  1. I have not witnessed or experienced any of this mistreatment by Thais or Thai government. But apparently others have. Is this because of where they live? Perhaps it is like that in Bangkok. I rarely go there so I don't know. People are always very friendly and respectful here towards me. Even the police. Really I have to admit I don't know what OP is talking about. Perhaps he has an attitude which is offensive to people. I am not saying this as I do not know the perrson. I am only trying to understand why some farangs have problems and others do not. One thing I am sure of is that Thailand is not about to kick out the foreigners. I think that idea is ridiculous and found no evidence to support this theory in this whole discussion.

  2. I personally have been treated very respectfully by Thai people. Moreso in many ways than in my own country.

I do not see any of this hate foreigner attitude myself. And why would Thailand kick out the people who support their economy. I work with some Thai people who are involved in tourism and basically are more concerned with getting more foreigners to come here than in kicking kick out the ones that are here. I do not understand why if people are unhappy here and suffering so much they don't leave.

  3. Thanks to the help from forum situation is resolved without lawyer. Lady told grandparents she would give money to them to settle the custody case out of court,as was advised by people on forum, and that if they refused she would come with police to take child or get lawyer if necessary. They agreed and whole matter is settled. Thank you all very much.

  4. Thank you all for the kind advice. In this case the woman is Thai and wishes to obtain custody of her own child who is now with Thai father's parents.. There was no legal agreement but child has been with father's parents since they broke up. Father has since become a monk. Mother was financially less able to provide for the child so she figured child was better off with the father, but since the father entered monkhood and is not even living close to child and mother is now in better financial position than grandparents, she wishes to gain custody of daughter. She sent money to grandparents for daughter which they accepted but still refused to allow mother to visit. I know in US the mother could easily gain custody but this is Thailand and I do not know what the system is here.

  5. Welcome back Bill. I was in NS recently and visited Khonwan's home. It is beautiful and I also plan to do what you and he are doing but on a very small scale as my g/f only has 4 rai of land. There is already a house on property but it is not in such good shape and when it is affordable for me I will build new house there.

  6. I read that in ancient times the king of Ayutthaya used Japanese samurai as bodyguards, so this is not new here.

The best bodyguards in the world are US Secret Service. Perhaps these guys are former secret service agents.

As for Blackwater protecting diplomats overseas, this is no slap in the face to US armed forces. They are under contract with the state department, and it is a bureaucratic issue, not that armed forces are unqualified.

  7. I appreciate all the kind words. Perhaps I left some things out. My girlfriend likes when I buy her gold, but she never asked me to buy it or made demands. She worked in a farang restaurant in pattaya, not a bar. She has not been to Pattaya in over 2 years. I posted this story because of the huge amount of postings which are critical of Thai women and I thought it would be good to read something positive for a change. As for bygoncow or whatever your name is, it is obvious noone is ever going to buy you

anything so obviously you cannot comprehend the idea of kindness or generosity. You are a sad case pal and I feel sorry for you if this is your view of life in Thailand. As for this troll thing, what is the point of that? It is sad that someone would assume anytime someone writes about something decent, they must be a troll. This is what is stupid. I have to pay for this internet time and I type very slowly. Why would I or anyone else waste their time making up stories.

  8. I am writing this posting because it shows a different side of Thai women than we usually hear about. I have been with my girlfriend for over 2 years and she is the only woman I have been with in Thailand. She is from a small village in Nakhon Sawan but when I met her she worked in a restaurant in Pattaya. She wants gold jewelry of course and likes me to buy her things and I figured she was like most Thai women in that regards and what can you do? A few months ago I found a book about crochet written in Thai and I gave it to her. Although she never crocheted in her life she learned from this book and soon she was making hats which were so well-made people started ordering them from her and now she has a good business selling hats. So she gets money from them and though I am not wealthy I give her money to buy things for herself. Then on valentine's day she gave me this dell laptop computer for a gift. It costs 17,000 baht and she bought it with every baht she saved from hats and money I gave her. I was very moved by this as I did not expect it, and to be honest most of her friends say she is crazy or stupid for buying an expensive present for a farang. I just wanted people to see another side, and that there are women here who are generous and good-hearted and not just greedy.

