  1. I don't think it is completely related to CAT or Cat is also effecting ToT, because when my ToT drops I lose both international and local connection. I have noticed a sim. problem for sometime now. Did you notice that it may happen more often at 5 min. before the hour and 25 after. Thats not 100% with my drop outs but 80% > happen right on schedule. lasting 1 to 3 mins. everything is gone and Ipstar is working fine. Its like ToT just pulls the plug long enough to drop any downloads that might be running and then turns it back on. This would save them a ton of money in bandwidth and still collect the same from the user. About nine months ago it only happened once every two hours right at the top of the hour like the lease connections were renewing with the server. Maybe they spead them out and it still can't handle it. I found stardownloader works around it pretty well because I can set retry for up to 100 tries every 10 seconds. Its the only way to downlaod anything over 20mb.

In my opinion, it comes down to the fact that you can't put ten kilos of rice in a bag that was designed to hold five kilos. The providers sell to far more customers than they can service and the undersized systems can efficiently handle.

This happend in New Zealand with Telecom, about five years ago. The difference there was the courts ordered them to refund all the subscribers... backdated 6 months.

The upside was alot of people got 6 months free internet. :)

I doubt this will happen here in Thai

  2. Went to police station today... gave the pass port to copy and a couple of photos.

When they said they wanted my finger prints, I showed them again my tourist visa (2 month multi entry) "Í am tourist... I dont work here; am not marrired to a Thai; not retired here!!! Only criminal in New Zealand give fingerprint and I am not criminal there or here... so I dont do them now! OK?"

Cop grumbled a bit then said: ''OK, all finish, you go now'' :)

  3. fly between NZ and Thailand 4 times a year and all in economy. IMHO I rate the carriers as follows.

1: Thai New Aircraft, Clean aircraft, good food, great staff, plenty of room and soft seat. Now can do return trip 20 000 Baht

2: Emarites same as Thai Air, but best price is aprox 28 000 Baht

3: Singapore Air same as above but with bigger seats and more room. 32 000 Baht

4: Air NZ. Never used as the best price I could get has been 48 000 Baht

5: Air Asia. Hidden charges, but overall always got new aircraft and the staff have always been plesent. Bone hard and skinny seats.

6: QANTAS / Brittish Airways. Absolute <deleted>. Staff were rude and spent 80% of thier time pushing duty free products, aircraft was filthy (rubbish on floor and in back of seats when we boarded) Old aircraft; ie no tv in back of seat, food was foul tasting. Limited supply of clean headphones. All this and it still cost 33 000 baht. :)

  4. An update to when I began this thread back in March:

As for my situation, have heard nothing since and all is quite on the Eastern front.

Did hear a rumour that a Canadian living in my area and was also visited by the police last March, was arrested because his visa had expired. The 63 year old guy was 18 days over due with his visa run.

He was arrested, imprisoned, fined than deported.

So any Farangs living here who are on the iffy side, keep looking over that shoulder, you may be next.

Living out in the sticks is no longer a surety that you wont be detected.

Police are busy on the outskirts of Korat trying to get farang to supply pics, copy of passport. I was also told they want to take my fingerprints.

They have already got all the details of a neighbour that is here on a retirement visa.

I No problems with all this except: 1/ I am in thailand on a current tourist visa. 2/ I have not got a criminal record and have never had to supply finger prints in my own country (new zealand)

  5. The '07 R1 is 520k and the R6, 460k.

    http://www.redbaronbkk.com/products/?cat=10

I love to hear that used comparable bikes (at least in the case of the R6) are nearly twice a new ER6f. And look at the two Enduro's. A Kawasaki KLX250 is 149,000 new.

Ok, back OT: So interseted in the ride to Malaysian MotoGP at Sapeng October 23rd to 25th 2009 so far are:

  6. i have not been visiting pubs too much recently(wifes orders),....but there used to be a Scandinavian chap who had a bar but was closed,....I don't know if any more recent bars are now operating.

I was there last at the end of 2006 and didn't find any.

I have small pizza bar in Non Sung. Come for a drive here and I shout you a pizza... You pay for the beers :)

Its about an hours drive through the back roads. It is a realy scenic drive through true Issan farmland and worth the time.

    Glenn

Thanks Glenn I'll probably take you up on that. I have just located Non Sung on my road map, south of Chaiyaphum near Korat if that's the one.

I'll be traveling from this Saturday, the 27th, so will only be on the internet from time to time and certainly not every day, especially the first few days, but I will keep monitoring the thread.

    Sweet as

  9. I missed my annual pilgrimage to Chaiyaphum this year(Credit Crunch) :) but even 18 months ago when my wife and I visted there we both had FLU !!! .....TWICE!! "first we both went down with "head colds"....then a really nasty bug that kept us both sweating in bed for a week!!.....about the worst holiday I had in years,....I just hope it don't happen again......apparently the current "in crowd" meet up at Tesco!! :D

There is a farang bar in Chaiyaphum?

