If I were you, I'd go to Australia. Easy as a young person to get a work visa, so, your money will go a lot further.
Lot of places to see and lots of Asian (looking) women, if that's your thing.
I went out in Sydney last weekend. There is a whole street of Thai pubs and night clubs now to go along with the Umpteenth number of Thai restaurants and massage joints. Pretty impressive.
Why doesn't the OP save enough money for a 6 month stay. Short enough to make it easy to fit back in to western life, long enough to get sick of the place.

The last time I was in southern Germany it was stinking bloody hot. High 20s to low 30s.

Thai weddings are indeed a strange beast. Everyone rolls in and has a photo with the bride and groom which ultimately takes up half the ceremony. As you say everyone talks over the top of speeches. Come and go when you please.

These figures must be the city populations not the urban population?
For example Manchester has a population of 520,215 however the metropolitan population is 2,553,379

So you don't know anyone in australia? Maybe post a job on airtasker and they can recieve and send internationally via aus post

Unless I've missed it I can't believe yesterdays NRL hasn't got a mention somewhere in the Sports forum. What an amazing game! I don't know how accessible it was in Europe and the UK but catch a replay if you can.

Knowing I'm Australian they ask often if I play football...European football.
So many times, and no one thinks to check what we Aussies in the south play.....a much harder and faster game than that played by any other Farang (Union not included).
They have no idea about any of my past or home and this includes many of the so called intelligent well educated Thais.
Far more people play Football in Australia than egg ball.
Football is a great way to initially connect with Thais actually.

I'd say this is much closer to actual figures.

Go to hotelscombined and have a look. Theres sure to be a decent 3-4 star hotel away from the riff raff and farang kee noks

I do feel sorry for you OP and hope things work out. My Mrs and I did it tough when settling back in the west too. We both had second jobs. I was cleaning cinemas and she did home delivery jobs to make ends meet. Been there done that.
It shouldnt be a case of her money or your money. You're married. Spending so much money on a bouse in isaan when you're short of a quid is madness. In a normal balanced relationship you would sit down, work out where the money is going and make compromises if need be. If she isnt willing to do that then shes in it for herself and it's never going to work.

Fascinating stuff. Any chance of providing the overnight tiddlywinks scores while we're at it.

I walked past a luggage repair shop near the j avenue cafe strip the other day. They should be able to help. Without knowing the area that well i imagine it would be a decent walk from the skytrain though.

I thought they all loved the UK?
In reality aus should be one of the more agreeable countries for them. Proximity to asia, temperate climate, high wage, english speaking, massive asian population etc

Last time i was in the UK I spent 90 minutes getting through customs at Heathrow (with a passport from a commonwealth country that mentions the queen no less) while gypsies breezed pass in the EU line. It's a beautiful place that needs some urgent repairs.

Make a promise to yourself before leaving to have fun but keep your head under all circumstances. I was young, stupid and lonely and burnt 20k AUD in 3 weeks. It can take years to recover.
