Thanks guys
Yes I have now left Asia and Latin America but am currently in Spain visiting family before the U.K.
One thing that im looking into at the moment and would like an opinion on is Gibraltar. I know that if I work there I am eligible for the nhs but does anyone know if working there will help me get back in the system in any way when I return to the U.K.?
Just thinking it might make things a bit easier...

Personally I find it much easier to simply add the Thai apps to your device.
Plenty on the Google play store.
Thanks guys

hey guys, ive tried a few different addons for Thai tv but a lot don't work.
The Israel one is ok but is there an addon solely for Thai tv and perhaps movies? There must be one out there...

What is it you wish to do exactly?
NI card - knowing your Number is sufficient I never had a NI card longer than a year. Just in memory now.
Yes that's the things, it's been such a while, I've pretty much forgotten just about everything lol

Fella I aint the OP!!
Have you been on the chang or something? go back to the first page and have a read stops you making yourself look quite as stupid....
I have never asked here or anywhere else about work doctors or 'getting back into the system' never needed to see
Looks like the comprehension comment in post 61 is 100% right though.....
OP you need anything just drop me a PM and I will be happy to help
Thanks mate much appreciated :-)

I've got a family member just doing some checks now but I've still got my bank accounts and my local gp confirmed that I'm still on the books, just need to go in with id.
Tbh i am looking forward to it. 11 years is a long time with coronation street hahaha

Just a quick question chaps...
ive just spoken to a family member and they suggested I could use their address for things before I get back.
is there anything I can get sent there before I get back that would help the process speed up a bit, e.g ni card, p45 etc...? Is it possible to do any of this outside of the U.K. Or because of the time length not really possible..?
Thanks guys

God how sad is that! These are the losers thailand wants out!!
I actually replied to this lol, but then realized completely pointless, time to hit the edit button.
for everyone else, thanks again, yes the first couple of weeks will be tough but once I get an apartment, job etc it will soon fall into place.
thanks again

Bloody hell lol, I'm terrified!
to be honest I've been living between Mexico and Thailand for the last few years with a quick stint in OZ. The main reason for going back is that my nan has just turned 97 and has started to show certain signs she didn't before so I'd rather just spend some time with her. While I'm there I would like to get some stuff done on the NHS, however the move probably won't be be forever, who knows though.
As for running out of money, that is a concern. Even though my job here is ok, once you hit the ground over there it quickly goes so yes that is something I've got to consider.
Up north is a lot cheaper that down south.
UK is a slog, I agree and it can be bloomin freezing in more ways than one but it's something want to do, at least until October.
Finally the type of work I'll be looking for eventually is in education. I've been an English teacher for a while however the last few years been more involved in the advocacy/admin side of higher ed. However I'm pretty much up for some hard-graft when I get back, whatever that is. Used to be in demo many years ago.
cheers for all the feedback guys, lots to help out.

As long as you've got an NI number you can work and as long as you've got money of your own you'll get by until you find work, trying to get benefits will be a problem.
As a starting points, tell the Revenue that you're back and resident, you wont have to pay back tax but the fact that you're once again resident for tax purposes will score you some points with the benefits people and the NHS, should you wish to use them.
Register with a doctor, it will help with NHS if you ned to use it. If you have a UK license, get it up to date and legal (both useful points for future benefits/NHS usage)
Many benefits are subject to the Habitual Residency Test which determines if you are or are not UK resident, as a citizen you should have no problem with it but you need to be aware it exists. Also, there's a waiting or exclusion period with some benefits based on residency.
Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) is designed to help people like you, go see them and listen to what they have to say.
A useful read here: http://www.ageuk.org.uk/Documents/EN-GB/Factsheets/FS25_Returning_from_abroad_fcs.pdf?epslanguage=en-GB?dtrk=true
That's all I can think of right now - good luck.

Hey guys
I'm returning to the U.K. afte 11 years of living abroad in countries such as Australia, Mexico and most recently Thailand.
I have only been back once and basically have nothing there. I have a bank account which is registered to my old address but a, basically starting from scratch.
What I'm wondering is about work, doctors etc, which is the best way to get back in the system?
Do I need to contact any departments etc who can help me integrate back in the system?
if anyone has been through this or can offer any advice that would be great.
cheers guys

Not sure about rhinoplasty, but I had a septoplasty (moving the septum due to it being off center and partially obstructing one nasal passage) with Dr. Pasakorn at BNH Hospital in Bangkok. I also had other ENT issues with which he dealt and I give him high marks. He showed skill with my operation, has a good bedside manner, and won't talk down to you if you ask questions.
That said, not sure he does rhinoplasties, which are more cosmetic in nature, no?
Thanks for your reply guys
tbh I have to see a doctor again as I've forgotten exactly what it is I need but basically my nose needs to be reset and unblocked; could be septoplasty.
i live in Mexico City now but after living in Thailand know that for many procedures it is cheaper and better.

