  1. I just don't get it! What is the big deal? You do something wrong and pay a on the spot fine, just a few $.

    No massive fine.

    No points on your license.

    No form filling.

No court appearance (for a more serious offence)

    No police station visit.

    No BS western bureaucracy.

    Just get over it.

I agree, it's brilliant over here.. the traffic policing.. ok, sometimes you might have to pay 200 Baht (3 pounds - cost of a pint of lager in UK) for something you haven't donw.. but most of the time, you get let off.. Before I left the UK, I got caught doing 33 mph in a 30 mph zone and got fined, ponts and all sorts. Over here: Got caught doing 140kmh on a road that definitely shouldn't have been that.. got pulled over, the copper says "I was driving in the far right hand lane and I should've been in the first lane - 200 Baht please" I said "with pleasure guvnor".. he didn't even mention the fact that I was driving like a lunatic...

Some people on this forum don't know how lucky they've got it and are just so interested in slagging this place off.. it's great!!! Love Thailand and love the corrupt police, you can get away with almost anything :o

  2. This is very worrying. I need to open a savings account in Thailand soon and I was opting for the BB.Not now.

I suppose that these accounts that have been targeted are not in Thai names? The names of foreigners .

I would be grateful if posters would indicate which Bank they have not encountered this kind of theft from.

I will open the account in the wifes name ,,we have the same surname though,,which is not Thai.

    K. Bank (Kasikorn)

  3. Has anyone tried the Orange Seafood place on the 2nd floor ?

    Or is it closed already....

Yes, I tried it. They have a wide variety on their menu, from Turkish to Thai to Indian. the food is not bad, but very pricey for what it is really. However the open top restaurant is quite nice and relaxing, sort of place to take a girl on a first date..

  4. Anyone with either good or bad experiences with using this place for auto repairs?

I lease my honda from a Bangkok based company and so I have to get my car serviced avery 10k from the Honda dealer Pattaya.. Always good service and cheap. Usually take it in on a Saturday morning and get it back in the afternoon... depends what you're after, as I have only ever had mine serviced.. but no complaints from me..

  5. you did the right thing and I'm glad the lad's back.

What you will find on this site, is a load of bitter, bored and negative pricks like the first few poster's.. who don't actually read the question and just give unhelpful comments.. They're bitter and bored cause all they have to do each day is teach Thai kids how to say apple in English, which would bore the f&$k out of me too.

  6. Negative no, sarcastic yes - at least in my case. But why not place an free classified ad in BK Magazine, that seems to be the type of media that is into music, bands, djs and the like.

Cheers, I agree.. Thats how we got the bassist.. Am doing it next week in the BK mag..

  7. There are some right negative pricks on Thai visa.. I didn't put the post up to hear about Freddy Mercury, work permits and how shit Oasis are.. I put it up to find a lead guitarist.

Just for the record (no pun intended). We set up the band from finding each other through ads on the internet and newspapers.. so there are people about.. The band is not meant for playing at some country road type place, but to get famous in markets like Japan..

So if you know of anyone out there who can play lead and wants to get famous, tell em to pm me..

    Big up

  8. We need a lead guitairst for a new band we are setting up in Bangkok. We currently have a singer/frontman, guitairst, bassist and drummer. All in the mid to late twenties and British.

We are starting a serious band, not really a small bar band. We have own material. Influences; Oasis, Verve, Roses etc.

We have a rehearsel room and potential record company interest.

    Please pm me.. Cheers,

  9. Basically, I have visited most Indian tailor shops in and around Pattaya and they all seem more interested in selling any old shirts instead of listening to what you actually want, which is the difference between a sales man and a tailor.

When I visited Next, I took a look at their materials (which were all mostly second rate crap), I told him I wasn't really keen and I wanted a quality material and wouldn't mind paying extra if he could get hold of some. I even had an example with me of a shirt from England. With this, he just tried again to offer me a shirt, with the material I didn't like, and tried to haggle the price down.. twice.. With this I made an exit as he clearly wasn't listening to me.

I then went to Burda, K. Wanchai (the owner) took one look at my example shirt that I had, told me what was wrong with it(which were exactly my thoughts), then told me he didn't have any of that material, however he could get some, but it would cost me more for the better material.. All of this was said, without me really saying too much..

He has since made me some really good quality shirts and I am very, very happy with them.

    Spot the difference!

I said to the gent. to mention my name, as then Wanchai (Burda) would probably assume that he would be looking for quality also..

  10. I have done a lot of research on this and spent quite a bit of money, had suits and shirts made from a number of tailors in Pattaya, some of them not even worn as they were crap. Basically, all the Indian tailors, Next, Classic etc or all pretty sub standard and cheap, but ok if thats what your looking for.

After a few years here and a lot of research, I now use two shops. I get my shirts from Burda Tailors. opposite Friendship Supermarket, Pattaya Tai. It is owned by a guy called Wanchai. Not so cheap, but very good quality and he is a real tailor, as they also make wedding dresses etc. If you go, say I gave the recommendation (Tim), he'll sort you out.

I have also bought a suit from a tailor who has a small shop next to the pool at the Garden Cliff resort and spa, Naklua soi 16. He's a Bangladeshi and I was happy with the fit and material.

Tell these guys exactly what you want. I emphasised that quality was more important to me than price and these (especially Burda) are the only ones in Pattaya who understood me.

  11. Speak to Guy (English) at Music Travel, at the row of shops on Pattaya North road going down towards the dolphin roundabout (on the right). HE has always worked really hard to get the best deal for me

Sorry on the leftr hand side just before the roundabout

  12. Technically does the guy need a work permit to do this work, just a thought.

No, because he's not working for anyone/company, not earning money and in his own home.

Wrong! The Department of Employment and Ministry of Labour has two very clear definitions:

    1. Alien: a natural person who is not of Thai nationality.

    2. Work: to engage in work by exerting energy or using knowledge whether or not in consideration of wages or other benefit.

Sorry, I was just speaking common sense there...

  13. Swarms of Thai tradesman in Pattaya are the biggest rip off I have ever come across and on the whole they're usless as well.. So I don't blame the gent for doing it himself...

Why don't you go up there and have a word to see when he expects it to end...
