  1. I am 79, married to a Thai wife, retired with Non Immigrant O visa and 800,000 THB blocked in SCB Bank which is verified by the local Immigration Officer.

From time to time we transfer money to Thailand to cover our living expenses here.

Now the tax authorities of my own country (EU member state) want me for the year 2020 to obtain a "no income declaration" (otherwise declare any income made in Thailand).

Some people say I need to apply for a TIN (Taxpayer Identification Number) but I had never any contact with the local Tax Authorities :  they have no data about me.

I never made any money in Thailand : I am too old to work and as a retiree I would not obtain a work permit.

Did any of the Forum members have to face a similar situation and how did it work out for them?

I am considering how to reduce my well water from 150 PPM (TDS) to under 50. I was hoping to avoid Reverse Osmosis by getting a whole house Carbon Filter only. Does this sound like a good idea?

When I lived in India 40 years ago we had to pass the tap water through an old fashioned water filter (a stone cylinder) and we still had to boil the outcoming water but we had no health problems during the 4 years I lived there / if I could find this old fashioned filter I would certainly use it again rather than drinking the RO water I am buying now.

  3. I do not know how many years I suffered from "stuffed" or infected sinuses until I realized that I had in fact allergic rhinitis and the cause was too much use of Otrivin nose drops to which I had become addicted, until 5 years ago an ENT doctor recommended a corticortiroid nosespray ( Mometasone) and since then I have no more problems.

Soon to hate the cold and damp? I know a guy from the UK that has told me a number of times he isn't coming back. So far he always has. Now he says he won't be going back to the UK. Time will tell.

Yes but OP is 88 and at that age health care should also be a factor / one of my British friends who is 84 came back after a stay of 3 years in the UK but now he had a stroke and the health care in Hua Hin private hospitals costs him a fortune...

Royal Thai Police yesterday arrested a Nigerian man and 13 Thais for operating a covert romance scam. The scam operation managed to deceive hundreds of victims across Thailand out of over 800 million baht in the past four years.

The Commissioner of the Crime Suppression Division (CSD), Montri Tatekhan, revealed the arrest details to the public today. Montri explained that the victims filed a complaint against a romance scam gang at the beginning of 2022.

The victims revealed to officers that the scammers used profiles of attractive foreign women to approach them on social media. The scammers informed them that they were American soldiers performing duties in Syria. After gaining the trust of the victims, they would express their desire to come to Thailand to see the victims. However, before their journeys, they would inform the victim that they sent gifts or some parcels into Bangkok via the airports. Then, they would lure the victims into paying taxes or other relevant expenses for them in advance and they would return it when they met each other.

A group of Thai scammers then contacted the victims pretending to be airport authorities and demanded money for the alleged parcel-receiving process. After getting the amount they wanted, the scammer would disappear and block all the contact channels with the victims.

The police conducted a further investigation until they managed to identify the gang leader, 45 year old Ezeneche Uzochukwu Jerome. Jerome had been previously charged with a love scam in 2018 but managed to re-engage in the illicit operation.

I watched one of Dr. Rhonda Patrick's videos on Omega 3 a while back.

As I recall, she recommended 4000 mg (4 grams) of Omega 3 daily.

The cost alone of taking that amount of Omega 3 supplements is exorbitant.

And I just felt there was something off about having to take so much Omega 3 supplementation, so I quit after only 1 week.

If don't trust this doctor's recommendations, not sure who I can trust on how much Omega 3 I should actually be consuming.

I import top quality Omega 3 from the USA : I take daily one capsule 1280 mg Omega 3 (with 650 mg of DHA and 450 mg of EPA) in the triglyceride form which has much higher bioavailability then the cheaper ester form. Cost price : 2200 Baht for 120 capsules.  Next to this I eat also twice a week one can of Ayam sardines in virgin olive oil (59 Baht per can). I don't think I should increase except if my Omega 3 Index is below 8 %

  7. I have seen the very intersting discussion about Omega 3 fatty acids between Dr Bill Harris and Dr Ronda Patrick (503) Dr. Bill Harris on the Omega-3 Index: Increasing Omega-3 to Promote Longevity & Transform Health - YouTube

It is obvious that intake of omega 3 fatty acids is beneficial for the general health and particularly for the cardiovascular condition.

A study published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology found that Japanese men had an average omega-3 index of 11.3%, while American men had an average omega-3 index of 5.5% and it seems that the Japanese men - smoking and drinking -  have less heart problems than American men who have the same bad habits.

My cardiologist does not react when I ask if he can check my Omega 3 Index and the reason could be that his hospital cannot do this test.

Can Forum members inform  if they have experience in this matter and eventually inform which hospital can check the Omega 3 Index?

  8. My 62 year old Thai wife suffers more and more from cervical spondylosis (arthritis of the neck)

The neurologist she consults rejects trying medical cannabis and continues to prescribe the usual medication.

Does somebody have a good experience with medical cannabis which does not get you "high" and preferably can be taken by mouth?

Eventually where to buy it and which brand name?

Why do you guys even bother? A Tuesday post begging for help and claiming Lazada can sell the same new phone for 30% less. Now Thursday and no hide nor hair of the OP. Typical online keyboard genius ????????????

I don't understand what you mean  :  Forum members warned me to do my homework before buying a cheap version of the Samsung AZ54. After doing so I went to a Samsung shop and let them do the transfer of the data from the old phone. Should I have reported this to the Forum?

  10. I have a 10 year old Samsung smartphone and I plan to buy Samsung Galaxy A54  5G 8/256

On the old Samsung I have 25 Gb (mostly photos) internal data : how can I transfer them to the new Samsung?

If no Forum member can help me then of course I can go to a shop but surprisingly the cost of Samsung Galaxy A54  5G 8/256 is nearly 15.000 Baht

So I try to buy online from Lazada where the Samsung flagship store charges 13,390 THB and private seller even incredibly lower i.e. 9,373 THB

  11. Thanks to TallGuyJohninBBK and to Connda

I lived and worked in China about 20 years ago and so I know there are manufacturers of excellent products and fake products which means we must verify what we buy.

Probably the most expensive food supplement is NMN and it is for 90% or more manufactured by Effepharm Shanghai (repacked and resold under other brand names mostly in the USA and UK) : this is an excellent product.

However about my question related to Glycerine with a certificate FCC IV my doubt was right and I copy hereunder the reply I got from a manufacturer in China : I need to by Pharmaceutical Grade and not FCCIV grade

    QUOTE

    Dear Ferdinand,
    Good day to you.
Got your email forwarded by my colleague and checked with factory, the Glycine food grade is used in the food industry(mainly in seasoning application), and could meet FCC IV grade.
While If put it in food supplement, they need to use Glycine Pharmaceticual grade.
    Regards,

  12. I have searched many online sources.

From one supplier I bought what I supposed to be a Thai product but I got once more glycine made in China (a quality certificate was added but it was based on the international Food Chemicals Codex of 1999 i.e. FCCIV)

Does any Forum member know where to buy glycine suitable as food supplement for humans?

I tend to agree and I think it goes further than that.  An ex who was not from Bangkok but lived and worked there, knew how to get to work and back, where to buy food and very little else in relation to the geography of the city she'd chosen to live in.  Regionally, she argued with me about Burma, denying it had any coastline.  I had to show her a map to prove it.

I think it was Napoleon who said that "history" are the lies on which everybody agrees (look how history is created during the Donald Trump period)
