complaints, first, you really have to adjust the seat properly for your blind spots which are so important driving around a place like samui, and second, i got an automatic (company car so not my choice) whereas in this kind of traffic and on a small island like this i much prefer manual shifting because if you want to overtake someone you basically have to punch it and doing that many times every day can't be good for the motor.

the previous comment about the yaris on the highway i totally disagree with. each of my passengers has commented on how smooth and stable the car feels while driving at highway speed (120-140+). this car is solid as a rock.

  7. i have my SS card and tax card and i've been to the government hospital twice in the last two weeks, once due to my gf being 4 months pregnant and the next was a follow up where they requested my (and every father to be) blood.

on the first trip i had to pay over 1,000 baht for the doctor visit and yesterday i had to pay 400 baht just for them to draw my blood (again this was not something i volunteered or wanted to do, it was apparently thai policy to run blood tests for mother/father and i was cajoled into doing it).

i tried to present my SS card as well as my girlfriends on both occassions and the hospital refused to accept them and made me pay cash.

    are these reimbursable through SS?

  8. somebody must be listening. the re-designed public friendly viewpoint area half chaweng half lamai looks very nice and modern, safe, user friendly etc, hel_l it even has food carts collecting in the front now so it certainly helps the economy even if only a little bit, plus the way they have redone the road through bangrak looks great. looks like bangrak is now the place to be.

  9. My favourite street vendor has deserted his post and has not been seen for days. This is a truly sad state of affairs: where now must I get my morning waffle?

It's not the first time I've been deserted either.

Seriously, where do you think they go? My wife says he's gone to sell at another market, I think there might be a conspiracy. Why do the less-than-excellent ones stay, and the good ones go?

any time i used to wash my own laundry i would put two socks in the dryer and end up with only one sock.

perhaps there is a great vortex collecting my socks and your street vendors and casting them out to all parts of the globe.

maybe your street vendor is now selling my socks on a street corner in zagreb?

  10. SWR Consruction, they completed many of the luxury Villas, ask for Russel.

Thanks , not sure I wud say its luxury, but we do have a concept in mind. so u know anyone that has used this co ?, have seen some recommendations but no posts about personal experiences ?? Is it so then no pitfalls or co's to watch out for anyone ??

it's far easier to share what you don't have to watch out for, like for example, a completed house, or even people actually working.

imho it is far better to buy a turnkey home here, as there are far too many pitfalls or co's to watch out for since you simply cannot compile all of the horror stories and shady developers here in one forum.

  11. profmil hands down, provided you don't mind the 35,000+baht per sq.m. build cost.

Maple Leaf construction builds many of the hotels on the island as well as literally hundreds of homes like Samui Hillside Village etc.

KoHabitat Property Management handles all of the project management issues as well as maintenance and rental management, so they can arrange for everything from selection of builder to build management and rental management, basically oversee the entire project.

  12. Why is wine that expensive in Thailand, is it a combination of import taxes and demand ? At home (not in France), supermarkets offer a huge selection of perfect drinkable wines in the 300 Baht range.

And seems to have become much more expensive recently as well. You used to be able to get some fairly decent offers in Villa and the like (buy one, get one, buy two get one) which meant the price per bottle was reasonable. My last trip there did not see even one offer, and individual bottles mostly up above 500 baht per. Even the local Lotus has little below 450 per bottle.

And Thai "wine" -not the fruit stuff, just the stuff they sell as "wine" - undrinkable.

i just had a glass of wine with the head of the largest wine importer in thailand, he told me the import duty for wines was 430%

    i'll stick to chang.

  13. They used to show this on one of the UBC channels (TSP2) until recently, guess it got too expensive. Apparently UFC is worth more than WWE and HBO boxing combined these days.

what they were showing on UBC was the last few years of UFC , on a loop. they have never shown a current event. They have just recently begun playing catch up with the last two years but still do not play a current event unfortunately.

What is Samui to become?? I have been living here for 18 years although I do return to the U.K. and still see everything that I was so glad to get away from in 1989. I had seen the ruin of one paradise Island in the early 60's ( MAJORCA ) but with Thailand being so far away I enjoyed 12 great years on the paradise island of Samui, then to my shock came the Xmas card. amazing in a country that is 90%BHUDDIST ? then Boots chemist, Burger King, Mc Donalds, Tesco's, Bowling alleys, the list goes on, now we learn people are missing the violence they left behind, what a sad bunch of people we have coming to the island, if they can't knock down the coconut trees they want to knock down each other.

what is sad is that there are fewer and fewer places left where grown men can decide what they want to do in the privacy of their own homes without some ****** coming along trying to take away those same liberties. i don't go running to a messageboard and start crying about the gallon of patchoulli oil you are bathing in so don't come onto a thread clearly marked UFC and start crying about people watching it.

  14. i am down with that i uso do that in england. right laugh better than paint balling. exactly where abouts :o

exactly. where else can you shoot a samui cop and have a beer with him a few minutes later? (several local police and military play)

i don't know what the exact schedule is, just posting that flyer for a friend. they do have this email up for info...

[email protected], attention to Ty or Gin.

and i'm sure they will respond quickly.

the choeng mon field i played on was very near Imperial Boat House, we used a private field near Jungle Club a few times. I've never played the Laem Set field but i understand they have lights for night play and rent out guns at about 150 baht so, mai paeng.

  15. There are a few local teams competing in theTour of Koh Samui Airsoft Event

happening next weekend. Two fields on Samui that i know of, on the beach in choeng mon and a lighted field for night play in the Laem Set area. I guess they have teams coming out from Surat Thani and other mainland areas to take on the Samui teams.

I tried out the game a couple of weeks ago, i guess there are quite a few expats here on Samui playing alongside local thai players.

If you have kids and don't mind them playing with guns, the samui teams play twice a week (wed and sun), i don't believe there is any charge to play if you have your own equipment, just show up and shoot people.
