  1. I took the tollway from Pattaya towards the airport yesterday enroute north. One thing I noticed is that a lot of people are going to need to adjust their thinking about things like food and fuel, and another is that businesses along the southern part of the route are sure to start failing in droves.

For example, when you enter the motorway now, the first fuel without exiting is the 48km service plaza. No more exiting just after Laem Chabang and re-entering easily. In fact, after that 7-11 on the northbound side on the frontage road, there were massive backups at the next two traffic lights spanning about 10 km. Also, there is no where to re-enter for more than 20 km if you do exit there.

Of course, that also led to the 48km plaza being backed up onto the roadway it was so busy.

They have already pulled the booths from the 68km pay area, and hopefully will rip all of that down now to expedite passage thru instead of having to slow to pass thru the unused plaza.

  2. I also have a Surface 3, and find it above average for my use. The best thing is the small size and weight. It does slow down when I have a lot open, as would be expected.

Someone has already mentioned LibreOffice as an excellent free replacement. I also use Bluestacks as an.Android Emulator, which will allow you to use all your favorite programs inside the Windows computer.

So I guess from the replies that I continue to enter on a tourist visa every time as I am not retired, merely visiting albeit regularly-that's 106 stamps, 53 entry/53exit in the last 2 years alone, will need to replace my passport soon due to this :(

Sent from my iPhone using Thaivisa Connect

Unfortunately, spending the money for a visa will not eliminate the stamps. In fact, the visa itself will take a full page that you could get 3 entries on.

  4. People need to realize that, in most cases, they have made the decision before you ever get in the room. They do review the paperwork. That is why you submit it in advance. They don't just grab your file, look at it for the first time, and decide to deny it.

Having also been a victim of the jerkoffs at the embassy, I have to agree that someone who meets the criteria for the visa (job, education, money, home, etc) should never mention that they have ever even met an American, much less are in a relationship with one. The only possible exception would be if the American were living and working in Thailand, and then you had better include substantial documentation of that fact.

I work offshore, and even though I had been living in Thailand for years, and had a Non-O, they declined my wife a tourist visa, saying I did not have strong enough ties to Thailand. Real pieces of work in there. Easy to understand why they have to work behind bullet-proof glass!

  5. Several years ago, I had US and Thai accounts. Sent money from.one to the other. Within micro-seconds the transaction was reversed. Reason.was suspected fraud.

    Didn't mind that so much.

However, in those micro-seconds, they converted the money from USD to THB and back at their rates. What came back to me was over 100 USD lighter than What I sent.

Tried like hell to.get my money back. PayPal is not a bank and virtually unregulated in.Singapore. They can, and will, <deleted> you.over with no recourse.

When it was said and done, they claimed I.violated the TOS and made me close one of the 2 accounts. Closed both. <deleted> em.

Makes no sense?...the boycott of Qatar, obviously had strings pulled behind the screens from the USA, for a good or bad reason....

The point here is it is surprising that Qatar can still fly to the US?...if not,  why would it start this ridiculous computer ban?

Wow. The lengths people will go to on this board to blame the US are amazing. Maybe you should read up on this situation a bit before making comments such as that. The US has a massive Air Base in Qatar. Their operations in the region would be severely hampered were the Qatari's to boot them out.

The boycott is nothing more that internal Islamic politics. The Qatari's have aligned themselves with Iran, the arch-enemy of the Saudi's and the other Sunni-dominated countries. A tweet purported to be from the Emir of Qatar, and reported on by Al-Jazeera brought this to a head. That explains why the closure of Al Jazeera (Qatar State TV) is one of the demands of the Sunni's.

As for the laptop ban, it has been in effect for sometime now. It includes 10 airports, and targets Emirates, Etihad, and Turkish in addition to Qatar. Originally, my personal belief was that it was a back-door sanction on those airlines to appease the US airlines complaining about Government subsidy of those airlines allowing them to offer lower prices that non-subsidized airlines. Business travelers who want or need their laptops in flight would chose European or American carriers rather than those included in the ban. Effective? Who knows?

However, 3 days ago they announced that they are adding new rules to 180 airlines flying out of 280 airports. So, maybe the reasoning really is security as they claim, and not economic as I believe.

They dug up the whole length of south Pattaya road to lay the leaky water main in 2006

    it was never resurfaced properly

    Deleted the photos for space....

Absolutely correct about that. In fact, in 2008 there was a hole in front of Tukcom from the pathetic repair work that swallowed my motorbike, tossed me over the bars and left me with a broken leg. 4 days in Pattaya Intl, and over 100K later, i left the hospital unable to bear weight on the leg for 4 months. Feel the discomfort of their incompetence every single day.

This incident is no different. They have patched it up multiple times and it always returns. Little further up at Soi Regionland, it is so bad that the underground cabling is actually exposed under the road joint.

Thanks everyone, wow that would really suck if she has to re-apply again just because of the name change. But I'll get it sorted. About what SaintLouisBlues said..

Won't she have problems coming back to Thailand at Thai customs when they see there is no entry stamp to another country on her Thai passport?

There are many countries now that do not even bother stamping you in or out anyway. In the vicinity, HKG immediately springs to mind. They give you a little slip of paper now. No stamp.

  9. You are setting yourself up for failure if she makes any mention of you at all. She should simply apply as a Thai who wants to go to the USA for tourism. As someone above said, any inclination that she is in a relationship will automatically make them think she is going to stay.

In order to get the visa, she needs to show overwhelming evidence that she will return. Business records, assets, child, etc are all valid reasons, which when taken together might be enough for the visa. When she goes to the interview, make sure that she has a clear understanding of where she intends to go and what she intends to do there. I am going to hang out with my American BF is not the correct response to that question.

Good luck to you. I personally would give you a 50/50 chance. I personally was denied for my legally married wife despite overwhelming evidence of my connection to Thailand. Same with many other friends I know personally. I also know some Thai women with no connection to American men in similar situations to your GF that got visa's not problem.

Conclusion: buy your luxury car at full price. I prefer to buy a sport car from an official dealer, even if the price is painful. You never know, one day the authorities might come after you, even many years later. I personally prefer to sleep well at night :)

This is Thailand. Just because you bought it from a dealer does not mean that he obtained it legally. I believe there was a famous actor somewhere at the beginning of this scandal that claimed exactly that.

  11. At KL airport, the security is at the individual boarding gates. So, there is not really a dedicated arrivals and departures floor. If you checked in online, theoretically you could get off the one flight and simply walk to the next gate and go back in. No reason to go thru immigration and customs at all. Very unlikely that Thai immigration is going to be looking for the Malaysia stamp in your passport. You are arriving on an international flight, so as far as they know, or would be concerned about, you came from some other country.

  12. I used to have 2. One to an American bank and the other to a Thai Bank.

On the last occasion I used it, i transferred about 3k from the US bank to the Thai bank. Transfer completed and money in the Thai account.

8 seconds later, the transaction was reversed due to suspicious activity. However, when the money came back to my US account, it was now 2900 bucks. The bastards stole 100 USD in exchange rate BS between converting the USD to THB on the front end, and then reconverting it back to USD when they reversed the transaction.

Complained like hell to Paypal in Singapore, but all they did was point out that the TOS prohibited me from having more than one account. Not used them since, and never will again.

  13. I have seen this one many times in Walking street. Had he not chosen the Ladyboy route, he could have been a Linebacker for an american football team, or a professional rugby player. Nothing feminine about him. Just a very large man with long hair and some bolt on boobs!
