  1. I don't get it, how is the footpath full? There is enough room for 30 bikes there between the trees.

Parking on the footpath is a citeable offense.

The MPB is planning to strictly crack down against motorists for 13 other offences: racing on public roads; excessive speed, unsafe overtaking, drunk driving, travelling the wrong way up, not wearing a crash helmet, double parking, no licence plates, excessive toxic fumes, illegal parking, parking on a footpath, driving along a footpath, and taxi drivers refusing to accept passengers. Traffic offenders will receive a warning ticket for a first-time offence and if they repeat the offence, they will be fined at the maximum rate.

Is it? I didn't know that. I have never heard of anyone being cited for parking on the footpath. Maybe that is for cars and not bikes, as it is legal for bikes to drive on the footpath if the roadway is blocked or there is heavy traffic congestion. You see plenty of bikes parked on the footpath, including police, who park their police and personal bikes on the path next to their police boxes.

  2. I just had some made at Tesco. Almost all Tescos and Big Cs have a place to make keys. They have most brands and blanks, even different colors which makes it easy for me to see what key goes to what bike. And they will remake for free any keys that don't work, which has happened to me in the past, just save your receipt.

  3. I also have serious reservations with Platinum motorcycles, but everybody can improve there act. Still 67,000 THB seems a bit much, my hope is on Shineray that they can get homologation for their Shineray XY250GY-4 motorcycle it only costs 38,000 THB (currently not road legal). I know two persons who have a Platinum, one has a PX125 and the other a PX175 and they seem happy with it, but all the bad things I hear about Platinum cannot be all lies...

The Shineray XY250GY-4 comes with 18" wheels so it should be easy to get regular "supermotard" road tires for it without the need to change the rims... The Shineray XY250GY-4 is powered by a 230cc air-cooled engine presumably made by Zongshen

I talked to a dealer in Bangkok, but shied away from this one. Not possible to get a plate, green book, and she said that that I would not have an invoice of import duties paid. That just screams "confiscate me". I wanted a throw about bike, one I could ride once a month on some trails, no jumps or heavy thrashing. 38000 baht is not alot of money, but I would hate to have it taken by the police. I would probably be riding it in Bangkok to get to the trails, and not always be loading it in my truck to drive it out of the city. So 67000 baht for legal bike is tempting. Crap quality or not, I will keep the PX250 in mind.

  4. I don't get it, how is the footpath full? There is enough room for 30 bikes there between the trees. Also, why did you park that way? You are blocking traffic. The cop was correct, you should have parked up on the footpath, or pulled parallel to the curb so as not to be blocking traffic. The cars maybe were given tickets also. And as for his bike, you don't know why he is riding it plate less Maybe he lost the plate. My friend lost his plate, did the police report, and was told at the DLT that he has to wait 2-3 months for a replacement. In the mean time he has a receipt to show police that he already ordered a replacement.

Sorry buddy, you did something wrong, a policeman did his job by citing you for it and not asking for a bribe. You are just looking for anything he did wrong. Just pay the ticket. You broke the law once, don't do it again by not paying and contributing to the general problem of tickets and bribes. Maybe cops take bribes because most people won't pay if they give them a ticket. You can even do it at the ATM. I believe that if he enters it properly, it should flag your registration when you go to renew. The other poster just got lucky.

  5. Thanks guys. I'll check out that place near Udom Suk BTS.

If you hear of any good second hand bikes for sale, do let me know. I'll keep you posted how i get on finding one.

    Have a great weekend

There are 2 shops there. The one closest to the BTS seemed to be more knowledgeable. I don't know if they speak English, so keep that in mind. I saw road bikes there as low as 4500 baht. They installed everything on the bike as I was shopping, very quick. And they give 10% discount if you ask, but won't go lower.

  6. You can do this. I own a company that does cleaning for large manufacturers, and my preferred contracts are service based- the customers specify what they want and I determine how best to accomplish this. Try the larger cleaning companies like PCS or Rachayok. They both have offices in Chonburi. May be tough to get one based on 1 maid and short working hours, so if you can add more duties or ask your neighbors if they need maid service, they may do it.

  7. Clean it up by pouring it through 3 or 4 layers of pantihose material then add 2 litres at a time when you fill with regular diesel.

