  1. Mixed reception in Don Mueang for PM

    The Nation

Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra on Thursday received mixed greetings from people affected by serious flooding during an inspection trip to Bangkok's Don Mueang District.

Yingluck spent two hours on a boat inspection and dropped EM balls in the floodwaters, which are starting to show signs of pollution. She also distributed relief supplies to flood victims.

More than 400 Burapa community residents cheered as they welcomed the PM, saying they would survive now that the PM had come to visit them.

However, at the Kosum Ruamjai market, 500 people converged to wait for the relief supplies. Many shouted angrily after receiving nothing. "We were told to come out for the supplies but there is not enough for everyone,'' one man said.

At Don Mueang Technical College, which serves as an evacuation centre but has been flooded, 200 evacuees who have had to move up to the second floor, shouted for help as Yingluck passed by. They told her they were facing difficulties as no officials had turned up to help them. They could not go anywhere because the boat trips were very costly.

Yingluck later said that although the public had shown both support and anger, she would not be disheartened because she understood the public's plight. She admitted that she was stressed sometimes but said she would be patient.

She said she had done nothing to prevent water from flooding her house, which is on a road parallel to RamIntra expressway. Her house is one metre higher than the road and if the water rises to higher than that level, she would let the water in.

You don't think that monk was put out there as a publicity stunt, do you? No, of course not. I'm sure he just happened to be paddling by. Probably doing paddle meditation. :-)

Unfortunately for the more enlightened people of Thailand, stunts like this work (along with throwing around a lot of cold, hard cash).

As proven by the last general election.

  2. "I understand that Alexakap has had his house flooded and is therefore naturally and justifiably upset and angry at the current government. It is always a soft target as even right decisions will cause pain and grief to some.<br style="color: rgb(28, 40, 55); font-size: 13px; line-height: 19px; background-color: rgb(250, 251, 252); "><br style="color: rgb(28, 40, 55); font-size: 13px; line-height: 19px; background-color: rgb(250, 251, 252); ">The thing that I don't understand is the obsession of the anti reds to blindly and childishly resort to name calling and criticism without any intelligent reasoning behind their posts. <br style="color: rgb(28, 40, 55); font-size: 13px; line-height: 19px; background-color: rgb(250, 251, 252); "><br style="color: rgb(28, 40, 55); font-size: 13px; line-height: 19px; background-color: rgb(250, 251, 252); ">With regards to being a red supporter, are you up to the constant barrage of insults that will inevitably come your way? I'm not even a real supporter, more a sympathiser and even then, I've been subject to personal insults :)"

    1) i feel for everyone who lost anyone or anything in this disaster

2)no, i don't understand the anger towards the government for not effectively coping with a ones-in-a-liftime natural disaster, even if they made truckloads of mistakes.

    3) you are asking me directly? I am not a red supporter at all. I am farang, so I am aware that my opinion counts fror crap anyways. I am am not a yellow or dems supporter either. What gets me going is this arrogant ways, in which most people blindly attack a PERSON and make her the scapegoat for a failled state, a failled political system, a failled traditional system, for all the "mai pen rai" in this country and especially if they are farang like myself, for the unbelievable arrogance, sitting in an assumed elevated position, talking down on anyone, as if they were little children. That including politicians, businessmen and -women.

I am all here, critizising what I think is wrong. And I an getting worked up about it, because I was brought up, looking at facts, analyzing and trying to find solutions. but I could name guys on this forum who are just trolling on an elaborate level. not doing or thinking anything good, just being negative. Do I support the red? Hell no!

Off-topic, but what tool do you guys use to write these posts? This is the second one I've seen that has somehow managed to have a load of malformed HTML in them.

  3. If I was rural people, I'am boring to carry the idiots head too. Why people outside Bangkok should pay for all the blemish they make since months?

There is a lot of water in the north, waiting for flow. It's not only a few thousend in eastern Bkk, It's the whole Land, and some of them standing since 6 weeks in the water.

And when you hear, how Sukumbhand speak about flood victims, then its really time to see clear.

So instead of having 2.5 - 3 million people suffering for weeks with floods, you would prefer 6 - 9 million people suffering for weeks?

I think it's hightime to let the water flow. The rural people not fish, people going sick and die. So Bkk have resposibility to help now, that is what I think.

    Where do you stay?

You ever where in floodet areas?

    Shut up.

Fully agree. Better 9 Million wet feet for 10 Days, than rotten water for3 Million Million for Months. Makes a huge difference for house struktures and health. But there is still a big chance for the flood to creap into inner Bangkokwhatever is done. Who knows wether them dikes are holding on. It is by far not over.

Yeah so throw the switch and pay for the consequences later - no matter how bad they may be.

There's a reason people of a similar mindset don't run the country.

    No, wait - they do.

    Arse.

  4. Hammered is referring to a baseless rumour, the English-language version of which has been spurned on by a highly discredited "journalist"

Once upon I considered his posts above this nonsense. Clearly no longer the case.

Slight sense of humour failure apparent.

Who is the journalist by the way and why is he "discredited"?

And what does "spurned on" mean?

