  1. Old money goes to England

New money goes to the US

    No money to Australia.

More seriously, the Thai civil service sends many many hundreds of new promising grads overseas each year, not only to these countries, but also to places like Canada, Japan, France, Switzerland and Germany.

not with the living costs of australia they aint.

most of the thais i know who have gone overseas have done so primarily to work and so they can 'check-in' on facebook. Study is just something they have to do to get the visa.

  2. Need more info. on your personal situation.

Where in Thailand? Family? Lifestyle? 487 million will probably enable you to go out a few nights a week. If you have kids it will allow for them to go to a reasonable international School in Bangkok.

Bear in mind most of us expats living comfortably in Thailand have close to 1 billion US in assets invested in the west.

  3. Hi here is a recent update.

My wifes Spouse visa application was recieved at the embassy on 9/2/12. She was emailed a few days later to get her medical.

The visa application was approved on 6/6/2012.

She got a phone call and was asked to pick up her letter and documents at the aussie embassy the following friday morning. No interview was required.

Very happy and this forum was a great help.

  4. Hello,

For my wife's visa I am supplying (among other things) tax return statements for 2 years as requested, a letter from my employer and a YTD payslip from my employer showing my income so far this financial year.

Is it necessary to also supply a bank statement? After an expensive wedding its dipped and dived at times and currently holds about 100k baht.

I did do a search but didn't find anything relating specifically to this.

  5. One thing that really annoys me is

The Thai wife still has another 6 months to go before she will get her Australian Passport

But she has permanant residence in Australia and has also passed the UK Tourist visa as I was born in England and we have young child who also hold British and Australian Passports

But even though she has past the difficult task above, when she wants to get other visa she must go back through the complete test again

Facts Show more US citizens want to live in Australia than the other way around

So why do they still use the old excuse that she may not return to Australia

In todays computer world tie up, why when you past 1 1st world countries immigration system it is not taken into account with others

We waste so much time on government duplication

Yes she is counting the days when she can lock her Thai passport away. (only to be used on Thailand holidays)

There is no FACE having a Thai Passport

Getting an Australian Passport is like a giant step to HiSo living

Australia has a high society? Strewth!

Yah, apparently we are. "As measured by median wealth levels, Australians are the wealthiest people in the world, says the Credit Suisse Global Wealth Report 2011"

  6. .

I would not apply for a visa longer than 3 months on your first attempt. They will determine the visa request on the information you provide in the application so they will happily knock back a 6 month request when they may have granted a 3 month or less visa. They won't turn a 6 month request into a 3 month visa. You will probably get a 12 month multiple entry visa on your 3rd or 4th successful attempt.

    Hi,

can anyone else confirm the above. I've been trawling through this site looking for answers so can someone please shed more light.

This will be my girlfriends first visit to OZ. She got a letter from her employer and I'm doing everything from my end supporting funds letters etc We plan for her to come for 10 days in August then again around Christmas. She won't be employed after November so a letter from an employer won't be possible at that point. We prefer a multi entry.

So my question is a 6 month tourist visa difficult to get on a first attempt? And if they don't grant a 6 month visa, are immigration likely to 'downgrade' to a 3 month visa? Or is is 6 months or nothing.

    Thanks.

  7. Hello,

Would really love some kind people to help me get my head around things! Wanting to get my Thai fiancée over to meet friends and family here in Australia. We are both 24, she has a good job in Chiangmai and I am employed here in Melbourne. We never talk via email however I've gathered many photos, WU slips and trying to get hold of old phone bills etc.

Would like to get a 12 month visa so she can come back multiple times (for a few weeks at a time) as her work permits. Is it common to not get the visa you applied for? i.e. could she be issued with a 6 month or 3 month instead? no big deal I guess.

Is it a bad idea to have myself listed as her "fiancée" in the application as it's a tourist Visa?

If we were to get married (in thailand) could we apply for a spouse visa whilst the tourist visa is active? Any reason for the Aus Government to get unhappy?

Would buying a return plane ticket help at all with the application? I'd say no and a bit risky...?

I'm currently living with my father (who is also writing a letter of invitation) any drawbacks?

    Many thanks.

  8. THREE Bali bombers have been executed on an Indonesian island for their lead roles in the 2002 nightclub bombings that killed 202 people, including 88 Australians.

The family of Mukhlas and his younger brother Amrozi said the bombers had been executed along with Imam Samudra just after midnight local time (4am AEDT) on Nusakambangan Island, in Central Java, where they had been jailed.
