As we are in Phuket this week I can confirm it is rammed with Russians, Indians and Arabs. Seen a few Chinese about but not many. Definitely busy again, even in the pouring rain.
When you say you are in Phuket, where in Phuket?

Khao Lak, certainly this time of year, is even more unadvisable for sea swimming that the west coast of Phuket. Not a great selection of restaurants, and every where very spaced about and not easy to get to. Fine if you want a holiday staying in the hotel and chilling out, but for access to other places of interest and entertainment, forget it. January/February might be a better time for Khao Lak.
A lot of the local restaurants and stalls that were popular, closed during Covid, and never re-opened. There is no shopping other than 7/11 or Mom and Pops. As I said, great if you want a quiet chilled out holiday in a resort, though you might feel a bit lonely this time of year.

Just got a new Hilux '23 Revo 4x4 and looking for a place that can/will sell/install halfway decent bull/roll bars at normal non-farang prices?
Anywhere on the island is ok.
Tried going through the car shops at BigC parking lot, nearly peed myself laughing at their middleman markups.
Prefer Hamer brand but open to anything.

For a near offroad experience, would think that the 'road' that joins Chalong with Patong across the Nakkard hills might suit. Formerly just a track, it was upgraded some months ago when a landslip closed the main route into Patong. However, since then, no maintenance has been done on this road, so the recent rains and poor surface have taken its toll.
This would be the starting point in Chalong:

I make it by hand. It works but you have to be very careful not to add too much oil in the beginning, so it is time consuming and labor intensive. But I haven't been able to find a good immersion blender yet.
I have a couple, this is the one that I use regularly:
As I described, I use the blender attachment, not the whisk. Everything goes into a jar together, and in less than 2 minutes you've got great mayo. None of this drip feeding oil and aching arms crap!

not sure about using raw egg without some sort of treatment, also - isn't there vinegar in mayo ? perhaps as a preservative and sanitizer
I use fresh eggs, and the lemon/lime juice adds an element of citrus that's not there with vinegar. Homemade doesn't have preservatives obviously, nor the other more dubious ingredients of commercial mayo.

Thanks for the recipe and mine is the same and but most of the time I prefer to use olive oil . Also it can be modified to make a Heinz type salad cream
By co-incidence, some plastic sauce bottles that I ordered from Lazada have just arrived, and a new batch of mayo was needed. I also make my own Sriracha and Sweet Chilli sauces.

OK, in a jar with the neck just wide enough for the stick blender to go into (I use a coffee jar), one whole egg (white and yolk), one grated clove of garlic, one teaspoon of Dijon mustard, a tablespoon of lemon or lime juice, and 250ml of oil (I use Canola). Keep the blender flush to the bottom of the jar until you can see mayo starting to form, then wiggle it around in the jar until you get the consistency you want. I then add a pinch of salt. This gives you the basic mayo, then you can play tunes with the ingredients/quantities according to taste. Once made, the mayo is good for about two weeks in the fridge, which is probably as long as a batch lasts me, great for egg mayo sandwiches, coleslaw, BLT's etc. Use olive oil and more garlic for an alioli.

Family Mart, originally a Japanese owned franchise, was 100% sold to the Central Group (owners of Tops) a couple of years ago. Obviously Central are looking to rationalise their real estate. Competition is great, certainly here in Phuket, where Lotus and Supercheap are major players in the 24 hour convenience store market.

I go with Siemens. We have two, the oldest is now 16 years old which had a problem with the drum about 7 years ago. Thought it was going to be expensive to repair so bought another, larger capacity one in anticipation of the first one being scrapped. Quote from Siemens was reasonable, so now we have two machines. The drum problem was caused because of some construction work we were doing at home, and cement/debris getting into the clothes that were being washed. Local service (Phuket) for Siemens is very good.
I would also look at Samsung, as again they have a reputation for reliability plus local service (only used for TV's/phones) is excellent.

Are you seriously saying that immigration offices (and in particular Rayong in this instance) don't require any supporting financial proof in the form of certified passbook copies and/or bank statements in the case of marriage extension applications? Even allowing for the fact that this is Thailand I find this incredibly hard to believe!
But there again maybe we are at cross-purposes here??
Cross purposes. Letter from bank, 3 month statement, and copies of actual bank book pages (all in duplicate of course). I'm referring to the requirement for 800/400,000 minimum balance throughout the year required for Retirement extensions, which does not apply to Marriage/Familly extensions.