  9. My friend has a beautiful 5 bedroom house for rent for 25,000 baht per month. It is near Rmping supermarket. I do not have phone number right now but if you are interested send PM and I will send you the information.

  10. My last trip too Nakhon Sawan, I tried to find the bookstore owned by madyakka but could not find it. I tried to look up map on google but still could not locate it or the ECC school. Could you give me directions there coming from area of Pimarn Hotel, as that is the only place I am familiar with in NS city except Big C. Also, my girlfriend has house in Mae Wong. It is small Thai style house with usual bathroom and I was thinking of paying to install western toilet and shower. Anyone have any idea what is trhe usual local cost for this? Thank you.

  11. I am sure they are trying to hit you up for massive sum as they assume farangs are all rich. Do you have insurance? This kind of thing is why I don't drive here, despite the inconvenience. One time in Chiang Mai, while I was a passenger and my girlfriend was driving the car, she hit a motorcyclist and knocked him down. He didn't appear to be hurt until he saw me and them went into his act. I have a badge from my former job and when he saw it I guess he got scared because he got on bike and took off, but I am sure otherwise he would have somehow tried to get me to pay girlfriend's liability. I am in Nakhon sawan and 2 days ago saw 4 accisents in about 3 km. very dangerous around here, apparently.

  12. Stereotypes exist because there is almost alwayssome truth in them. Some stereotypes like irish are drunks. French people smell bad. Farangs in pattaya are perverts. Liberals are gutless. These are stereotypes and anyone is a liar who knows about these groups and claims they do not understand how these stereotypes came about. The problem is not all Irish are drunks, and not all farangs in Pattaya are perverts. But if someone is an honest and forthright person they will admit they can at least understand why stereotypes exist, even if they are somewhat harmful. I am native American, and I understand why Indians have stereotype as alcoholic. it is because so many of us are. I am not, but I still understand why people think this way. The problem with this whole PC argument is so many people spend so much time worrying about basically meaningless petty crap instead of important, life and death issues. And as for what people should or should not say, I can say just about anything I want, and so can you. And if someone tries to tell me what I cannot say, then we will have to fight.

  13. This is Thailand here and this whole forum is sort of irrelevant. This is not such a PC place. Racism is very prevalent here and not hidden very well at all. Different groups are called demeaning names in the Thai language, there is definitely bigotry towards black people and Thai people generally thing farangs (not very PC in itself, I believe), are barbarians. Understandable if anyone has been to Pattaya. So I assume anyone who chooses to live here can't really be too strongly into PC or they would have to leave in order to live with themselves.

  14. Thanks for info. I checked carrefours but weights are too small. I go to gym now which has faily good free weights though dumbbells only go up to 50 pounds. I figure weights good thing to buy second hand as they don't wear out. New ones seem pretty expensive from what people say here. Benches I have seen for sale here aren't able to support much weight. I made my own squat racks before with lead pipe. Maybe I will do that here if I can find the weights. Somnahnah dont give up. You took first step. Maybe three curls next time.

  15. I despise the whole PC obsession and think it is ruining the world. I am a Native American but don't care if someone calls me an Indian. I do it myself. I thought it was stupid when people, especially Indians, got all worked up about football team names like the Redskins. Who cares? I don't want to call black people darkies and neither do many non-PC people I know. I don't think it is a big deal to call women "girls." So what? Same with broads, dames, babes, whatever. I do believe it is wrong to call them the c word, as that is derogatory. Or b-----s, unless they really are one. People call men guys or dudes. Who cares? People are murdering other people in some countries, like Burma and in Africa, by the nthousands. Islamic freaks are trying to kill everybody who doesn't agree with them. Isn't this a bigger problem than calling some woman a girl. I call waitresses back in US "hon", sometimes, and they don't have me arrested or sue me. Perhaps because they are real women who work for a living.

  16. Thanks for the info. I will check it out. Almost time for new year resolutions, so maybe you can make one to start using your dumbbells. I didn't get motivated myself until I ended up in Theppanay Hospital, so now I go to gym most every day, but it is not so convenient to get to.

  17. I am new to this internet forum stuff but it seems to me a troll is anyone who brings up any topics other than such important subjects as where you can get cheap beer or do you think your girlfriend just wants your money. If someone does not like something someone else writes about, right off they say they must be a troll. I thought a troll was a little nasty guy who lives under a bridge.
