  1. Just do a quick search for Kessaya motorbike rentals on google it's run by a Brit named Mark. Good bikes great price and he will deliver for you. Top notch guy.

Thanks, but I already called him and he is booked solid thru the New Years. Thanks

pm me if you are still looking and let me know what month as I have a friend with a coffee shop who has a xoomer and fino for rent I believe.. also what price range?

  2. Yes Savannakhet is a good option. But you will need to get there early and cross over if you want to do it in a day. Otherwise spend the night.

If you are coming from Pattaya or Rayong there is yellow bus that does overnight. However I would try and get a VIP if I could from Bkok that gets in early.

If you fly you could just grab a Thai bus probably a few hours. You could for instance fly to YUdon Thani or Khon Kaen then it is about 3 hours minivan or 4 hour bus to Mukdahan at the border.

  3. I agree with him. Airstrikes are not enough to beat IS.

These days we see significant shift in the Obama's policy, it's clear what will(have to) follow.

Saddam Hussein was a tyrant, but he performed the useful function of suppressing religious fanaticism. Bush and Blair failed to appreciate this so didn't have a correct exit strategy, without one intervention was a mistake. Now we have let the evil of Jihad out of its box, we will have to fight it wherever it appears. A few air strikes won't stop ethnic cleansing or genocide. Non intervention would simply compound the mistake of the original intervention.

Yes Saddam ruled with an iron fist but probably a softer one than is used in Saudi Arabia and other "pro western" states. Question is this Saddam's nature or did he quickly realize the only way to keep a disunited country together is with an iron fist then develop this style? Probably a bit of both. It is so ridiculous that a country such as American that has countless states does not employ the same philosophy when it conquered Iraq. Perhaps they felt Iraq did not deserve democracy?

  4. Hotter than Thailand. I doubt it but likely similar. Chiang Mai may be cool in the winter but it is very hot in the summer. Bangkok has been named the hottest city in the world by the World Meteorological Society.

It is not surprising that minus the winter weather the further south is actually cooler. I have been to Phuke and I consider it less hot than northern Thailand. You get more cloud and more rain throughout the year as you go further south.

  5. Who needs these white elephants when a missile at a fraction of the cost can knock them out. Anyone with brains would be building an automated missile and drone dominated armed force that can be mechanized at a fraction of the cost. Tanks, destroyers and carriers are all dead weight with new technology.

  6. A mass exodus of dodgy so called tourists would not break my heart. Thailand already has far too many tourists (foreigners) causing various problems for the locals.

I keep reading about this utterly nonsensical 'Well, if they don't have the correct visa, they must be a bad'un'. the piece of shit farang I am presently pursuing through the courts is on a perfectly legit long term 'O' visa. Those farang 'who cause problems for the locals', ('problems' as yet unspecified on this forum, BTW), never have to bother with visas or visa runs w00t.gif . You really ought to get out more. huh.png

Just talked to a Norwegian oil worker who is in and out on 30 day visas. He went for the 30 day extension and they gave him a lot of hassle but reluctantly stamped him again. Not the type of spending expant you want to chase away but I guess they know better lol. He is considering other options.

  7. I'm at a loss as to how Russian President Vladimir Putin can compare the siege of Leningrad by Nazi Germany to what is happening now in Eastern Ukraine.

The sovereign state of Ukraine has an internal problem whereby some of its citizens in the eastern part of the country are violently advocating independence. This is an internal affair and must be solved by the Ukrainian government.

Russian interference in the affairs the sovereign state of Ukraine with the takeover of Crimea is comparable to the actions of Nazi Germany annexation of Czechoslovakia in 1938.

It seems that the western world is making the same mistakes again... looking on and allowing Russian aggression against the sovereign state of Ukraine.

I think this comparison to the sieges has about as much validity as comparing Putin's action to those of Hitler. Both sides are full of b.s. with suckers caught in the middle. Don't believe any of the b.s. do your own research and stop being manipulated.

  8. A good friend works for Diageo putting together launch events in bars, discos and hotels around and about. I guess she will be NOT be out of a job then.

Tax the stuff by alchohol content and this whole discussion becomes moot. Whisky would become too expensive and everyone would drink beer and wine. Problem solved.

How would this solve a problem of too much alcohol consumption? So the poor could now buy 12 bottles of more expensive beer instead of a cheap bottle of Thai whiskey to chase a high? You don't think it happens just look at alcoholic farangs consuming beer 12 or 18 bottles in a night. The only way to lessen alcohol consumption is through education and restricted supply. Nothing else has worked anywhere.

Thailand has a serious alcholism problem and if it means restricting supply to help solve it I will gladly go out earlier and put up with some of these barriers.

  9. What happened to this hospital ? I paid 100 baht service fee to see a doctor right after they opened. Total price was 350 baht. This is a government hospital , they cant charge farang 5 times more , can they ?

Sure they can just look for the boss in the new Benz headed off to the 4000 baht soapie in Naklua.

  10. I went to that hospital to get my ears attended too. Had a wax build up, just needed some drops and was hoping to come back and get them syringed. This was daytime, I filled out all the forms and went to the counter only to be be told No Hab Doctor Ear. You go Memorial Hospital. I went to my clinic instead and for 500 baht he gave me drops and told me to come back in 3 days. Syringed both ears and no further charge. (He was not a specialist either)

You guys are getting so ripped off. I went to the drugstore in Big C and asked for antibiotic ear drops. She presented a bottle for something like 400 baht. I was persistent and said no I want Thai generic. She pulled out a bottle the same size and ingredient for 40 baht. lol

  11. http://www.seattlepi.com/technology/businessinsider/article/Here-s-A-Breakdown-Of-The-Military-Style-Gear-5689948.php

The U.S. is increasingly becoming a militarized police state. The NSA, Homeland Security, FBI, CIA, ATF, half billion dollars in war equipment to militarize local police against their own people. Anyone who thinks the U.S. is still the great land of liberty and freedom it once was 30 years ago or more is delusional or just plain stupid. Protestors ramsacking and plundering Missouri businesses is plain wrong but understandable given the increased number of police shootings and further reinforced by trained snipers lining up unarmed protestors in their sights.
