  1. I didn't see a post on it and I searched. People in Thailand will be able to see a RARE partial solar eclipse. It will happen in the evening before sunset at 5:55 PM to 6:30 PM. Remember not to stare directly at or it could injure your eyes or even make you blind. An example of what it will look like is below. If anyone knows where to get the special film glasses around Bangkok, please let me know. Thanks.

  2. Nothing will ever come of it, except foreigners(me included) arguing on a forum about it. My wife and I own a travel company and our 2 most popular tours are Tiger Temple and Floating Market. That goes for almost every tour agency. Why would you think your ideals from the west would even enter the minds of a large majority of the Thai people, enough for them to make the temple close or bar them from keeping tigers? It just doesn't work that way and will not work that way for years to come, so until then lots of money will be made. As a write this my wife is booking the Tiger Temple for 12 people :o

Tiger Temple and Damnern Floating Market are the biggest sellers.

  3. First of all if you're an old man and your "girlfriend" is half your age or more, then I think you should expect to pay a lot. I'm sure you guys know people like this in your own countries. We have tons in America. Anna Nicole Smith was one of em. A gold digger. The only difference here is that these girls and their families are smarter about it (cultural trickery) and can milk more money. A man's brain sometimes loses reality and replaces it with fantasy. I for one don't have to deal with any of that and feel sorry for people that actually hand all this money over for an isaan girl. I met my wife in America while she was studying there for her masters. She is from Southern Thailand and she explained to me about the sin sodt and said "but we don't really do that anymore" and that was all I heard about. She has explained to me about the poorer girls in the northeast. She said "Their parents teach them to lie, cheat, and steal to survive, so it's very accepting of them to do this. It's natural for them." She said "Most real Thai's do no trust them. They aren't real Thai's anyway. They are only good for labor" I'm sure what she said might upset some people, but I thought I would let you guys know. Word of advice. Don't go to bar's looking for a g/f or potential wife and don't marry prostitutes!. That doesn't even work well in first world countries, so why would you think it would work out any better here?

    • Left March 25th at 8pm by Double decker bus.

    • Stopped a few times of course for bathroom and snacks/food.

    • Arrived 9 hours later (March 26th 5am) in Nong Khai, where I filled out the laos visa forms and they checked my passport at a restaurant and also ate.

    • 6am Arrived at Nong Khai/Laos Border.

    • Waited around 1 hour for my Laos visa as there were about 50 other people waiting. No other tours came at this time THANK GOD!

    • Got on the crappy bus on the Laos side to the embassy (extra 50 baht)<-----BS I know.

    • Arrived at the embassy in about 20 minutes and the embassy looked deserted! No one was there! (except for like maybe 9 other people). Where it said the different types of visas I put an X for Tourist Visa and X2. I took the app to the guy and he said "So you need a Double Entry?" and he told me the place where I forgot to put it and spell out Double Entry. He happily did it for me :o

    • TIP: I wouldn't fool with those guys hanging around outside of the embassy. THEY ARE UP TO NO GOOD AND THEY DO NOT WORK FOR THE EMBASSY.

    • Went and checked in at Aroon Residence Hotel. $20 gets you pretty nice room hot water/fridge/tv with all channels/Wifi/American Breakfast/Tons more. For $35 You can buy a whole floor (Suite) Its like a little mini mansion. This place is superclean, but also the walking distance from there to the embassy is about 20 minutes.

    • Looked around at the sleepy capital. Mekong river etc (I guess you can walk across the mekong certain times of the year since its nothing but sand in some areas.) Ate French food or whatever it was. Fried Meatballs and French Fries.

    • Now pickup time for the visa wasnt until 1pm so me and my girl had some time to kill so we woke up early and checked out to go to the morning market. I have to say Laos is very different but they like boring food and boring markets and have you seen the Lao dance? All selling the same stuff like Laos Chocolate(DO NOT BUY THE LAO CHOCOLATE IN THE FANCY WRAPPING AND CASES! IT'S LIKE 99% SUGAR 1% CHOCOLATE) My Apologies for this rant.

    • So it was about 12:00 pm and it was time for us to go (we met a cool canadian dude and his g/f while we were there and we stuck together from then on)

    • Wrong decision because it only took us 10 mins to get there so we would have to stand outside the embassy in 100F weather for 50mins? No way we told the tuk tuk driver to stay there and to just send us to the border after we were done so we used the shade of the tuk tuk until we saw there were people lining up.

    • Me and the Canadian guy were 4th and 5th in line (WOOHOO!) and I showed my receipt and received my passport. Inside was a X2 tourist visa. No problems at all! Oh I also had 3 other seperate used tourist visas in my passport, but it seemed it didnt matter.

    • After that was all done the tuk-tuk driver took us to the border where we found a driver to drive all 4 of us to Udon Thani to the airport so we could get back to Bangkok in an hour (Civilization!) The private cars here apparently have to queue up? This one old driver was rushing us for some reason to get in his car and here comes this younger thai guy and starts yelling at him for not queueing up.

Well I guess thats it. I hope I didnt miss anything. Oh I hate to say this but im sure alot of people here know. If youre a black guy, you WILL be hassled by Thai Immigration. If I missed anything, just let me know.