Your contacts are not well informed. Not necessary for Marriage ext.
Indeed, no requirement at all for any amount to be retained in own bank account other than 400,000 baht two months prior to extension application. This regardless of which Immigration Office.

Presumably this new requirement also applies to those seeking marriage extensions on the basis of 400k in the bank.
No. Currently for Marriage extensions, you can withdraw the whole amount of your balance the day after the extension is granted, and with no need to deposit any further funds at all until two months prior to the next extension being due/applied for.

This is pork shoulder in a marinade that went into the fridge today. I'll be cooking it in a pressure cooker tomorrow for pulled pork, and making some Chinese Bao buns to have it in, along with some pickled vegetables and Srirach sauce. The pork came from Makro this morning, nearly 2 kilos, and only 212 baht! Amazing.
Just a follow up for this post. This morning, pork into a pressure cooker with the marinade, topped up with about 500ml of pineapple juice and mixed together. Once the pressure cooker had got up to heat, 50 minutes then allowed to cool down. Meat removed from the cooker and allowed to rest for 5 minutes before pulling apart with a couple of forks. Meanwhile, the juices that were left in the cooker brought to a simmer with the lid off for about 15 minutes until turned into a thick syrupy sauce, then the pulled meat put back into the cooker and everything mixed together. All this will be split and into the freezer, probably about 10 meals.

Exactly what my freezer looks.like but I use foil tins then put them in my tin cans recycling bags to make it easy for the trash pickers. I also keep all the pan drippings and separate the oil and reuse them anytime a recipe calls for water. When I make bacon or sausages or roast chicken I save all the fat frozen for use in my tomato sauces etc. Are you doing any cooking with a pressure cooker? Lamb, pork ribs, poor cuts of beef all come out like butter in about 30 minutes. I blast meats with a torch to brown them then toss them in the cooker with veggies and stock and spices. Only one teflon pot to clean. If I was allowed to work here or had a Thai partner I could sell my meals easily. There are quite a few meal prep services I have seen here and they are no where near as good as mine.

Lasagne, baked ziti, sausage and peppers, chicken thighs with roasted veggies and mashed potatoes with black bean or bbq or hoisin sauce, Indian lamb Rogan Josh, Lamb osso bucco, Korean pork trotter Honey fried chicken with polenta, fried rice, Thai pig ears or jowls with rice pasta fagioli, thai massaman curry The list is endless. I pull out a random meal at about 2 and it's defrosted by five. 30 minutes in the air fryer and it's done. Can add some garlic bread or a salad or a cheesy garlic pita as needed. No dishes to clean no cooking pans to clean no oven to heat the kitchen no trips out for food no money wasted at restaurants no unwanted ingredients or extra calories no running back and forth to the market. I make 7 liters batches of banana wine and mix it with soda for happy hour with some peanuts or cheese and crackers if I'm in the mood. I'll also make creme caramel in individual tins or some ice cream or banana breads the same way so I have a sweet on hand. You get the idea the trick is plan out 3 or 4 dishes and make everything in one day I usually cook for 5 hours. I have a fried egg on toast with coffee every morning or sometimes I'll make a bunch of bagels and I'll make my own 24 hour cured salmon for that or just have some fruit. I probably save 30 hours a month. Makro will deliver any order over 3000 baht so I just let them do the heavy lifting for me too.
I'm the same, make batches of 4 individual meals for freezing, pies, soup, curries, etc. I get what are plastic takeaway boxes with lids from Lazada, usually come in packs of 100, which are great for stacking and not wasting space in our two freezer compartments. Inbetween is usually loaded with various breads that I've made.

Perhaps/probably wrong, but the Bangkok Post is perceived as the most read of all the Thai based foreign language news sources. Given what is happening today, it's not beyond the realm of possibility that the BP is being deliberately taken off air to minimise international condemnation of what is flagrant abuse by those in actual power here and any potential suppression of unrest. I'm sure that it won't be long before Reuters etc get this out there. Thai social media is already alight with the news.

Khao Lak officials bemoan the dangerous roads along coastal Phang Nga
in Phuket News

Over recent years, there have been major upgrades to dual carriageway status for the roads betweek Khok Kloi/Thai Muang/Khao Lak. The density of traffic on these roads is also very light compared to Phuket/Phang Nga/Krabi.
