It's getting boring with these provinces announcing one by one the extention of the ban on alcohol until the 30th. It will be a nationwide ban in the end as it was for Songkran. This is the time I really start hating people in charge. It's full of ignorant bastards there.

The point of the ban during Songkran is to limit the amount of drunken or social parties where many people congregate and where only one infected could spread the Corona virus to the others. By encouraging self and immediate family isolation, the risk of new cases is lowered.
Common sense, really.
Until the 30th of April? Is that still Songkran? Overreacting by government in my book. I hope Thai people remember when the vote next time.

With the current numbers that are falling day by day there is no need for a new COVID hospital. Anyway it's good to have one, but no need for showing off.

Why? There are basically no new cases of COVID 19 in Pattaya. Why are they doing this? It's just plain stupid.

Why? If there no new cases why do you make it worse for people and destroy their lives? This government is going berserk. They should adjust their policies according to the situation, not just blindly close and ban everything. It's like became a competition among provinces to ban the most they can now. With the numbers that are reported lately about COVID 19, thye should start lifting their restrictions. However, it would be wise to keep some preventive measures, such as wearing masks, social distancing and ban of large crowds for now.

Why do they start this campaign when the natural cycle of rain is coming? I feel a misuse of public money in this instance.

Belarus has also taken the path of the Brazilian president. The life goes on there with football and hockey matches with live audience. The schools are still open. However there was a sudden increase in cases during the last week.
Another country of interest is Turkmenistan where corona virus was banned from the country. No news or public talk is allowed. Wearing a mask in public is punishable by jail. And of course corona virus cases is zero over there as it is not allowed over there ????.

It rained at my place today, at the border of Nonthaburi and Pathum Thani, long due. It fell about 15 mm of rain. I really enjoyed it. I hope it starts raining more often from now on.

Now the governors of different provinces are competing to demonstrate who can solve COVID 19 issue as effecient as they can, so it becomes more and more ridiculuous with their new rules. Definitely over reaction from many provinces. Measures such as wearing masks and social distancing should suffice. Banning alcohol until May is unreasonable taking into consideration that Thailand is a drinking country. Do they want to make Thailand an islamic state that prohibits alcohol? Blind me. People are punished enough already with all the restrictions, why to make more?

Why so much worry when they report only 100+ cases a day? Why curfew? The numbers are pathetic. Life should go back to normal with some precautions, like wearing masks and banning crowds. You don't need to shut down the country and destroy so many lives that don't have any income.

Selling bottles of 70% alcohol, just when booze is being banned or restricted.
What could possibly go wrong?
The question is, is it ethanol?

South Korea is the best example how to tackle this virus so far in the world.

Where in the world are they doing mass testing? In the UK, for example, the guidelines recommend staying at home if you have symptoms. It's not possible for ordinary people to get tested there unless they are exhibiting severe symptoms.
South Korea, Germany and Russia do extensive testing. By doing that you can see the enemy. If you don't do enough testing you are fighting against the windmills. That's the mistake most counties make. Thailand chose the latter.

This way minimizes it getting completely out of control while you're waiting to see if half measures are having any impact. We have enough data to know quarantine measures work. Less clear, is what level of quarantine is required to maintain an orderly spread, while things like mask production and test kits ramp up.
I agree with you, but I start doubting that these draconian measures that destroy Thai economy and many lives are indeed necessary with such a small number of cases that they are reporting. It doesn't make sense for 100 people infected a day to stop the whole economy. I've been following this virus from day one. And now I'm having seconds thoughts.

This is good news but such measures are not enough. Thailand needs to find a way to do mass testing, preferably with the newly developed SUPER QUICK on the spot results type that don't even need a painful nose swab, and they also need to do massive blood tests for antibodies to begin to understand the percentage of the people here that have already been infected and recovered. Social distancing combined with shut downs combined with massive testing combined with contact tracing and then there is hope to open the country up sooner with fewer deaths and less long term economic damage. You need it all. Not just one part. Also of course it goes without saying get those medical people enough PPE.
That's right. Mass testing, which Thailand refuses to do. They keep throwing troll numbers each day around 100+. It became tedious. They are not testing enough. You can tell, they don't want to. However, by each day with their pathetic numbers they still implement more and more restrictions! I'm confident that behind the scene the numbers are much higher and the burden to healthcare system is enourmous.

Norway tested 73,000 per day before they decided not to mass test anymore three weeks ago as it had no effect. Now they currently test around 3,000 people per day, which only includes the critically ill, people in risk groups and people in critical work positions (medical staff etc). Norway also only hospitalize the once who needs help. Everyone else are in self-quarantine, everything non-essential is closed, people stay home, nor do anyone else get tested despite having symptoms.
So, is Norway a good example to follow? Or South Korea who proved mass testing is the only way to stop the virus, as the enemy becomes visible.

Oh dear! The ban is getting closer and closer to Bangkok. If Bangkok bans, then the rest will follow. Horror!

It looks from the latest news that more and more people are dying outside hospitals because of the virus. It shows how far the numbers are from reality.

The rate of infection didn't slow down. The problem is that Thailand is not testing enough to show the real picture. Testing less than 700 people a day will give you similar results of around 100 people people a day. We could do that forever. The numbers will be the same tomorrow, and then after tomorrow if they still test less than 700 people a day.

Bangkok booze ban: Extension decision Monday
in Bangkok News
Posted
Of course, the ban will be extended for whatever stupid reasons they come up.
It might be the reduction in road fatalities, but this is largely due to the lockdown and less cars on the road. Nothing to do with the alcohol ban.
Or they believe people will socialize less due to the ban. But the lockdown closed all the bars and pubs anyway. Those people who want to drink find a way and buy their booze illegally so half of the added tax is not going to be cashed by the government. (They are in the loss)
What is wrong with people having a drink with their dinner? It's like an islamic state now. I've never despised a Thai government to this level.
