  1. "airlift condoms and other emergency health supplies".

All my life I never knew condoms were emergency health supplies. How stupid of me. Back in the 60s we dropped "emergency health supplies" to the Hmong in Laos but they forgot the condoms.

You don't understand, these condoms should be used as life jackets, or buoyancy objects in order to stay afloat.

  2. I understand your overly PC approach to editing when 'we' make defamatory comments about out host nation/als

But do you need to hug trees over these obviously dubious individuals from outside Thailand.

    A spade is a spade.

I got 3 emails this month. I'm gonna be RICH!!!! LOL.

    they ARE scammers.

Some posts deleted. Lets stay on topic, not consider every Nigerian a drugs dealer, etc, etc, etc.

You are lucky you only get 3 e-mails a month, I get heaps more, so I also hope they rot in hell.

  3. Unfortunately there are some wider issues here, but I'm certainly not suggesting that this lady should receive any lenient treatment.

overlooking the fact that lots of families would have been happy to adopt that little healthy girl..

Did she even contact the father and let him know she was pregnant or ask him if he wanted the child who could have been raised in the UK? What was her background? I have my suspicions she may have been in the adult entertainment industry. Maybe she didn't want the new man to know that she already had a relationship with another farang and the child may have revealed a little to much. Just wonder if other thai women from the industry would have more than one farang in tow at a time. A totally horrible story and total disrepect for human life..

Are you for real??? 80% of all bar girls have more than one Farang supporting them one way or another.

  4. I do not understand how/why the taxi system works in Bangkok, but onceyou head to the resort towns of Samui, Phuket, Pataya, Hua Hin and so on, it ismafia controlled. Is the government really so weak that they can't get the taxisto obey the law? Are the police really that corrupted that they don't seem tocare? Are the people so cowed that they just can't stand together and say"No More!"? I am glad it's in the news a lot lately; hopefully itwill embarrass enough people that something will be done about it.

Government weak on this point? Yes

    Police corrupt? Yes

People cowed? Yes and they have their own pick-ups/Honda Waves

    Will it change? No.

I give you an example, I once had a business on Koh Lanta and problems with some local business people,

(Thai Chinese Mafia), the local police would not get involved with it and we had to call the police in Krabi to come and sort it out.

And mind you we had never ever had any problems with the police, they were on our side, but afraid of the local Mafia.

  5. Perhaps the credit-card pack might also include an educational-leaflet, explaining the hard facts of what happens if you fail-to-repay the debt on-time, and are left losing up-to-70% of the crop you've just grown, and the other 30% has gone to pay the owner of the land their rent ?

Helping farmers gain access to fertiliser or better-tools is laudable, making it easier for them to take-on debt which they later can't repay is not, credit-cards per-se are not a bad thing but can easily lead the financially-naive into long-term debt or the clutches of the mafia-lenders.

Previous loan-schemes have often gone wrong, and required bailing-out, what will be different this time, apart from having a nice plastic-card ? B)

You have hit the nail on the head mate.

  6. Amazing Thailand!

Or whatever crap they're saying now.

And the Swed's still keep coming by the droves, it shows how many swede's read newspapers and dont care, just hope for the best.

Must be nice to have a holiday not knowing if you are coming back home in one piece.

  7. The meeting became the forum for the strongest comments yet by the Phuket-based honorary consuls, who urged Phuket Provincial Police Commander Pekad Tantipong to take action and bring to justice tuk-tuk and taxi drivers who assault foreign tourists.

Good to see this problem being aired once gain. Will progress be made... unlikely.

    Never, it's already forgotten.

  8. So let me get this straight. We are not allowed to drink in police stations any more? They really are taking away the fun. At least we can still empty our suitcases on the floor of the police department and storm out.

I think this is a bloody good idea, I hope they get read of all the street stalls that sell alcohol, better sooner than later.

  9. And to kick it off lets make it harder for the tourist by insisting on pre booked accomadation with their tourist visas.

Yes and make it harder and harder for us ex pats to stay, who spend anything from 30.000 - 60.000 bath every month of off season or not. But I guess we are only small flies and not tolerated any longer.

  10. Depending on which entry point you used, you were lucky to get away with the $20 charge ,Had Lek and Poipet usually insist on 1200 baht.

Poipet has a habit of refusing to give you an entry /departure card insisting that they fill it in for you for a 100 baht fee.

    Just another scam.

If you are intending to go to Cambodia via Poipet, AVOID the crooks that wait like hawks

and tell you that you only get Cambodian visa now on the Thai side of the border and charge you 1200bath.

Just ignore them and walk over to the Cambodian side, pay your $20 and of you go.

I have been just recently and fell for those crooks also, because they told me that the rules have changed.

bullshit nothing has changed, it is just another rip off, Good luck.

  11. Interesting.

Lopburi? Mario2008? Could you make light of this? Is this just to do with Cambodia?

Or is the Thai Embassy in Cambodia simply the first to heed the order and revise their website?

The first reports we have were from Phom Penh, Cambodia (see the thread linked to in the OP). Our contact at the the visa section of MFA confirm this morning that they have contacted all Thai Consulates and Embassies about new requirements. I don't know more details at the moment, but guess we will have more info, and reports, after the weekend.

The Thais are just making it harder and harder to stay here and spend our dollars. Next they going to drop all fees again in order to get us back again.I dont think they know what they want. As some mention, Cambodia is LOTS easier, first get your normal 30 day visa than go to a travel office and get a ONE YEAR visa without any problems or papers needed.

  12. I would go crazy if I got worked up every time a thai official says or does something stupid.

I know from my experience with many different Thai consulates that very few follow the guidelines exactly and rarely are two the same.

I suggest people relax and wait and see what comes of this, my guess is it will be nothing, and all this ranting and raving may end up proving a bit silly.

IF YOU LIVED IN THAILAND LONG ENOUGH< YOU WOULD KNOW BETTER. I WAS IN CAMBODIA IN JULY AND WAS ASKED FOR AN EXIT AIRLINE TICKET FROM THAILAND.

  13. How does this happen in plain view of neighbors? How does this happen in a supposedly guarded Luxury Villa? How do 12 people go un-noticed? He obviously annoyed someone too much, but seriously! How, why, why, why.... It's mind boggling. This illustrates just how helpful Thai's are not in these situations.

Here is another reason why I dont ever go to Phuket again, let alone live there,

there are more Gangsters than dissent people, same goes for Pattaya

  14. There are many non-Bhudist Thais working in Phuket as Tuk Tuk drivers. Most of them are scared to fight one on one,so they group beat tourists. The tailors are over aggressive, the food is disproportionately expensive, the girls want too much money. Above all, the business community seems to turn a blind eye to these problems, defends the perpetrators, and condemns critics.

Beaches, and access to the islands is all Phuket has going for it.

How long does it take for tourist's to wake up and boycott Phuket, as the guy above mentioned, everything is forbidding expensive and to go on holiday to be fighting with those mafia Tuk Tuk drivers, forget it there are so many other places in this world to see

and a lot cheaper. But if you like to get reaped of please dont stop coming to Phuket.