Andrew Spooner who is probably best described as a political activist and journalist although his political opinions and agenda are not hidden. Is what he says factual? Who knows, even propoganda can include real facts but with his agenda a certain level of uncertainty would remain. However, in this case he isnt reporting the news but putting into English what Thai Rath reported and he doesnt state it as fact and also includes Khao Sod's alternative of Abhisit being in the UK. Some people on TV forget that the three main English language sources of news in Thailand (Post, Nation, TAN) have very similar political agendas while the majority of the Thai language large circular news is now very different in tone. In some ways it is a shame that there isnt an English langauge news media saying what the most read Thai news sources say as that would give a more nuanced context for foreigners interested in Thai politics.

The guy is a laughing stock and the rumour was discredited almost as soon as it came to "light". Regardless of whatever agenda people believe The Bangkok Post and The Nation to have, it's most likely they never went near this story with a large pole owing to common sense.

  5. There are more pressing issues and Thaksin is almost as quiet as Abhisit seems to have gone in the last couple of days. Maybe they are sharing cocktails on a nice Maldives beach or something

And your neutral opinion used to carry so much respect around here.

Maybe Thaksin was advising him how to distribute the donations given generously by others under his own name?

Amazing.Hammered refers to better understanding and co-operation between the government and military, and cracks a joke at the expense of Thaksin and Abhisit.

Your response is to lament his lack of neutrality, whatever that means. What's bugging you?

  6. Trucks bringing aid to flood victims in Thailand have got banners promoting Thai party: http://t.co/7QPSGFJS /Via@@thaikamala

Are there any PTP supporters out there that can explain this one away?

Of course it is shameless advertising form our point of view.

But I wonder how many Thais have as big a problem with it as some of the posters here do. I'm just guessing, but I reckon even Dem MPs aren't batting an eyelid. Let me know if you detect any significant outrage expressed by Johnny Native.

there are far more pictures doing the rounds. And the general consenus is it's not good.

Have seen several posted by Thais on my FB account, all with non-too-happy comments. Given the majority of ppl donating are in BKK, the donations could start drying up...

  7. ThaiVisa's obsession with Thaksin is almost as "healthy" as Thaksin's obsession with Thailand.

This truck was parked at the edge of Bang Bua Thong greeting the people evacuating the area while his red shirts (who he apparently doesn't know) handed out food. Care to read the Thai script?

    post-5600-0-47154000-1319360392_thumb.jp

I thought this guy had recently (again) said he quit politics? Again, we all know the real answer to that also.

Another great publicity promotion for Thaksin thanks to the obsessed Tvisa gang..........keep it up guys I bet he is really running scared of your smear campaign.......:) .

The flaw in this being a "great publicity promotion for Thaksin" is the average user having the ability to read.

  8. She looks like hell. She is actually starting to actually resemble the distinguished Takki Shinegra

What is it with you people? Thailand is facing its worst flooding 70 years and former PM Thaksin is the first thing on your mind? You all sound like little children. Is it impossible for you to put your Thaksin obsession aside just for the time being until this crisis is over? I know the answer to that, just asking for the record.

  9. There are thousands (or hundreds of thousands) of homes in Bang Bua Thong which are now flooded out. The bill for the damages will be immense, and if they don't get rid of the water soon no doubt the human tragedy component of this man-made disaster will increase.

Using all the nouce they possibly can (don't expect to be overwhelmed) this government needs to manage the flow of water out into the sea ASAP. The best people can do is prepare for the worst.

  10. anyone who is foolish enough to think that this attempt has had a meaningful impact on the flood, please provide actual evidence in the form of a scientific proof or measurement data.

it's obvious that the PM is out of her depth (BOOM BOOM!) on this matter. She only says that it has had an effect to make her biggest supporters happy, and as is usually the case, they will lap up anything she says; she could say she kindly moved the moon using satellites to aid the tides, and they would believe it.

A more objective person would question the science behind it. Especially one who has studied physics or has any familiarity with the sea and with boats.

Not sure if it's a colossal attempt at face-saving, but there where reports going around yesterday that this unique approach to remedy the flood problem came from somewhere quite high up top. Dunno if these claims will ever be clarified or rejected though....

  11. I was written about the doctored tape in volume 2 of my book, and to where my own investigations into the origin led to - the barracks.

SC-Asset was not the origin of the tape, and the company has been cleared. The tape was distributed over several channels bypassing the Red Shirt leadership, and made its way to stages and radio stations before investigations over its authenticity could be performed. Quite ingenious.

I have written about all the subject matters you mentioned, i have photographed violence by the Red Shirts, and by all other sides. But replying to all of the subjects you mentioned here would be a bit too time consuming. Some of the subjects you mentioned i have not yet written about, but be assured, i will.

You should pass your findings on to Mr Amsterdam. He's clearly fond of such accusations, regardless of credibility.

  12. He turned himself in "claiming" to be the hacker. The ministry didn't do any tracking!

The AFP report says he turned himself in after being 'contacted by investigators' which implies that they did indeed do some tracking.

When he surrendered he even said "it's a fair cop, guv!"

    Presumably.

Now the massive threat to national security has been apprehended I hope to see Yingluck tweeting again.