  11. I told him I do not have their details, so he has given me his email address ( a gmail.com address ) so I now have his email address, I will send him some screen shots of my connection problems, as for providing him with details of other CAT users who have this same problem, the phrase .... Can of Worms springs to mind.

    The story goes On

    TL

Perhaps TV can provide those email adresses and other personal details, for those that completed the recent ISP "survey"

  12. My connection (MC727) has been mostly pretty good for the last week or so.

But I can rarely connect first attempt and there are about 3 total disconnects in a day.

Download speeds are acceptable, but the average up load is now only 100 to 150.

My signal strength has only ever shown 3 out of 5 bars. At the moment it is 2, but still getting EV-DO. Sometimes only I bar and 1xrtt

A few occasions every day, although I'm shown as connected, speed reduces to zero.

If I want to watch a Utube video, I have to use Utube downloader as if I try to watch in my browser (Firefox), the video will often stop halfway through and not restart.

If I am reading a topic on Thaivisa and click on an image (relatively large file) to view fullsize in another window, 10% of times, the image will only partly download, so I have to download the pic with download manager in order to view

All very similar to what i am getting in Non Sung.

    just used speedtest.net and got......

    ping 107 ms

    download 2.74 Mb/s

    upload 0.74 Mb/s

maybe the locals here are all too hung-over and not all online yet :)

  13. I have a small pizza shop and want to place a "pizza" sign at right-angles to the roadway. (Small town on out-skirts of Korat)

I have visions of a sign 3x1 metre, aprox 2metre off the ground.....

Can i go over the footpath?

Are local town governence have own rules?

Am I regulated by the Provincial government?

what are the max dimensions relitive to proximity of a roadway?

    Cheers

  14. Hi,

Just wondering if anyone can help coz I'm kinda confused by the Thai visa regulations.

I'm Irish and flying to Bangkok in july and have a return ticket home from Bangkok in 35 days. Will we still be able to get the 30 day visa exemption stamp ? We won't actually be in Thailand for over thirty days as we're going to Laos for approx a week.

Wil we have any problems explaining this as we don't have proof of a flight ticket to Laos as we are travelling overland??

    Hope someone can help!

    Thanks in advance :)

    Shouldnt be a problem.

30 day stamp when you arrive and 15 day stamp when you come back into Thailand from Laos.

  15. What the W.H.O fears is the mutations...a bit like the drug resistant strains of malaria that are evolving along the Thai/Cambodian border at the present. The fact that some people die and some recover might suggest to W.H.O. that this virus will mutate beyond the scope of drugs that are able to deal with it. Why? Carriers. How many times have you had a flu and the anti-biotics were changed? Because the virus mutated around the anti-biotic you took before. A lot of healthy young people died in Mexico, but the virus has been less of a threat elsewhere. Viruses think! They want to

survive...just like we do. W.H.O knows this. Hence their precautions on a global scale.

    Just an uneducated guess....:-P

    Yes your uneducated.......

Flu is viral....... this is why antibiotics are innefective in treating them. Only reason to perscribe them is they reduce some of the symtoms.

Treat every little germ you ever get with antibiotics and all you do is weaken the bodies ability to deal with infections itself and give the pathagens a chance to build an immunity to every antibiotic that is available.

  16. AFAIK you are assigned a private IP address by CAT, which means you are basically invisible from the internet.

Easiest way to understand is that CAT has a big ADSL modem in their office, which is handing out private IP addresses to all the PC's which are attached to it through the EVDO modems.

So portforwarding would have to be done in their office as it is the first point where all traffic goes onto a public IP address!

Pretty much the same for most mobile internet connections. Both Dtac and AIS have the same on their GPRS/Edge system...

Thanks for a clear amswer Monty.

I suspected it was the way you discribed.

I get the feeling that the ip address must be constantly changing during a session, as there is the frequent occasion when all is well with utorrent and I have incomming connections.

    Cheers

  17. To the origonal poster, and any other interested I guess.

I have been experimenting the last 15 years with different approaches to the manufacture of bio-diesel, and got the best results with transesterification.

Is anyone interseted in doing it with me at a small commercial level?

  18. I have a Merlin x720 from Cat Telecom.

Is it possible to port forward this device?

I am unable to get a stable port when i am downloading / uploading. Is this a feature of Cat?

My personal preference is to use utorrent, Is there another program that would make it easier to have incomming connections?

    Regards

    Glenn

  19. She is not a cow! In fact, some of her happy snaps show her to be quite a pleasant & buxom wench.

She is using a well-known law firm to extract as much (1) publicity & (2) cash out of a tawdry little event.

She is, with good make-up and clothing, quite photogenic - read all about it in the women's magazines.

Her recalcitrance has set up her beautifully to have a big earn from press and Television - so no sympathy for her, she is just earning income.

No different to the average Thai Bar-girl...

Seems the media and the general public have been sucked into her antics. The whole subject is barely news-worthy
