  1. Can someone who has upgraded to a larger tank speak to the fuel meter's accuracy after the swap? Does it accurately report the fuel level in the larger tank? There are some very nice looking ones on Shopee and after watching installation videos, it looks like the old hardware is re-used - the pump/filter and bottom sensor. I don't see anyone modifying/replacing the sensor, nor comment on the fuel gauge.

As soon as you change even the color on a bike you need to register the changes and if the bike is over 6 years you have to do yearly inspections... good luck with those...

Street legal falang and modified don't go well in the same sentence in Thailand.

    Good luck

Wow, that was over 10 years ago.

Your statement is not completely correct. You do have to change the color in the book if it doesn't match the bike, but takes 10 minutes and costs 20 baht, so not a big deal. I have done it many times over the years. Also, all bikes need to have an inspection every 5 years, not yearly inspections after the 6 year mark. The inspections are not difficult as long as the color matches and there are not non-standard lights (like the popular blue) on the front, but the most difficult now is the exhaust sound limit. Even then, there are exceptions. The DLT inspectors have passed one of my bikes after the second inspection in 2 days, as they noted in the inspection report that an effort was made to reduce the sound levels although they were still above legal limit.

I have had many modified bikes over the years, and I have had many legal and highly illegal bikes over the years. As long as you know the rules it is not very difficult to have  custom bike to your tastes.

  3. Time to put her back together.

Cleaned the oil screen, then popped the engine back on. Dropped the damn engine and frame on my hands twice! Hurts like a son of a bitch.

I am now lost when it comes to the wiring. I bought a brand new wiring loom as the old wires were original and had many failures.

This was at 1:30 this morning after I gave up. Now, I have the wiring diagrams with proper color coding and will try to tackle the wiring again tonight.

Cool project, be interesting to see how it turns out. This one is brilliantly done.

This is Thaiwi's bike from the original thread on this forum 4 years ago. I love this look, and it is what inspired me to go for a custom Cub.

  5. I picked up mine from Gourmet Market in the EmQuartier, but you can also pick them up at any Gourmet Market. Took all of 5 minutes for her to check my documents and print 4 tickets. Also, these purchased by a friend, so I had to show a power of attorney signed by the purchaser and the receipt, no problems.

  6. Day 3

Stuck inside with the rain, so trying to mock up my rear wheels. I bought a 3.50x17 rear wheel and plan to put a 130 rear tire on. I widened out the end of the fender and judging by my measurements, I should be able to fit the 130 tire on without and further modifications to that, the shock mounts, or the swing arm. I am a bit concerned with the amount of clearance at the lower fender near the swing arm pivot. I can widen that out but will mock it up with the actual wheel and tire first. I shouldn't need to modify the front end, as I do not want a fat tire. Probably a 100 or 110.

Had to apply a rust inhibitor and then body filler under the fender. The inner skin was a bit rusted, but the outer skin was in great condition, very little rust.1217551565_2018-07-0820_36_16.thumb.jpg.9440168acb5b98d3089732c89ac40d38.jpg

  7. Day 2

Got the frame and parts sanded and ready for paint. It has rained every day in Bangkok for me, so this has caused a serious delay. I had hoped to have this project done in a week, but I have now lost a couple of days waiting for it to dry up so that I can paint. I was able to paint some of the bits and pieces on the bike, and fill and prime the frame. I hope tonight to start painting the frame with final color.

Like Christmas in July! New parts! I love it. Forgot to order new spokes for me wheels, and undecided on whether to reuse the old front wheel. But at least no more fur on the plastic covers!823790582_2018-07-0813_26_59.thumb.jpg.e2b5d494db5a71824bee0136b6d6a438.jpg

Will replace the exhaust, but for now, that rust is nothing a bit of sparks and elbow grease and paint can't fix.185869314_2018-07-0712_12_48.thumb.jpg.fbd4d9db09a627c872c1b22ed11e880e.jpg

  8. I saw Thaiwi's thread here on his Honda Super Cub purchase and loved the thread. As that thread is now about 4 years old, I thought I would start a new thread for any one interested in my own project with a Super Cub. I have not been able to get in touch with Thaiwi for any updates, and so I have had to source all new suppliers. I will update here on shop locations or Facebook/websites if anyone is interested.

