They have been in it, a very long time.

Israel has won the contest on four occasions: in 1978 with the song "A-Ba-Ni-Bi" performed by Izhar Cohen and the Alphabeta, in 1979 with the song "Hallelujah" performed by Milk and Honey, in 1998 with the song "Diva" performed by Dana International and in 2018 with the song "Toy" performed by Netta Barzilai.

You didn't explain why a Middle East country is in a European contest.

Why is no one asking the question of why Hamas is not giving up even though they have zero chance of winning the war and are fully aware of the massive pain they are causing to their own people? Why are the palestinians not trying to put an end to this Hamas madness? If they want to play the victim card then maybe stop firing rockets and doing random attacks? It's such an absurd situation. But I guess that's what you get after being indoctrinated with hate from small.

    Simple.

a/ they will likely never surrender because they know how they will be treated if they do.

b/ They have forced israel to back down on it's intent to deny any food water, fuel etc into Gaza, and they even got to the stage of signing a ceasefire agreement that gives israel little of what they want ( IMO the destruction of Gaza so all the Palestinians have to leave ).

c/ They are winning the propaganda war, and millions that used to ignore the Palestinians, or support the israelis, are now demonstrating in support of Palestinians.

Israel may win the conflict, but they have lost the support of much of the world community ( except for the so called "leaders" in western countries  )

No I'm not saying that and I don't know why you suggest I would have. Al Jazeera is not the Thaiger 🙂 But it's really easy to spin facts and present information in misleading ways. Nobody is denying the destruction and I've critized Israel for it. That doesn't change the fact that 1. Qatar supports Hamas and 2. Al Jazeera is the "soft power" broadcast of Qatar. You should take anything they distribute with the understanding that they are not exactly unbiased.

Given the blatant bias of western media to israel, perhaps Al Jazeera needs to balance the books a bit. Anyway, they have no shortage of western experts willing to condemn israel for its crimes.

The report also raises concerns about Israel's cooperation with US efforts to provide humanitarian aid to Gaza. While Israel has not been found to be prohibiting aid delivery, there were initial challenges in maximizing humanitarian assistance during the conflict.  It noted, however, that this situation had changed.

Yes changed to blocking aid altogether.

    https://www.aljazeera.com/news/liveblog/2024/5/10/israels-war-on-gaza-live-aid-operation-completely-crippled-amid-attacks

This is happening while Israel has closed aid crossings to Gaza for days, allowing almost nothing in or out as tens of thousands are fleeing Rafah amid a dire humanitarian situation.

Although the current spike in ocean temperatures coincides with an El Niño event in the tropical Pacific, the extent and duration of the heat exceed typical fluctuations associated with natural climate cycles. This suggests that human-induced factors, such as greenhouse gas emissions, are driving the sustained warming trend in the world's oceans.

Of course, it's us naughty humans that are to blame. :whistling:

Sooooo, even if it is all down to us, a/ what are they going to do about it, b/ will whatever they do about it actually work, c/ what do they want to change it to?

Given that ( IMO ) we can't do anything about it, let's do what is necessary to adapt to it, and that doesn't include giving countries that behave badly lots of money. If a country that behaves badly is going to suffer because of their own actions, then, IMO, they can sort their own problems out.

It's from the takeover of Hamilton Hall at Columbia... Smashed windows, piled furniture left after occupation of Hamilton Hall at Columbia University (nbcnews.com)  Her is the same window after the rioter got done... columbia university hamilton hall unrest israel hamas conflict protest nypd riot gear broken glass door

You could have included that with the original photo. As the person in question is IMO not a Palestinian supporter it could have been a set up photo to cast doubt on the protestors. I have no doubt there are plenty of fake protestors causing trouble. That's what the forces of darkness do.

I'm confused too.  The BBC reported that "April saw the hottest April day since 1949 when, on 19 April, the temperature reached 29.1C in London St James' Park."

    https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-44341030

So a high of 26C is quite a drop from the 29C reported on that day.  Is it a cooling crisis or a warming crisis?  Need to make sure I panic accordingly and stock up on budgie smugglers or ski jackets depending on which one it is.

Since when is even 29 C "excessively hot"? That's nothing compared to Saudi- https://climateknowledgeportal.worldbank.org/country/saudi-arabia/climate-data-historical

Summers in the central region are extremely hot and dry, ranging from 27°C to 43°C in the inland areas.

If it's too hot in the UK, send some of it down to NZ where it's too cold now.

Seems some are clutching at straws to denigrate Putin. I didn't watch the entire parade, but I did see plenty of armoured vehicles, and the ones with great big missiles, presumably the ones with tactical nuclear warheads.

The tank in question is a WW2 tank, so appropriate to use in a parade to celebrate their defeat of Germany. Perhaps the other, more modern tanks are being used to defeat the Ukrainians, and a bit busy to take part in a parade in Moscow.

  10. As seen on Al Jazeera, massive demonstration outside the building, and the israeli contestant was booed very loudly inside at a rehearsal.

Why is israel even part of it? The Middle East is not in Europe.

The organisers should be regretting that they didn't ban the israeli contestant. It's going to be real on the night if she shows up, even without flags inside.

I will not support Hamas in any way. The leadership of Hamas does not even live in Gaza Strip

or west bank, so if Isreal takes over Gaza strip and destroys Hamas, Good!

The people of Gaza should show the Isreal military all the members of Hamas, who are hiding amongst

them. I will not forget that it was Hamas on Oct 7 2023, who went into Isreal and killed over 1200 people, then raped and shot more of the women

in those first few days. Hamas still has lots of hostages, several who have died since being kidnapped.

When I see the protesters in the USA and Canada caying that " From the river to the sea, then claim that they did

not know what it means, is disgusting. The leadership of Hamas will not surrender as he is not in danger, unless he gets

assasinated. What a disgusting bunch of terrorrists.

IMO terrorists are people that kills thousands of innocent children, starves millions, deprives millions of health care, and keeps blowing them up in their homes.

Because 2,000 years of recurring pogroms in Europe and elsewhere have demonstrated that Jewish people can only be secure if they take responsibility for their own security, which they can only do by controlling their own state.

Sooooo, how has that worked out? They have to have a huge military, they have to make their young people oppress another people, they live in fear, they are regarded as war criminals by many people around the world.

They'd have been better off just living in the US.

The original story is pure BS. Fake News. Then again, I suppose some delusional people might actually believe it.

Ukraine is out of men. Most have already been killed. A victory for Ukraine is no longer possible. They’ll be lucky to achieve anything but an unconditional surrender.  As for Russia, they’re taking their time. A war of attrition, as they say. They’re now in war mode and have an Army of almost a million men.  Neither Ukraine nor NATO could succeed in a ground war. The US certainly doesn’t have that type of military at this point, and NATO members could field only a small number of troops. And you don’t do that overnight.

I disagree only that "most have already been killed". Plenty that ran away to other countries than stay and die in Zelensky's war.

Economies built on death and destruction. No thanks. I'd rather have economies built on making things people want.

War is evil, companies that make death are evil, IMO.

I have no problem with making defensive weapons, but not offensive ones like 2,000 lb bombs.
