  1. Guesthouse has it dead on and any other considerations are completely foolish.

This is how most murders are committed in Thailand, not premeditated, simply NOT THINKING and acting on childish emotions and going to far... as usual. The boy and all cases like this need to be punished severely and the case needs to be advertised, Thais need to learn that getting revenge with violence often leads to murder and ruins your life, it simply is not worth it... why do they not teach this? Embarrassed and angry now should not cause you to seek to destroy your own life, makes no sense. Yet these stories are a daily event.

  2. Grabbed this off of modmyi about 4.0.

-There will be multi-touch gestures OS-wide. (Would make sense for that as the rumored OS for the iTablet is close if not the same as the iPhone)

-“A few new ways” to run applications in the background — multitasking.

-Many graphical and UI changes to make navigating through the OS easier and more efficient. We haven’t had this broken down, but we can only hope for improved notifications, a refreshed homescreen, etc.

-The update will supposedly be available for only the iPhone 3G and 3GS, but will “put them ahead in the smartphone market because it will make them more like full-fledged computers” more than any other phone to date. Everyone is “really excited.”

-The last piece of information is the most vague, but apparently there will be some brand new syncing ability for the contacts and calendar applications.

  3. Onnut, read the thread.... I do use internet and make the most of the iphone and do it all for 400 baht, I dont need unlimitted as I have free wifi at home and use less than the 30 hours of edge I get in my package each month when im away. Absolutely no reason to get unlimitted, I still would only use less than 30 hours, it makes no sense to pay more than double what I'm paying now so wish people would stop suggesting it hehe.

  4. If you have to pay tax for your work permit it can be as high as 6-8k per month, Canadians and Japanese etc have to pay tax on a minimum salary of 50k and then there might be an accounting charge depending on who you are dealing with.

  5. Loved it, but had to remove it. It isnt compatible with ANYTHING. Could not sync my outlook (google calendar) could not sync with ReQall.... and msword kept crashing while I was working on a document, had to go back to 2007 just to finish my work.

  6. Ya I got the n52te, love it, I got mine at Pantip.... let me try to remember, pretty sure the 5th floor, not a lot of people up there, wait lemme dig out the receipt....found it! Ok Accessory Supply Company... and thats all I can read cause the rest is all Thai... well look around the 5th floor, they sell nothing but interesting mice and gamepads and peripherals. Really kool stuff in there but a little pricy, the n52te cost me 2750 baht.

Oh my friend has the logitech g13 and its nice but not ideal for gaming, its a lot bigger than the n52te and harder to reach all the hotkeys precisely. If you dont mind looking at your gamepad while using it then guess its fine, I never have to look at the n52te.

  7. Ha! Loz that was good. "Chocolate man"..... ya they have no clue. At least they do it to themselves more than foreigners, if a child has dark skin his nickname becomes "Blackie", if hes fat, he's "fatty", ugly becomes "Ugly".... not a lot of deep thought going on.

Diet tonic water! Was that as joke? Made me laugh regardless.

  8. 3g is that extensive? Hmmm... I figured it was just a few places but if most of central Bkk is 3g thats not bad for my uses. But don't think I'll upgrade my 2g iphone until the new model comes out sporting the 5mp camera.

  9. Thailand being the way it is I felt these apps might help my fellow man.

Jailbroken iPhones only: (just to remind mods that jailbreaking the iphone is not against the law)

BLACKLIST, what this fine app does is hide whatever numbers you set it too from showing up as calling you or mms or sms. So if you have a friend that you want to keep on the downlow you use blacklist to hide them, everytime they call or sms it will not show up in your call log or in your sms conversations, to access them you have to open Blacklist and punch in a password to see the calls and sms from the people you Blacklisted. In other words no snoops will find dangerous sms or call history. And snoops wont notice that anything is different since they can access your call log and sms and find only innocent information. Available on Cydia.

