In the government's Emergency Operations Department best case scenario 400,000 people will be infected. So with
200,000 tablets of Favipiravir they will get half a tab each.
Presumably the drug will be used on severe cases. The 400,000 figure seems to be total cases, most of which may not be severe.
question is, howdid they come up with the 400k figure and is it likely to be accurate?

There is some evidence that suggest immunity only last about a year.
But this virus has only been around 4 months. How could there be any evidence at all about 1 year out? Smh.

The way I read that list - it listed the private hospital prices (i.e. jumping the queue).
If the government (using it's criteria) requires you to be tested, I believe it is free (at certain specific hospitals).
but only for Thai people surely -

I fear Thailand is on the brink of revolution. Hopefully it will be a people's one. Lancet saying a real mortality rate of 5%. Basically SARS + pandemic which is off the scale of 'bad'.

Strange how the leader of the free world, one President Trump, is prepared to go on record as saying it’s less than 1% without any scientific evidence at all.
Oh wait, that’s not strange at all.

- Travellers must record their own symptoms in the reporting system and monitor their symptoms strictly as required by health authority.
hmm, what is this “reporting system”? Is it easy to obtain, operate and more importantly is the data robustly monitored?

It seems Trump found the perfect solution for America: Don't test anybody! Because if nobody is tested then there are officially no sick people. Trump logic...
Trump’s coronavirus ban on travel from the EU is backfiring already
https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2020/mar/12/trump-coronavirus-ban-travel-backfired
"Currently, the US is bottom of the global league table for coronavirus testing, at a rate of just five people in every million. (South Korea is testing 3,692 people per million.) "
Well it worked for Thailand......

Well, I have to say that America watched the rest of the world for 2 months and did nothing to prepare themselves, because they couldn’t care less about the rest of the world while they were busy making money. Now it comes to them and they wake up and the first thing they do is panic.
it seems their big military powers, oil self sufficiency and oh so fast growing economy, is no good to them when the chips are even half way down.
Trump spent 4 years reneging on a ton of international commitments entered into by previous American administrations, the world might just decide to look on and watch America flounder while they themselves deal with the issue in their own countries.
a reliable partner? Not in the least.

That you know nothing about the weather doesn't make my statement false:

Other parts of Thailand are even warmer than Bangkok
If you think 1 degree difference in heat stops the virus, then you are deluded. And I know about weather by personal experience. Some parts of Thailand are cooler than Bangkok. And cooler than Singapore where heat radiates up from the concrete jungle.
all in all, if you visit Singapore I suggest you leave your long johns and overcoat behind, because it is actually HOT.

You did say 'potentially'. Unless the infected officer coughed directly on a passport, the chance of any transmission may 'potentially' be low:
(quote article)
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (US CDC), it is possible to contract COVID-19 by touching a surface or object that has the virus on it, then touching one’s mouth, nose or possibly eyes. However, experts say this is not the main way the virus spreads.
COVID-19 has a generally poor survivability on surfaces and poses a low risk of spread from one person to another through contact of a shared surface, CDC officials said.A study by the Journal of Hospital Infection found that other strains of coronavirus have the potential to remain on metal, glass and plastic surfaces for two hours to nine days. According to the World Health Organization, the virus is unable to survive for long periods of time on packages or letters.

I wonder why Thai post is disinfecting parcels then?
probably the same reason the IO was wearing a mask. Giving the appearance of taking precautions when in fact taking none. Not that any are required for parcels

While your on the topic of 59 infected have a look at global statistics, and recovery rate
The recovery rate is pretty good!
And if you would like something really alarming this article reports that 1 person a day , every day dies from falling while taking a shower in the USA
And how many were hit by asteroids?
you suggestion that there are far more likely ways of dying than from covid, is valid. Road deaths a current example. But to suggest that there is more chance of being hit by an asteroid than dying from covid is nonsensical

I don’t understand why the op states “ despite taking precautions like wearing a face mask...”
hasnt it been made absolutely clear everywhere you look, that a face mask is not an effective precaution? Well, other than by the Thai health minister anyway. If anything, these guys should be wearing gloves.