I plan to do all the work myself if possible. Also, this will not be a show bike, so I don't expect perfection. I am fair with body work and paint, so will also give the first go myself. If not acceptable, I will take it in to a shop for a spray. I have no definite plans to upgrade the motor. Easy to drop a Wave 100 or 125cc motor in and change it in the green book, but will ride it for a few weeks after completion before I decide.

I purchased this 1982 C70 last week in Bangkok with proper green book. Front brakes do not work. Motor starts great on the first kick, but there is a hesitation with spirited throttle in any gear, so most likely a fueling issue. It has the carb from a Wave 100 on it, so if I can't easily clean out the carb and tune it to fix the stutter, I will buy a new carb for the C70.

Took it home and in 5 hours had it stripped down to the frame. I left the motor in for now, but will pull it for an overhaul and paint. Here are pictures of day one:

Love that green fur on the side covers, it was also on the knee shield as well. No accounting for taste.Original condition just home

A bit rusty, but running. Notice the frame number has been moved by the Dept. of Land Transport to the steering stem, and updated in the green book.148408398_2018-07-0422_35_39.thumb.jpg.225e6fd5902a222958e041d715765419.jpg

  9. I also did the crossing at Poipet. Just the green book is needed. The document they give you on the Thai side is an export document - saying you are exporting your Thai bike out of Thailand. Don't lose that! Coming back, the Thai customs takes it back as you are importing your bike back into Thailand. It is a wash.

As for driving, headlights weren't an issue, we drove 3 days with headlights on at all times, no issues. As I always do at police stops here in Thailand, we did ride through a police stop in Cambodia between Poipet and Siam Reap and we just ignored the cops and drove through. As here in Thailand, if you act important, they treat you that way. No one looked at us twice driving through the stop.

Watch the roads, they are bad. And you will be amazed at how relieved you will feel driving back into Thailand. The driving here is much easier and you will appreciate the unspoken driving rules followed here. It is a bit of madness in Cambodia. Worse still in Vietnam. Just drive defensively. No one gives you the right of way, you just have to maneuver through everything as if they are all out to get you.

Good luck. It was a great little trip and I will definitely do it again.

  10. Saw a few old threads, but nothing lately. I would love to meet up with anyone, big bike or scooter, to do some rounds at a track on the weekends. Thailand Circuit is close to me, but I can head to Bira as well. Chang International might be a bit far, unless we make a weekend out of it.

I have been riding a few years but never been on a track, so beginners or pros are welcome.

    Cheers!

  11. Hey guys and gals, long time since I have posted!

I have an imported Australian 2006 Suzuki GSXR1000 K6 that I have only one key for, and I would like to make a copy before I lose this little sucker (key, not GF) down a sewer! I have contacted both Suzuki Thailand in Bangkok and Suzuki Australia. Transponder, or "chipped" keys are not used on Thai model Suzuki motorcycles, so they can't help me. No word from Australia.

My understanding is that even if I can find a blank key with a transponder chip in it, I would have to take it to a dealer for them to program it specifically for my bike. So my dilemma is that I can't get a copy made in Thailand, right?!?

Anyone else run into this problem with imported bikes? What can I do???

    Cheers all!

    John

BTW, I do NOT have the little metal tag that comes with a code on it when you buy the bike.

  12. I bought one last year when both my motorcycle and truck battery kept dying. Not exactly that model, but looks and functions similar. Works great. I can jump my 3.0 liter Isuzu Dmax with it several times without having to recharge the unit. Also, it jumps my VFR many times before running down. Took it camping and used the light on it for 4 hours without it dying. Great little unit.

  13. Cross = X-cross.

    Different year, different cosmetics.

    X-plore has 17" 'motard' wheels.

These bikes come with colored plastic panels.

    Not painted really.

I can't see where it states they are different years. Which one is newer?