ADVLOCK, this app will allow you to put a password on any and every app on your phone, including the main apps the phone comes with (lock phone functions, sms, camera etc..), available on Cydia. Great for locking out snoops completely except for when that special someone demands to see your call log and you are forced to unlock it for her being the spineless jelly fish that you are.....

    iTunes apps:

VIDEO SAFE, this app allows you to transfer videos and pics from your pc to a locked app that requires a password to view certain pics and videos you place inside on your iphone... I discovered this one just a little too late....

  10. I don't think its worth it JUST to get the use of 3g, there is very limited 3g networks in Bangkok and no where outside Bangkok unless I'm mistaken. From what I heard you can only use 3g in certain places like specific malls etc..

  11. I havent used my iphone in Thailand yet but will do next week so have been checking out reviews on it.

A thought I had after reading these comments was that SBSettings (Jailbreak only app, replacement of BossPrefs) allows quick and easy 2 touch toggling of your internet.

So if you are on a limited data/hours package you could switch on 3g/edge only when you want to use it.

This wont work for some cydia apps that leak even through sbsettings.

  12. Actually no I dont have to turn things off and on, If I leave push off I'm all set, until I stupidly install a edge sucking maniac app....

I'm on Ais and 400 baht gets me all the minutes I need, all the sms, mms and 30 hours of edge. You are saying you pay a flat 599 to get unlimited AND decent minutes, sms and mms? If so that IS a pretty good deal, but only for True right? Or did you mean 599 for edge PLUS another 600 for your regular package?

  13. Seems like at least half the posters here have no idea that Thai people all know that the police are regularly extorting money from Thais. Its on the news! How can you all miss it, I was shocked that they can openly report it on the news showing video of police scams and extortion in action. Things are changing for the better I guess if they are able to rub their faces in it on National television. Seems like a lot of you are not connected to the reality that is Thailand at all. Maybe watch some news with a translator handy?

  14. I got as far as:

"So there is a mildly retarded guy who lives with his grandmother (maybe mother) in the house a crossed the street from us in our moo ban.

Someone was kind enough to buy him an electric guitar, microphone and amp. "

Before I hurt myself laughing so hard, I didn't need to read the rest as I had a perfect vision in my head of what you must be listening too, thanks for the best laugh I've had in over a year. Oh... sorry for your trouble..

  15. Nikster: I thought I was very clear, I already assumed it was a cydia app that was leaking and I did uninstall them until I found the one that was doing it. I guess it seemed unclear since I assume everyone is jailbroken and using cydia apps. I'm surprised to find out this is not true. All the other settings you mentioned are useless if you have an app like that on your phone. Not only the settings you mentioned, but actual apps that are meant to shut down edge (sbsettings) do not work. Its not all cydia apps, its just one out of many because I've used cydia apps for 2 years but only got this problem twice temporarily when I installed something that relies on a constant internet connection.

Yes wifi turns off when the phone sleeps, so if you've got a cydia app on your phone that constantly checks internet it resorts to edge.

I'd like to say it again, cydia apps are not bad, some of them I couldn't live without (like being able to reply to an incoming sms WITHOUT having to exit the program I'm in and then reopen it and start over after sending the message). But a few cydia apps I guess assume you have an unlimitted plan and leak constantly. Those are the apps I don't want.

Djk: My phone bill is 400 baht per month, why would I want to raise that to over 1000 baht for an unlimitted plan when I dont actually use internet away from home (at least not over the 30 hours included in my 400 baht plan). For 2 years this has been fine except the 2 times I installed an app that requires constant internet from cydia, my mistake. My iphone does 1000 things a normal phone does not, push email is completely useless to me and unneeded and not a feature of the iphone I value, I'm sure there are many uses I have found that would be useless to you, none of which require an unlimitted plan.

  16. I already said you had to update to 3.0 to get thai fonts. Anyway, do not go and try to update to official 3.0 THEN unlock/jailbreak, either google and learn how to do it (it is easy but YOU MUST FOLLOW THE STEPS EXACTLY) or pay a guy at MBK to do it. Do not update and then try to do it, updating is part of the process and you need to do it the right way or it wont work.

