  1. Sorry, I mixed up the names. It says Klong Toey Market. Is this the same as Jatujak/Chatuchak?

No this are very different markets. Chatuchak is the weekend market and Klong Toey is a daily vegetable and food market. They are also fa from each other. Klong Toey is kind of port area and Chatuchak is in the north near the northern railway junction.

  2. Person Wanted to share Visa Run Private Car We are 2 people leaving from Koh Phangan within the next 10 days to the Malaysian border. Leaving Koh Phangan 05:00am Raja Ferry to Donsak then private car to Khuandon and back to Donsak by 16:30pm for the ferry to Koh Phangan, arriving by 18:30pm.The price to rent the car is 5,200 baht. So divided by 3 people is 1700 baht per person or divided by 4 people 1,300. If leaving from Koh Phangan there is an extra 500 baht to pay for the ferry (both ways) If not,we can pick you up at Donsak, the private car will be there waiting to pick you up. Contact me for any questions.

    Nice offer from you :D

...what car do you get for 5,200 baht a day? :D

    maybe a Benz 300SEL :o

don't forget the gasoline (~1,200 baht)

5,200 baht divided by 3 people = ~1,733 baht (without gasoline)

6,400 baht divided by 3 people = ~2,133 baht (with gasoline)

little missunderstanding I guess, I did this trip with two other nice guy's from Phangan and it was a cool drive and fun. We left with the earliest ferry and came back with the evening ferry. In that amount everything is included incl. a good driver. You only have to pay the Raja Ferry in additional. Good choice anyway. An far better then pay this idiots in Burma 20 USD.

The driver and the care we used

nothing to worry :D , fullmoon party is at the 12th :o and anyway Ko Phangan is Ko Phangan, descendent of pirats and other unknown hidway people :D always have done what they want I guess

  4. Hi "ham",

    Thank you for the photos.

Never in 18 years in Thailand have I seen "Moo-kata" like your photo.

me either, I just found this picture when googling for "Mongolentopf", thanks for the picture, I was thinking I will go soon have some "Mou-kata" there and making some pictures too ;-)

now I can change it for the map, thanks again Kan Win very kind of you

  5. Can anyone tell me the english name for "Mukataa" ? Is it Mongolian Pot, Firepot? no idea, I just know it is very good, bud need to mention it on a map and can't find it!

    Thanks a lot

Well, I think you probably could call it "Thai BBQ". "mu" means pork and "kata" is the name of the pan everything is cooked on, have you noticed the piece of pork placed on the top of the pan?

There's a quite a few places in Bangkok that have "mukata" (there's also a couple opposite the ladybars heading towards Ban Tai, coming from Thong Sala), eat all you can for 89bt, if there's any food left over (not eaten) you must pay an extra 20bt! (that's where a doggy bag comes in handy!).

I think "mukata" originates from Korea.

5tash and KaWin, thank you for your replay. In German they call it "Mongolentopf" and in the restaurant where I go when I want to eat the "Mukataa" they call it "Hot Pan BBQ" (as you can see on the picture), wich is defenetly not the right name I guess. Korean BBQ, I did hear already. It is now little more expensive it cost 110 Baht right now. Still o.k. I think for what you get. It is very good and a lot of fun to eat with some friends. For sure the best one on Ko Phangan. The one in Thongsala near pier is good to. But I prefere to drive to Ban Kai for it ;-)

This one (pic) is in Ban Kai right hand when driving towards Hadrin, very nice place and well known by the locals.

  6. I for one wish Obama well but history has proved good people who would like to help the less fortunate do not last long, remember john and robert kennedy.

Dark forces and greedy vicious people control this world,as an example druglords, people and children traffickers, religous extremists, and close to home the armaments industry, pentagon and not to forget the oil industry,i could go on but you get the drift.

this one makes me also to be scared a bit. Since history is always repeating itself also, just on an another level, other circumstances. So we shall hope that we don't get another kennedy show down. I not want to imagine what would happen in the states. Do you?

  7. The dream of Dr. Martin Luther King became fanally true. The work ahead from this mess those backward oriented "warriors" let behind them, will not be easy to overcome. I wish this new Mr. President all luck on earth and god's help to succeed. May those "criminals around Bush get a war tribunal sooner or later. Bush should be behind bars!

