  1. I have never seen the man referred to, but i have often seen a very thin short man with short hair, a white t.shirt and always unshaven wandering around the north end of the moat with a plastic bag.

i often wonder what he is doing here.

He is the victim of a thai girl and lost everthing my wife knew him when he was fairly wealthy now she says he walks around insulting bar girls and the like and who can blame him when one cleaned him out and now he only has the plastic bag. she says he not all there now a broken man

Tragic. The fact that he insults bar girls may well be enough to prompt the TV team into action. That'll help him.... NOT.

    Friendship might though.

I'll be in Chiang Mai soon, perhaps we can compare notes.

he also seems to be a very rude man.

I have problems, we all have problems.

my husband is a big drinker.

i try to be nice to people though and my pm was polite.

You are polite. I apologise if I was a tad abrupt.

Yes he is a bit rude but they're like that here.

Big drinkers are a problem. But I think it's the things they do when they drink that are the real problem.

Does he get violent, abuse you, verbally, physically/sexually?

Does he run off after other girls or boys?

Has he got lots of money?

You need to analyse the situation carefully and I'm sure there are lots of people here who can advise, comment or help you.

The best thing is to talk about it. Get it out in the open.

    Catharsis.

    Stay strong.

  3. Thanks for the compliment.

To be considered the "Grumpiest Expat" in view of previous threads and your comments therein does not constitute a put down.

I must say that if anything it persuades me that it there are an awfull lot of vitriolic, bored, egotistical, bullying asses on TV that delight in passing there time by "chattering over the plight of others.

It'd be nice to see a genuine poster who actually wanted to help. But, then again a genuine person wouldn't post it.

Happiness ? I think I found something that might be described as that a long time ago. This is a passtime.

By the bye lisa, obscure PMs are a bit pointless. If you got some thing to say, say it out loud :o

  5. petards, hoist, on, your, own. The caring sharing face of humanity.

    Look,

a sad, desperate, weird, odd, ugly, different, poor, foreign, grumpy, - insert as appropriate - person. Lets post it on TV. They love that stuff.

    Jandajoy,

Take it easy. The OP was trying to help the guy for crying out loud.

Your still upset about someone sitting on someone else's favorite stool?

(Someone's cranky and needs a nap)

    Cranky maybe. Nap no.

    N.B.

The OP didn't try and help the guy out. They "thought abut it".

Upset about the "Grumpy" thing? Nope just saddened.

Take it easy? nope not if I disagree with some thing and feel I have the right to express my opinion. It's a forum isn't it?

  6. to reply the OP, my guess is he that had a thai gf or wife before; and they (her family) lived happily ever after.

    :o:D:D:D:D:D:DB):D

And he's a lost soul and that's really funny is it?

None of us really know if he is a 'lost soul' or if any of this was caused by the above mentioned Thai girl, it could quite easily be that he was addicted to drugs/on the run/etc/etc so he could be very unlucky or he could of caused this hiself.

In answer to your question yes my wife and I found the comment funny.

  7. Hi all,

I've spen a while searching but there doesn't seem to be any up to date info around. So if anyone can help I'd appreciate it.

We're looking at a bit of trip down to LuangPrabang for a couple of days. We live near Chang Kong but the boss and I are having difficulty getting info.

So far we have a quote of 2500 for the 2 day boat. They wanted to charge me 4100 'till the wife argued em down!

We're also thinking of driving down in our old hilux. But conflicting reports coming in on insurance etc.

    Any advice greatly appreciated.

The other thing is accommodation in LP. Any up to date recommendations or warnings. We'd like a decent place, a/c, ensuite etc.

Plus anything else that's recent. We'll reciprocate with a report of the trip when we get back.

    Cheers

  8. Perhaps we could start up an investigation. Every afternoon somebody gets close to him and checks him out and then people take turns following him.

    We monitor his movements.

    We take photos of him.

We post said photos on the net.

You know, get a real Thaivisa caring sharing thing going. :o

  10. Finally, be warned, if this does go to the press it could really back fire.

There's no real story in a grumpy old bloke.

There's a hel_l of a story in a mass of moronic, bored expats beating up on individuals that don't fit.

    Jandajoy,

Please make good on your threat to alert the media, I'm sure they are chomping at the bit to get a story about someone planning on sitting down to breakfast.

    Be warned???...are you joking??

Call em' up....let us know how that's going for you.

Mate, please tell me where I said or even implied that I had any interest or intention of going to the media?

  11. Hi Guys

Being new here i am not sure whether this post will be viewed as going off topic. If so I apologise but I do want to make a point on this issue of mental health and OCD.

The inference in more than one post is that OCD and mental illness can either be self inflicted or self generated and can be dealt with by way of a good slap.

Firstly, I do not believe that the GOM has OCD through his actions. There would liely be more evidence from his habits than wanting a specific seat.

My daughter suffers from clinical depression and OCD. The OCD has resulted in one suicide attempt through the absolute frustration of the condition, made worse by the depression.

The depression is diagnosed now as a chemical imbalance in the body/brain. No amount of slapping or telling her to pull herself together would correct the imbalance. Thankfully now, through a mixture of medication(which rebalances the chemicals) and good counselling, supportive family and friends, things are pretty well under control for the most of the time.

Whatever we say, whatever our Myers Briggs profile tells us about ourselves and how we approach life, please understand that Mental illness is a real condition and should not be taken lightly.

    Thanks

    T

An excellent and relevent post. My thoughts are with you having been involved with similar events. Its a nightmare that never goes away.

  12. Yes - The Australian government have a pretty good online system to register through DFAT I think. They do a good job for what it is. During the Tsunami they rang my next of Kin (parents down in OZ) to see if I was OK when they couldn't get in contact with me.

May come in handy at a later point....

THat's really good, well done aus.

i've got dual nationality and it has to be said that th aussies are a lot better organised than the brits, as if any of this really matters.
