Sounds wondeferful - Trouble is , quite a few of Pattaya's  foreign  residents left home to get away from all that ............

Just finished reading "The Looming Towers ' by Lawrence Wright , tracing the road to 9/11 etc and the rise of Bin Laden.

At one point Laden caused so much havoc in Egypt , Algeria etc  that the Saudis considered  an  assassination attempt

but concluded the were " clumsy assassins "  and tried to sub contract the job.

No change there then !

Seems all that religious butchering of animals that they get taught from an early age   ...  comes in handy later .......

I lived  and worked in that part of the world for many years , I always thought it was a  very strange  custom,  to start training young boys as young as eight  or nine  to   '  slaughter  '  an animal , even as part of a religious ritual .

When you throw   the  in-  breeding into it ,  it becomes even more unhealthy .

Actually I know this area and it's not a million miles from Jomtien market .

I have passed by  these homeless people many times over the past few years and they are all very polite and nice , though they seem to be a bit thin .

Frankly they hardly ever ask me for money ,  I give sometimes .

I own a property here which gets no kudos for me at immigration so I try and keep as little in Thailand as possible .

My UK  pension is received into a UK bank account , every month and the statement always shows my National Insurance

No. ( NI ) as part of the description.

Surely it should be possible for the  UK Embassy and or Thai authorities to  accept (3)  original UK bank statements   provided this it has a valid  NI number on it as proof .  Easily checked  got fraud on a random basis I would imagine .

This would reduce the 800,000 to about 460,00 in my case and solve the problem completely for those with Thai wives who need to show 400,000.

Actually I saw about   60  older kids in a blue type uniform  cleaning up  Jomtien beach just this morning as I  was  passing in a baht bus .