Does this do anything useful, other than dispose of the oil? Isn't there contaminants in the oil, picked up from your engine, that can harm the motor or expel more exhaust pollution? I have never heard of doing this before. If this isn't harmful to the engine, what about doing the same thing for a 2 stroke, or do those require a different kind of motor oil? I know nothing about 2 stroke engines.

  8. Why go through the trouble of re-encoding with Handbrake or anything else? It is a waste of time. Get VLC Player on your iPad. Then, open iTunes, click on your iPad, click Apps, scroll down to the bottom of the screen labeled File Sharing and choose VLC in the small window, then just drag any movies you have and drop them on the right side of that window labeled VLC Documents. Now, sync your iPad, and all the movies are there and watchable in any format without any re-encoding. No worries about file format, although my iPad 2 has problems playing back 1080P movies, so 720P or lower works great, no stuttering.

By just dragging your movies into iTunes, it won't play files that aren't Apple approved, which is anything not a .MOV or .MP4 file. So just use VLC and it will play all formats, including mov, mp4, avi, mkv, etc.

  9. Entry is the same off Suksawat but you can choose either dodgy (but never seen a policeman) Bumiphol Bridge sign posted Rama III or don't go over the bridge keep left and wind your way through Phrapadaeng and take the ferry http://goo.gl/maps/N7XQm ,that you don't want for some reason, to Bang Na to get on Bang Na-Trat.

If you take the bridge you have to negotiate Rama lll to get downtown. If you are going west and wish to avoid traffic downtown then take the ferry.

Does the ferry take motorbikes? And is there a ramp, mine is a bit heavy for lifting? That route through that peninsula would be nice, as it is even closer to where I live, and I have driven my truck through there and it is nice and slow paced.

  10. Yes, on a motorbike. Well I decided to just do it. The Bhumibol 2 bridge had small scooters on it, but so few it makes me think that it is not allowed. But, there were NO signs saying no motorbikes, so it must be legal. And there were no police stands on either side, so I wouldn't be concerned about paying the Brown Tolls. I also went on another bridge there together, but forgot the name. Both had bikes, but total I only saw less than 10 bikes on both bridges, and I went across and back. I did have to U-turn at one point, as it was turning into a toll road, the

So, that is solved. It is a shortcut from Phra Khanong/On Nut down to Cha Am/Hua Hin, which I plan on doing that ride or Phuket soon. I also go to my property in Kanchanaburi a couple of times a month, and this is just another way to go and see different things. I like to take different paths, and am tired of the Elevated Highway north of Bangkok.

  11. I cannot find a way to cross the river from either side of Samut Prakan. I always get routed up through Bangkok and the Taksin Bridge. There must be a way across by road, not ferry. There are 2 bridges here http://goo.gl/maps/C6tXj but as far as I know they are car only, no bikes. I haven't stopped to ask the locals, but I might do that next time I am down that way.

Anyone know of a way across? I don't want to just ride up there, I would like a legal crossing for bikes. I accidentally got on the Elevated Highway last week on my bike from Victory Monument to Nakon Pathom. It was an honest mistake, I was distracted by the red shirt demonstration going on. As soon as I saw the police in their giant helmet pointing and waving at me, I thought oops and pinned it and made it across in 10 minutes where it normally takes me 20 minutes in my truck.

  12. You can buy plenty of accessories for the Phantom everywhere. Plenty of second hand also. Here is a photo of a buddy of mine on our ride from Bangkok to Angkor Wat. He is a cheap charlie, so he probably bought his leather bags second hand for 500 baht somewhere! Just ask around at the motorbike shops that sell/service Phantoms, they will know. Also, ask the motorbike taxis, they know everything! blink.png As for rust, can you spray clear over chrome? Paint doesn't stick to chrome very well, but maybe if you make it a yearly spray, it will keep the rust away. A can of clear or two should do it, and at 200 baht a can, that is a small price to pay for peace of mind.

Notice the front leather bag also, it was a set with the saddle bags.

  13. It does not have to be copper grease. Any good heavy grease will work. I like synthetic grease, but it can be harder to find. And most modern brake pads are made in a way to reduce the friction and eliminate squealing from the contact with the caliper pistons. I have occassionaly not used grease when changing brake pads, and didn't have any squealing problems, at least not from the brakes. w00t.gif
