  1. Too bad for many milk is a no go..we lose our ability to really digest it

well after childhood. Goat's milk may be a little easier to disgest but I

haven't seen it sold outside Bangkok.

One doctor I spoke to thinks milk shoudn't even be sold.

Why? Doctors I talk to recommend at least a large glass of (skimmed/light) milk per day. I'm 46 and have never had any problems digesting milk, drinking at least half a liter of the stuff daily...

Ob topic: Don't see what's all the fuss about grape nuts though, quite happy with my standard muesli cereal.

Well some people can handle it better than others....some people can

smoke all their lives with no problems too - that doesn't mean smoking is

good for health. Asians in partricular are poor at digesting milk it is said.

I know at least one study that links milk to heart disease and

it is strange that we are the only animal that consumes milk of another

animal and past childhood. I clearly feel bad after drinking milk

but fermented dairy like cheese or yougurt affects me less strongly.

As to the cereal well I believe in paleodiet...eat as little processed stuff

as possible - eat naturally...avoid carbohydrates as much as possible..

So I avoid cereals and stick to eggs, fish, occasional rare beef(good quality

too expensive), some veggies like brocoli, watermelon..........

and to wash it all down..Singa beer :o

  2. All of this is fine and well.. I took it in Korea for years....

no side effects...hard to say if my health was better for

    it....

But isn't this thread academic? It is almost impossible to get

HGH(especially the injectable weekly dose that is cheap in Korea)

    in Thailand.

    I have no idea why.

  3. Definitely an acquired taste...that I never acquired. Tried it a few times in the States and could never understand what the attraction of it was...I'll give it a pass.

i could never understand what the attraction of cereals in general is.

  4. Two days after taking the injection(and some vitamins he gave me)

I have noticed an improvement in digestion and energy levels...and

my scrotum hasn't shrunk either :o

It takes longer than 2 days, but it will happen if you've been given an injection. When the body has an outside source of testosterone it gives up its own production.

Well I'm not sure about the point of your post as

surely if you are taking injections it means that your

body is no longer producing testosterone at youthful levels...

  5. After reading this tread, I find most replies are from european frang, my gawd, talk about cheap charlies. the amercan dollars has fallen so badly, but I love the LOS and will pay what is needed. Come on you cheap basxxds.. STOP your whinning..

Well I am Canadian but paid in Korean won..That doesn't change the fact, as mentioned

by the person before you, that salaries have not gone up for many farang. If this place

becomes as expensive as Phuket then that will be it for many.

    Cambodia anyone?

  6. Just out of interest, does anyone know where blood tests can be done - other than the main hospitals. Are there any known clinics? If so, where?

Hey dudes... Dr Oliver will do them. And he assures me that feminization(and other probs)

    only occurs in overdose..

  7. Talking about the front of Garden Plaza, what are those Thai hand shakers up to? Anyone know? I can't count how many times I've been offered a hand out there.

One of those guys has been there for 15 years that i know of. It seems they are deaf and mute. If you accept thier hand they give you a card asking for a donation. Must be viable way of earning a living!

id pay my mrs to become deaf and mute.........she already puts her hand out for a donation :o

    Wow reading Thaivia

reminds me of my youth as a philosophy major..........

no matter what topic you started with, it always got sidetracked into something else :D

  8. Are you all alcoholics? Reading these topics and the hand wringing that seems a prerequisite, I wonder if you are all boys or men. It's sad how many of your lives revolve around alcohol.

    Go read a book.

The books I read are so wonderful I need to celebrate with a beer.

Or sometimes they are so awful I need a beer to cry in.

  9. Yes you know who I mean...The three(?) preachers who like to scream

about Jesus and God - in English!....How much do these guys think Thais will

    understand of that?

Aren't dudes(duds?) like that suposed to be good at languages?

Well maybe they were just preaching to the tourists :o (in which case they should learn

    Russian)

  10. I've been asked to post this:

Do you like the beach? Do you like Jomtien?

Do you like chess between 2 and 6 pm?

If the answer to all of these is yes you may want to

come to the latest chess club in Pattaya area//

PLACE: On the beach across from Sea Breeze Hotel, specifically across from sea breeze restaurant

This is on about Jomtien 15 or so..about 1/3 the way from the "entrance" to Jomtien

TIME: Most days between 2:30 and 6

It is an informal club with some professional boards but no clocks as of yet(feel free to bring)

Players from beginner to master level play there..

    So come on down!

  11. So I bet some of you have seen the signs with the young "Charles Atlas" type

standing with bulging muscles shown at some drugstores around Pattaya..

"Better stamina..better libido.... " is the gist of the ad, and there is even

a questionaire to see if you have low testesterone.

It is however, not cheap and you have to inject it(which to me

    sounds like it is authentic).

So, does it work? What do doctors think

    of all the buzz?

