It depends a lot on the individual. Some people are self starters and movtivated, others struggle. My wife found a job in a Thai restaurant within days of arriving which was a blessing as it enabled her to get in to a routine and build a network of friends. She's since gone on to study and find better paying work. The other big thing was when she got a drivers license and gained some independece. The Thai town area in Sydney has been a great cure for home sickness. A nice authentic meal and visiting the Thai grocery, DVD store etc has lifted her mood many times. BTW I can't see how anyone could dislike San Diego!

Last time i was in the UK I spent 90 minutes getting through customs at Heathrow (with a passport from a commonwealth country that mentions the queen no less) while gypsies breezed pass in the EU line. It's a beautiful place that needs some urgent repairs.

I'm sure any of the forum's American members will disagree with what i'm about to say but the thrust of my post came from an American acquaintance years ago.
We were discussing the WC on at the time and the US doing well but he pointed out that American enthusiasm would wane as soon as the US was eliminated as he said " Americans don't do neutral spectator very well. "
It's natural the supporters of a team in any sport are knocked out of their stride when their team is eliminated but not necessarily to give up on a tournament completely.
Would any of our American friends care to advise if this attitude still exists or even if it ever did ?
Martin tyler said much the same thing on australian tv last night. from his experience working on US tv last world cup once they are out all interest is lost and everyone switches off more than any other country.

A lot of (even the) main stream movies never seem to make it here. I guess a lot of movies just don't translate well. And whats with there being no old people? With out the oldies in farang land cinemas would collapse outside of the school holidays.

More than 24 hrs on and things have sunk in. So proud of the aussie team. While short on technical ability i think we showed the world against holland that we can play some football. We havnt just parked the bus but tried to move the ball about and the team deserves more reapect than it got from the pundits prior to the tournament.

I thought they all loved the UK?
In reality aus should be one of the more agreeable countries for them. Proximity to asia, temperate climate, high wage, english speaking, massive asian population etc