All this data available. But what is actually causing the air quality to be so poor? Certainly can't blame it on a few piddly little farm fires.
Is it that new fangled thing; global warming in your parts?
They burn around our way but the air is lovely just a few hours afterwards. It must be Chiang Rai's location. Is there no wind in those parts? Is there no rain? I've just looked at the map and can see it's quite close to China.
If you are thinking of leaving Damascase, why not consider Udon Thani. Polution free, with a long dry season, and some decent fishing. An 'International airport' and a lot of chess-playing Lao ladies. And as we know Laos has not had any China virus cases yet so mixing with these girls is safe; not even a need for a mask, as you stare at each other across the board.
You will be made welcome.
Excuse me. I split my time between Phuket and Udon and the air in Udon is not good quality. Not saying Phuket is good either, but udon is significantly worse.
on a brighter note, I was in Bali last week and felt the air quality was good.

I’ve had a head cold the last couple of weeks, sore throat, sniffles, bunged up. No fever so it may or may not be covid. I’m not paying 10k baht to find out either.

Cases in China have slowed markedly, pollution is increasing over manufacturing centers as people get back to work, Chinese tourism represents the vast majority of tourists to Thailand. his estimate does have a logical basis in fact, your opinion doesn't.
Mmm, if people in China are getting back to work, what makes you think that will translate into tourism to Thailand? It might do eventually, but before then, people who haven’t been paid have to rebuild their cash, China has to get back to normal and Chinese people have to get over the fear factor of travelling to another country which isn’t exactly covid free.
hard to say what a worst case figure is, 30 million doesn’t sound THAT bad to me given what is going on. Sounds more like a most likely figure to me.
but that’s just my opinion

Let's hope the banks don't start to fail with a liquidity crunch and people/businesses hoarding cash.
Your post is contradictory. If people hoard cash (presumably instead of spending), they hoard it in bank deposits. Which increases bank liquidity. And Thai banks are surprisingly well capitalised.
people won’t hoard cash notes, they have nasty virus bugs on them.

Flawed logic. You have assumed the infection rate was spread evenly across the whole Chinese population which is not the case.
True, but a lot of people from Wuhan were in Thailand, several flights a day from that city. So your point is right, but it likely means that it’s even more suspicious that so few infections have been reported here.

There is no way that Thailand can enforce anything approaching a similar lockdown. People here need to be out on the street every single day just to get enough to live on. A China or even Italian style quarantine would cause social upheaval beyond imagination in this country. My guess is that everything will be handled softly, with staggered shutdowns of schools and businesses, unofficially extending Songkran, and all sorts of social messaging to try and shame people into staying home.
You are joking surely? The tourism ministry was recently saying everything would be ok because domestic tourists would take up the slack from absent foreign tourists. Pattaya is declaring itself a covid free zone. Not a single foreigner will believe that, but the average issan farmer, they just might.
far from lockdowns, parts of the government are still trying to get people to move around via domestic tourism.

44 and 42 days ago. So what is your point?
I believe the point being made is that the figures for Chinese visitors will have been far higher in January, than February, because it was prior to the travel ban on Chinese tour groups implemented by the Chinese government.
so if the arrivals in February seem alarmingly high, January’s higher number would be be more alarming AND include tour groups from Wuhan itself.
thats if I read the post corectly

Self quarantine, not self quarantine. It’s all pretty much irrelevant now. Thousands of tourists, Thais, business people have been arriving over the last two months from all the countries with high infection rates, including China. If covid isn’t here by now, it probably won’t ever be.
best to just hope the hot weather theory holds up.

Antiviral drug on the way from China

I’m sure that they did use it, perhaps not in the early days. And by various accounts, it has been effective in a number of cases. But that isn’t to say that it’s a 100% fool proof “cure”. If it were, there would be no deaths anywhere. But that doesn’t mean that it can’t help in some cases.