  4. Any good recommendations for a fast visa run from Bangkok to Cambodia next Tuesday?

I've heard Jack's visa run are OK. A guy from this operator just told me there are 3-hour queues (150 people) at Poipet :o

Most important this time is to get back to Bangkok as early as possible. I don't mind how early I leave. I have a non-immigrant B visa and work permit but I will also have an outbound flight ticket for 2nd June if they need to see that as well.

    Thanks!

Yeah I went last month and had to wait almost 3 hours getting back to the Thai side. Coming into Cambodia wasnt bad, but coming out the line stretched all the way out into the street where the guys with the motorbikes were. Oh and of course it rained..... They opened up 4 booths? I think its 4....anyways, as soon as they opened them they told everyone to get in line for the 4 windows and then they closed 2 of the windows right as everyone from the single long line split off for the other windows. So now about 100+ people got cut out of the line.......It was my 4th time there and I have never seen it like that. It was crazy. I'm going to Laos in a few days and going to try for the X2 Tourist Visa's. I will update the current situation from the embassy there in the other thread.

  5. I'm interested in buying sterling silver in Thailand and selling it to stores in the US. Does anyone here have experience? There are sterling silver shops near khao san that sell 30k baht per kilo. I'm sure there are better prices than that. Is it really worth it? Any information would be appreciated. Thanks.

  7. I have 4 pages consecutively. Is that enough? The U.S. Embassy is already closed for extra pages and I need to leave on the 25th. I think I leave at night on the 25th so maybe I can get extra pages then. Just wondering how many pages are used since I don't remember from last time. The stamps are out of order in my passport so I'm not sure how many pages are used. TIA.

  8. Having a problem with a Hitachi Well Pump Model: WT-P 150 HS

It's making a loud clicking noise and the water throughout the house is sort of spurting the water out then it completly stops coming out. Works fine for maybe 5 mins until it needs to start pumping again. It's an above ground pump. Any idea's?

I'm in Bangkok and it's sunday and the only guy I know is "busy". TIA.

  9. Sounds like a strange question to ask, but a buddy of mine can speak some English but he feels more comfortable with a guide that can take him around Pattaya and Bangkok that is Vietnamese or just knows the language. He doesn't care what nationality. Anyone here know of a service for that? TIA.

  10. You seem to be exiting Thailand and coming back for a 30 day visa exempt entry rather than making extensions of stay. You pay 1,900 baht and submit a TM.7 form with your photo for an extension of stay.

As said before you are only allowed 90 days of these entries in a six month period. If you currently have a 60 day visa entry would advise you to make sure to use the TM.7 extension of stay at immigration office (don't leave Thailand) as we can not be sure how much you have used.

Thanks alot guys. I just came back from the Immigration Bureau/Madhouse and waited about 3 hours and received the extension no problems. They didnt ask for an outbound ticket either.

  11. I was told by more than one person that I would have to go to Poi Pet other wise Thai immigration would only give me 7 days. So I just walk on in Thai immigration and get it stamped for another 30 days?

They may request to see an outbound ticket for the end of the 30 day extension. If they request it and you do not have one, they may only give you 7 days. From what I hear though, they do not seem to ask for it too often. Yes, just go to immigration about a week before your 60 days are up. Look at other posts about extensions, I think you might need a couple of pictures, and maybe a copy of your passport. Never had one myself.

I don't know how you would be getting an extension in Cambodia though. As soon as you leave Thailand your visa is finished and void unless you have a re-entry permit. And then if you have a re-entry permit, it does not give you any extra days.

The visa expires on the 27th of this month which is in 2 days . Is that still ok? I can go tomorrow and I do have an outbound ticket.

  12. All of my Tourist Visa's were obtained at consulates.

    Here is a run down:

    1. First 60 days tourist visa from Washington D.C. Thai Embassy.

    2. Extended 30 days at Poi Pet, Cambodia.

    3. Visa exempt stamp at Poi pet, Cambodia.

    4. 2nd Tourist Visa from Vientiane, Laos Thai Embassy.

    Hope this helps. Thanks.

I am not sure how you are extending your visa in Cambodia. When you extend a tourist visa, you do it within Thailand at an immigration office.

I was told by more than one person that I would have to go to Poi Pet other wise Thai immigration would only give me 7 days. So I just walk on in Thai immigration and get it stamped for another 30 days?

  13. All of my Tourist Visa's were obtained at consulates.

    2. Extended 30 days at Poi Pet, Cambodia.

  14. Nationality: American

    Age: 27

I have been here for 5 months on 2 TV's and I've been to Poi Pet 1 time for extending my T.V. and a 2nd time for a VOA I suppose it was. Then I went to Vientiane and obtained another T.V. and it's expiring on the 27th of this month. That means 2 Thai TV's,2 Cambodian TV's, and 1 Laos TV in my passport. Will that be a problem? I can extend it like normal from Poi Pet correct? I have an onward ticket like always and I've never overstayed or received any red stamps or anything. TIA.

P.S. I've searched the forums but have not found anything like my situation. Similar but I just want to be sure and get some advice from the Pro's.