Hey guys
i broke my nose about 13 years ago na stupidly didn't wear the brace. Progressively my sinuses have got worse and im now losing smell on one side of the my nose which is due to the bone or flesh perhaps blocking it.
ive decided to get this sorted and am researching the price and best doctor to do this, can anyone help? I'm quite sure I'll need it rebeokwn and then scraped/cleaned but any advice would be great!
thanks guys

You made this post in another thread:
Any good Thai Language schools near The Mall Bangkapi or Central Grand Rama 9 ? I live on the top side of Airport Link, and heading south of that is a commute nightmare.
I know of one in RCA but have not heard anything good on it.
So, I am assuming you are looking for a school in that area. Is that correct?
That post wasn't me

Correct me if I'm wrong for stating the obvious but if your wife is Thai why not just get her to legally register as a sole-trader and have you as an employee? Is that possible in Thailand?
-
Anyone? If this thread is in the wrong place could a mod move it please?

Truly,i was in a film here a few years ago.It was called 'Teddy Bear'
It was a Swedish/Thai film industry . It ca be googled. It was about a guy who was looking after his old mum,and came here for a holiday. He lost track of the girl, and came back to find her.He was a big body builder. There were 3 of us and we had to go to the Crystal Palace hotel in Nacluer. We had to do screen tests. It was great. We saw the star but not allowed to talk to him.We had to play the part of drunken felangs on soi 7.i had 3 Thai birds hanging off me for one scene. My last scene was that i had to walk across the road on to beach road. Were were treated well,we ate on the set in the restaurant they set up and we got paid 1500 B each.We didnt have to have work permits, because it was parts that only ferangs could play.
It was a great night.Good fun, good food and we got paid at the end of the night in cash.
Gonna look for this tonight! :-)

Hey guys
i rewatched "the rocket" the other day (great movie btw) and it got me thinking, what's the independent movie scene in Thailand like?
Can anyone recommend any decent film studios, directors or movies to watch which may come under that "independent, arty" kind of umbrella??
The rocket is actually a Laos/Ozzie movie but that kind of mood, bracket if that makes sense
thanks guys

Not doubting your story but I have not seen it myself, never seen a majority only thai bar in Sydney either
Anywhere past Central on Pitt St, quite a few around.
Thing is I never thought I'd see it this blatent. After living in Thailand it just seemed so "Thai"; my friends could be confused with Malaysian but it was literally an experience I had never had before , even in Thailand. Was really upset for them as they could clearly feel it and for no reason. It was literally like half the bar jumped on the bandwagon, real shame as I hv so many Thai friends that would be embarrassed to do that
Perhaps it's Sydney...

Hey guys
Tonight I realised how racist some Thais (in a group) can be racist outside of Thailand.
I'm originally from uk but lived in Sydney for the past few years. I lived in Thailand 6 years previous to that. Tonight I witnessed my first blatent Thai racism outside of Thailand.
I went to a bar with 5 Bangladeshi lads who I have studied with (all completed bachelors in accounting & law ) which happened to be a predominantly Thai person bar. After being asked to vacate a table for some random Thais to sit down they then wouldn't allow for us to stand at the bar. After going to the gambling hall they then asked to leave the area and stand outside to which they then locked us out : bear in mind this was our first drink there ; third of the night.
The lads I wad with were dark skinned and observing the way they spoke to my friends I could really see how deep this nonsense goes. In a country outside of certain things we all know is true about the land of smiles , to see that openly was gut-wrenching.
I know it's only a small minority that think like this but bringing it over to oz and perhaps the uk ( to add to what is already there) is quite hurtful. And yes it's everywhere but to see bar and restaurant staff doing this was a bit too much.
This isnt the first time I've spoke to a "Thai" bar in Sydney about this, in fact it's the 3rd, are some "white" Thais really that moddy coddled ?

Sadly, the granite floor will get off scot-free. Its father is the floor of the senate chamber and its mother was a well known fashion catwalk. It refused to take a hardness test after the incident, despite quite clearly being stoned at the time, and it's rumoured that several bottles of an alcohol based polish were discretely removed from the scene shortly after the incident.
The granite floor will be subsequently hammered and fined 500 thb.Clearly a murder where his body was assaulted with the lobby granite floor
Why?
-
The thing is with these accidents , from what I've noticed before is people throwing water at speeding bikes and knocking them off. I know there's drink and other associated reasons but I really feel a lot of Thais really cannot see consequence; this goes through the whole of society and situation(s).

Thanks for the replies guys
Well, I have a place in Spain which is about 25 mins from the border. Atm the flights r so cheap back to the U.K that it kind of seems like a good option, working in Gib, living in Spain then nipping back to U.K. every couple of weeks...
