  1. I'm sure any of the forum's American members will disagree with what i'm about to say but the thrust of my post came from an American acquaintance years ago.

We were discussing the WC on at the time and the US doing well but he pointed out that American enthusiasm would wane as soon as the US was eliminated as he said " Americans don't do neutral spectator very well. "

It's natural the supporters of a team in any sport are knocked out of their stride when their team is eliminated but not necessarily to give up on a tournament completely.

Would any of our American friends care to advise if this attitude still exists or even if it ever did ?

Martin tyler said much the same thing on australian tv last night. from his experience working on US tv last world cup once they are out all interest is lost and everyone switches off more than any other country.

  2. A lot of (even the) main stream movies never seem to make it here. I guess a lot of movies just don't translate well. And whats with there being no old people? With out the oldies in farang land cinemas would collapse outside of the school holidays.

  3. Hi all

  4. hem Thailand almost qualified.they won in australia against the socceroos

Thailand didnt almost qualify, they didnt even make it to the final round of AFC qualification.

Thailand met Australia in the early stages of qualification and lost both games 2-1 in Brisbane and 1-0 in Bangkok.

Thailand also failed to make the Asian Cup 2015

Serious money needs to be invested in grass roots football to ever have a hope of qualification.

  5. Australia are the first team to arrive in Brazil (and probably the first to leave!) after arriving in their home base of Vitoria yesterday. It's going to be an uphill battle for the Socceroos in a tough group. Australia limped in to the world cup finals with a 1-0 win over Iraq last year. The qualification process was marred by poor performances and the then managers unwillingness to blood new players. The 'golden generation' have largely moved on. Gone are the days of most of the squad playing in the top European leagues. New Manager Ange Postecoglou was brought in to rebuild the squad. An unenviable task only months out from the Cup. The situation has been made worse with injuries to key players Curtis Good (Dundee United) and Robbie Kruse (Bayer Leverkusen) ruling them out of Brazil. The biggest worry is the inexperienced and under strength defense which looks shaky at best.
Now for some positives. Ange isn't a manger to park the bus. We're going to get smashed but at least it will be entertaining and in front of plenty of fans with Australia having the 2nd most traveling supporters after the USA with over 10,000 making the trek.
