And how would not being in the EU have mitigated that problem?
Actually a lot of factories starting "shutting down " in the early 1970's due to the pure greed of UK financial moguls like Jim Slater . Factories were turned into luxury housing using the term "liberating assets ' .Triang toys ,etc
Unfortunately , it was just a stock market hype and most were bankrupt by mid 1970 and had to be bailed out .
Nothing to do with the the EU or Eastern Europe.

Trump was just a corrupt business man, who needed Putins cooperation to get his hotels in Moscow, a deal that fell flat, however, the point is that a nuclear deal was in place, so the US turned its technology on conventional weapons instead of nuclear expansion, whilst Putins "wanting to make Russia great again" had other ideas.
Grumpy - you forgot to mention the photos !

Well not quite the same Robin , you could look at it ( as I do ) from the point of view that the rule was always on the books but there was always an easy way around it , now it's time to stump up .
However it's true that it was not handled very well , more time should have been given followed by confused signals from the " authorities ' .

more remainer scare mongering ,like the year 2000 bug when all PCs were going to fail ,but it was business as usual and no PCs dropped dead..
Er not quite , on 1 /1 2000 I said the same thing to a friend who worked on the bug , all a fuss about nothing etc - actually his reply was - there was a problem and thousands of people worked for years on it and fixed it !
This is the Exact opposite - there was no real threat to jobs and the economy but there is now but NOBODY is working on it because they don't know how to fix it !

Now that you mention it...
Strangely , Pat I never really felt the effects of the undermining of liberal democracy , the blocking of political change by the unelected EU etc etc as you state you I However I have recently definitely felt the " pound in my pocket ' being blocked !

When the wall came down in 1991 , I read that Vlad and the missus left East Germany with all his possessions in the back of a pick up...including a twin tub washing machine !
Didn't he do well !

Another propagandised and brainwashed Remainer dons the sackcloth and ashes. How pathetic. People who feel as you do should put your money and principles where your mouth is and emigrate to the EU - while you still have time.
I always laugh when I hear the 'if you don't like it emigrate ' argument , it seems so arrogant and is always the last resort of the banana republic African dictator when the people want otherwise -

I used to enjoy the discussions down at the local bar between the Brexits and remainers - unfortunately neither side can afford a few beers any more so at least thats one thing sorted ......in a way !

Yes it would be extremely naive. The Germans, Dutch and Italians tend not to export to France via Calais.
My Thai Calais ? . Pit props ?
I was thinking Orly and all those high value super urgent parts needed ever so quickly . Anyway It's a good chance to find out if these JIT systems will still work .

Would it be naïve of me to think that after Brexit , if the jolly French customs man at the port or aiport has a bad day ( wine hangover ) - the Italian , German and Dutch papers will go to the top of his pile and the UK papers well ....will not . ?

No! the money trail may not lead directly to him but you can bet your bottom shorted pound that his mates profited from it.
Adam , you are spot on , it was unreal the way he conceded far, far too easily and too early . " never mind its an on going project ' blah blah .
Also the BBC interviewer looked like her bottom false teeth were about to drop out .
I have shorted the odd pound over the years , including when Soros was doing it and it's what went through my mind immediately - it's pay back time .

I have a friend who's a rabid expat " exitier' who assured me in June 2016 that the fall in the pound was just a ' temporary thing '.
I understand his wife's just served the divorce papers because he can't keep her in the style she had been accustomed to .
Oh well .....I thought it was just the politicians who lied