X-cross is the newer version of the Cross. X-plore is the motard version of the x-cross.

Perfect! Exactly what I wanted to know. I will assume no major differences, like gear box, engine, etc.

  14. center stand for a sport bike is not a good idea due to ground clearance and weight issues.

but it is handy for touring and adv bikes of course.

Well I am a daredevil, I just use a piece of wood to prop up the right hand side and lift the wheel off the ground in conjunction with the sidestand. I have a single sided swingarm, so this works mostly. I know they sell a small metal extendable rod that does the same, I think called a Bike Bandit somewhere but I have never bothered.

  15. Anyone know the difference between the Lifan Cross and X-Cross? All I can see is that the can is on the opposite side and all engine/frame parts are painted flat black. The fairings are a bit different also. And difference in specs/motor/shocks? I asked at a dealer for the X-Cross and he showed me the normal Cross and didn't really know about the X. This link shows both bikes, the X is the small photo below the main photo. I notice the offer 4 colors, and the White is the X-Cross, so maybe the White comes painted? I like the look of the black painted bike.

    http://www.p-bike.net/LIFAN/CROSS.html

  16. Yeah, we will be flying out in a week. I will try it and report back on my success or lack thereof of trying to get 2 tall white-as-white foreigners through the line. I ask because last week when we arrived at the airport, there were 5 or 6 people ahead of me in the Thai line, and they were kicked out because they were not Thai. So I will just give it a go and let you all know.

  17. This bike cant be made road legal - greenbook - so i would consider something else if riding ANY distance on the road. What about those "Pit " bikes that are plated.

Yeah I saw those but they seem soooo small. Smaller than the KSR even. I don't think I would like that. I am not overly worried about the plate. I probably would only be riding it out of Bangkok mostly, just to get to some trails. I could throw it in the back of my truck, but I just like riding and very seldom even see police check points anymore on my normal routes through Bangkok.

  18. Thanks for the feedback. I know it is like gambling, I have had many vehicles, new and used, and even good brands have bad apples. I had a BMW car that had loads of problems. I just am looking for anyone with first hand experience or knowledge of this particular bike.

  19. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.551047645023860.1073741924.111903165604979&type=1

I have never owned an off-road bike, but have rented a CRF250 in Chiang Mai. I see this shop in Bangkok selling many different Chinese bikes over the past couple of year. They must do well, because they always have new products.

This is a new bike I think. Looks to be decent quality. I have seen 1 ridden by an American guy around Asoke. I am looking to by a cheap off-roader to ride mostly in Bangkok, but occasionally off road. I am by no means an advanced rider, so will not be jumping the bike or going for multi-day jungle trips. I won't be climbing steep mountain goat tracks. I would never be more than an hours walk to a road if there was a break down, and never out of cell phone service. So ultra reliability is not important for me. Just some easy trail riding.

I was previously looking at a Lifan LF200GY, and have read through the thread on this site. But for 20,000 baht less, and a smaller more nimble bike that the GF could ride herself (she is only 38 kg), this may be better for my needs. I don't care to buy a Kawasaki or Honda or KTM or any other expensive bike, new or used, so any suggestions or comparisons to those bikes will not be useful to me. I just want a toy to play with, and don't mind doing my own repairs and maintenance, and it wouldn't be the end of the world if the motorcycle was a total loss in 2 years. I also am not overly concerned that this bike will not have a green book or plates.

So does anyone have any experience with this bike? It is only 29,999 baht, and this shop usually throws in a helmet with the purchase.

  20. So my friend said that she was told by Immigration officers at Swampy that a small group of travelers (no more than 4) travelling together may all go to the Immigration line for Thai Passport holders if at least 1 person has a Thai passport. She and her companion, who was not a Thai, were waved over to the Thai line and processed that way.

Does anyone have any experience with this? I frequently travel with 2 business associates who don't have Thai passports (I do) and this would be great, as last week I was through in less than 1 minute and then had to wait nearly an hour for them to be processed.

If no one knows for sure, I may try calling Immigration at the airport, but this method seldom gleans good information.