  12. I think that RATS are a big problem for most (or maybe all) food shops in Thailand :o

    Pattaya46

Absolutely, and cockroaches. It is almost impossible to keep these critters out when you have food present even in small quantities. Just one of the little irritations of living in the tropics although they do, of course, exist worldwide but are more prevalent due to poor hygene.

Geez, don't Thai cats do any work around here? :D

  13. The rooms are awful. There are better quality ones all over the place for 500 baht. The idiots will keep coming though because it's mentioned on Stickman (and Lonely Planet?).

Sorry but I am going to have call you on this - please name one.

Top Thai Hotel between 2nd Road and Walking Street - 500 baht.

Queen Victoria Inn, Soi 6 - 500 baht.

    Both new or recently refurbished.

That's 2, there are many more.

Do they have swimming pools and English TV? :o

They both have cable TV with all the standard channels. Swimming pool in Walking Street or Soi 6... no. In any case would you trust a budget hotel to properly maintain a swimming pool?

Wow, I still can't believe the germaphobic paranoia I see in foreigners...you want pristine water?

Please don't set a foot down in the sea anywhere around here then..there will be a lot more

germs than any pool in Pattaya..Find a glacier somewhere :D

The pool is well maintained and clean..no smells and is even has a jacuzzi...

As for sheets having holes and other stuff..well I have been coming to Apex for years

and have only noticed the tiniest holes(at the end of the sheets) if at all..

For me the important thing is a firm bed, which it has. I have stayed in places from 800 to 1200

baht in Pattaya and Bangkok and believe me you don't always get what you pay for..

Ok I will check those out, I had a rather good burger in Victoria Inn last week so

that may be a good sign.

  15. I will stand by my claim that for BUDGET rooms these are very good. Try getting that in Bangkok(the white orchid at 600 comes close in NaNa).

Does the White Orchid have a swimming pool or English TV? Never heard of it. :o

No pool :D but I find that, at least in the dry season, Bangkok doesn't really need one..but maybe

    that's just me..

English TV sure, ...It's located in the street just behind A1 Steakhouse(closed since last year)

which is on that street from nana complex.. They actually have 3 branches..

And I mean on road 2 or 3 , not in the boondocks...

I am no fan of the lonely planet(they don't get Pattaya)

but in this case I will stand by my claim that for BUDGET rooms these are

very good. Try getting that in Bangkok(the white orchid at 600 comes close in NaNa).

You want a real dump , look at Ko Samui(sp) road in Bangkok

or try anywhere in Seoul(haha, not a chance)

I get the feeling there are some people here who, having retired, have forgotten

the simpler things in life...a clean room, bright, fridge no smells and not a

    friendly roach ever seen....

But yes, take the marble floor room if you can as rugs tend to get shabby...

And yes for those smart enough to read between the lines you may have noticed I was

    more venting than really complaining...

-sig: I am BugJackBaron.....a new social critic in Pattaya..

  17. Yes the famous Apex of the buffet and budget traveller almost directly behind

Mike Shopping has been hit by the economy:

    OLD price: 500 Baht/night

(10 rooms are discount at 450)

    New 600 (discount 550)

    Yes, this

bugs me...as I have stayed with them faithfully every vacation

for the last 4 years..Their buffet is good and they generally have a

pleasant staff and large clean rooms.

To their credit they did post a letter for guests saying they had no choice

but I was hoping that they could have gone a little more slowly.

They must be really struggling..their new sign says 550 but that is just the ten discount

rooms..they can't even tell the truth...

Sadly, in this price range their is nothing on 2nd road(or 3rd) that doesn't smell

    like cat piss :o

    I will however consider Jomtien..

  18. I confess to liking things that are expensive in ALL of Asia - Korea, Japan,(not sure about China)

Thailand - if you can get cheese at all it will be expensive(no crappy processed stuff I mean)

Villa Market has better selection than friendship here...

    But both are expensive...

High quality German n brown and pompernickel bread..Friendship is a little

better than Villa but hardly worth the extra time for me (currently staying in Apex)

Yougurt....some good local stuff that is only 20 baht in Vila..less selection in Friendship.

Also a great selection of foreign yogurt in Villa..

    -sig

It is beyond me why anyone would shop at this store, save for the occassional item that you can't find elsewhere. Their prices are ridiculous for identical items you can find at Friendship. The only time I go there now is to pick up a jar of Pataks curry paste on my way to Friendship to do my proper shopping.

I guess location and convenience are a factor for some, but last time I was there to get my curry I had a wander around and was chuckling to myself the whole time looking at their prices. The staff must think I am a bit nuts, especially when I always go to the checkout with only 1 item.

    Good for you.

But if everyone follows your example, there will be no customers at Villa, then none of these hard-to-find items that they DO sell. So it's rock-and-hard-place time again.

Or maybe it's time to retire and open a little shop somewhere that just sells these impossible items, at very high prices.