  17. Settings: General: International: Language: and then pick from a full list for just about any language in the world. This is for phone language (that you see while moving around your phone)

    For keyboards I go to:

Settings: General: Keyboard: International Keyboards: pick from a huge list

PATTAYAPARENT, ya the problem is your old out of date firmware, why are you still at 1.1.4? THAI was added in 3.0, you need to update to 3.0

  18. Yes its the 3.0 firmware, just look at the other threads right next to this one to find some fixes.....

Ais is not trying to screw you, however APPLE set it up so phone companies have as much chance as possible to milk you. The iphone is supposed to be used as a device that is constantly connected to the internet, they made it so if a company wants they can make it impossible for you to completely stop edge usage. For instance if you go into settings and try to change the apn (which would normally disconnect you from internet) you cannot as AIS uses auto settings that you cannot change in your iphone. Everyone is turning to unlimitted plans which is more money than people wanted to spend on their phone but they feel there is no alternative, this makes AIS lots of money, thanks to the way the iphone is setup. This is all deliberate by apple and AIS. There is a way without paying for unlimitted plans, but it requires you tracking down which apps are leaking and uninstalling them and making sure all your push settings are set up correctly. I pay 400 baht a month for my phone bill, and I do use internet sometimes when away from my wifi. If I install a new app I need to watch my edge usage closely to make sure its not a leaking app.

  19. There is an app in cydia called boss preferences where edge can be turned off.

I just got an unlimited data plan from true though, 599 baht per month.

Yeah I know all about that, I said earlier that they do not work for this particular problem, the problem of the background edge data leak that certain apps employ. With sb settings set to disable edge I still got charged for 40 hours I did not use. The only answer is to uninstall the offending app or have Ais completely disable edge on your phone permanently.

"Sbsettings or boss prefs of course do not work too for this "background" hidden edge leakage. Firewall apps also do not block this background edge use. This stuff is pure evil. s-3.gif"

  20. I just posted a thread about apps that secretly use edge. Some apps are checking the net even if you never use them.

Data roaming does not turn off edge, you didn't realise this op. Sbsettings works for the majority of the time but there are some apps that will not be stopped by that. ALSO, even if you mostly use wifi, when your iphone goes to sleep wifi turns off automatically, and it reverts to edge. So if you have an app that checks internet without you knowing it will use edge instead all night.

  21. Recently I once again got a problem with a lot of unwanted edge use on my iphone. My phone bill jumped up an extra 1600 baht ($60) before I got it to stop. In case anyone else gets this problem I'm posting how I fixed it. This is the second time this happened to me.

It's simply an app. Some app you install starts constantly connecting with the internet. If your iphone goes to sleep this automatically turns off wifi so while you sleep for 8 hours... your iphone is connecting to the internet through edge for 8 hours. I systematically started uninstalling apps and finally the edge use stopped. I had so many apps I didn't find out which one does it but this is the second time I've installed some evil app that does this so it's probably a bunch that can do it. I have a sneaking suspicion it is some cydia apps only but I'm not totally sure about that. The last things I uninstalled were a bunch of Cydia apps so.... If it really is only cydia apps then I guess only jailbroken iPhone owners need worry.

If you are wondering why I didn't just change my apn settings or some fix similar to that to stop all edge use it is because I could not, in Thailand using certain carriers (Ais and maybe True?) they have auto settings so changing your settings on your phone does nothing as they are ignored. Sbsettings or boss prefs of course do not work too for this "background" hidden edge leakage. Firewall apps also do not block this background edge use. This stuff is pure evil. s-3.gif

As soon as I uninstalled a certain unidentified app it all stopped. So if you have this problem start uninstalling, starting with cydia apps.

The only way to catch this problem in time is to check your usage regularly after installing new apps. Your carrier should have a small number to dial to get a screen on your iphone telling you your current usage.
