  1. Scant details about the nature of the job and working conditions makes it difficult to form an opinion. I would say people are generally reluctant to quit well paid jobs unless there is something that really pushes them over the edge.
  2. Regarding masks: there's no doubt N95 masks work, but the paper/cloth type commonly seen probably do very little against Covid19 imo. Still, I wear one as it makes me feel better, and I do think they help with allergy prevention. More importantly, they could signify that here is a person who cares about his and other peoples' welfare.
  3. I wanted to my check my understanding was correct. 'for the time being' phrase of time for the present; until some other arrangement is made.
  4. Yes, that's why I wrote : I now understand that actually I can still use it for the time being
  5. But it's been delayed until later in the year. Right now it's got full functionality up until October. I just checked it on the fact page. Can you link your info?
  6. I'm in Thailand. I've recently been badly crossed by a major money transfer player or the bank it was sent to so really need an alternative quickly. I used to use Paypal Thailand but drained my account just before the proposed closure, though didn't close it thankfully. I now understand that actually I can still use it for the time being to receive money (as I used to) and then withdraw it to my Thai bank account.
  7. In the UK, the subvariants are regarded as mild as the parent strain. In fact thus far ICU admissions appear not to have risen in line. I'd rather go with that. https://www.gov.uk/government/news/covid-19-variants-identified-in-the-uk-latest-updates
  8. Err, that will be restrictions again then.......
  9. In one word : debt. I've nothing against profit, or talented people being paid more, but it's become more, more, more. The pay gap is widening to obscene levels.
  10. Wages are a large cost of course. But there are a lot of other factors of production too. Why focus on the workers all the time? Don't be fooled. Also why do you think workers want higher wages in the first place? I'd look for greed further up the chain.
  11. Maybe, but I'm willing to bet that many in the UK for example certainly didn't budget for 100% increases in energy bills, as well as hefty price rises on food and petrol, ie, much less discretionary spending. It's not just the UK too.
  12. Well it will do if salaries do not keep pace. Notice how it's always the poor who absorb the impact, but they haven't become less productive have they? Yet, it won't be long before the bosses will be talking about productivity.
  13. Agreed, but costs escalate as soon as you start a family. There's no escaping it either.
  14. Surprisingly, good unadulterated food doesn't cost much. And basic dishes are easy to cook. Stop cruising the bars night after night. Beer appears to be a major expense for many expats. Reading, listening to the radio (podcasts), etc, are free. Walking/Jogging is free. Needs must.
  15. Old story. I think it was agreed that there must have been a back story to explain what was clearly an assault on the vlogger.