  8. Spike, especially for you :o

it was a beautiful day today and I went on a little photo tour in the north. Here the actual state of the super highway to chaloklum. The building site on the hill over Maehad remains the same, except little work has been done on the wood as you can see on the picture, otherwise no progress on this huge site so far. World's End still closed too :D

It is quiet on the island

  9. There is an "Fullmoon Beach Soccer Cup" event every month now (since Feb. 2007) at the Hadrin Beach (East) and they seem to be successfull and having a lot of fun. The organizer are Germans (Heinz and Martin) and I know they have sometimes teams from Samui coming over to participate. It was once a 3-day event and it has grown out to be a successful 4-day event, month by month with around 10'000 visitors in the high season, according the organizers!

PM me, if someone needs more detail e.g. phone and mail. I had just recently an intereview with them for my webpage.

  10. Before 1st time in Thailand (1992-1996)

I was working about 15 years as a "Site Manager" on oversea construction sites (Asia/Africa/Middle East) for a Swiss company (Civil Engineering and Architecture).

Before 2nd Time 2005-2009? I was working as an IT-Project Manager for an US IT Company in a big Swiss Bank (no comment :o , but good money) I'm here now, due to the knowledge of big changes (Transformation) ahead of us!

Now (if).....working with my laptop/printer/laminator/internet/website.....everything what go's in the jungle

  11. hi Limbos

there is Wat Po with it big name (because everybody go there, see's there etc.) as mentioned already.

The real good school is in Chaing Mai the name is TMC, see also www.tmcschool.com they have some very good and illustrated books out (in any bookshop also in Samui)

Another good name is this one, where Thai's going a lot for education: "Thai Traditional Medical Services Society" BKK. You can see this Logo here at Ko Phangan at some places, so sure also in Samui.

That's the logo (little funny na?) I know here an teacher in Had Chaopao and he is really good!

  12. Yesterday was happen the Equinox and I was remembered to that event by a new shop which just opened few day's ago in Thongsala. "Pure and Simple" is the name of the shop, just a bit further down on the other side of Mike's restaurant and they selling stuff around smell and smoke. I don't know the english expression. I use it for ceremonies and rituals for my self.

So here some pictures from my ritual and from this shop. Good idea I think. Something I mentioned several times to younger Thai ladys when they been asking what could be done here for selling. The idea was now taken by somebody else ;-)

can you imagine my thai neighbors, when they hear me drumming with my shamen drum: Farang ba, farang ting tong :o

  13. I was yesterday dancing for some hours at the "halfmoon festival" (brand name) in Ban Tai. Entrance fee 300 Baht (Thai's 200). It is quite expensive, but always a very good party in a very nice environment. It does not close anymoe at 2 in the morning. :D

Even I left at that time :o So if you like to party better take this one in your agenda, and twice a month! :D

    see here: halfmoonfestival.com

  14. A friend of mine paid 14000 baht for a wifi USB gizmo and pays 800 baht a month for usage. I have never heard of this before but it sounds extortionate to me. It apparently can be used anywhere in Thailand though and you don't need a phone line for it...

I've got this one from Baan Computer, Ban Tai (Phangan) and it cost 11'800 and I pay ~750 a month. From CAT and also don't need a phone line! It is pretty good.

  15. Personally I think Phangan is way down this September than last - and a lot of this year too.

If you look at the numbers of arrivals, it could be probably different, then "our" feeling about the visitors here. I guess it just has more resorts, more bungalows and people stay a shorter time. Years ago you just had to look at the songserm pier and you know how many people came! Now there are boats all the time coming in and going out. When you go to the pier always a lot of people there! ? Maybe there is just a kind of stagnation. And anyway here on Phangan everything follows the moon ;-)) actually very natural here :o liike the tides

  16. Don't want to create a doom and gloom post but for personal and professional reasons I am interested in how businesses in the area have felt the knock on from events in BKK. There was a recent poting on the news section that tourists figures are down 70%. Is this what it feels like or is it less dramatic than this?

This numbers are regarding asian tourist (from which the chinese people is the biggest group) and sure they scare much more then westernes (because they know what can happen here) and also the Japanese are very scary tourists, you must know! Then there was the olympic games too, which had also an inpact to the whole counting!

Here local (Phangan), it seems to be just normal, as every year after the last peak in August, when there are holidays in EU. September until x-mas usually very quiet here in the south. Bangkok is a different scene!! Chinese an Asian in general do not coming for beach holiday's!! Very few as fa as I know :o
